·       The Arizona House of Representatives passed SCR 1019 ‘Commending Israel’ with roll vote this afternoon that reveals all House Republicans voted in favor standing with Israel, while the House Dems voted against it.  SCR passed the AZ Senate on March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day) – the same day that Prime Minster Netanyahu was re-elected in Israel.  See SCR text at Arizona-2015-SCR1019-Introduced.html  SCR1019 was introduced by Sen Gail Griffin, with the support of Sens Allen, Barto, Begay, Biggs, Burges, Dial, Driggs, Farnsworth D, Kavanagh, Lesko, Meza, Miranda, S Pierce, hooter, Smith, Ward, Worsley, Yarbrough, and Yee; as well as Reps Pierce, Allen J, Barton, Borrelli, Bowers, Boyer, Brophy McGee, Campbell, Carter, Cobb, Coleman, Fann, Farnsworth E, Finchem, Gowan, Gray, Kern, Lawrence, Leach, Livingston, Lovas, Mesnard, Mitchell, Montenegro, Norgaard, Olson, Petersen, Pierce, Pratt, Rivero, Robson, Shope, Stevens, Thorpe, Townsend, Ugenti, and Weninger (with permission of Committee on Rules).

·       Pima County Republicans First Vice Chair Yale Wishnick: Senator Any Biggs refuses to allow the COS (Article Five Resolution) to be heard by AZ Senate even this  Resolution was mandated by the AZ GOP. I guess the AZ GOP Statewide meeting means nothing. Perhaps, we don't need a GOP.  Oh wait, that's want independents are saying when they leave the GOP.As long as the State GOP in AZ ignores the will of GOP leaders, it will continue to lose GOP members. - Yale Wishnick is also the First Vice Chair for LD2.

·       Reports Are Surfacing That LD15 Rep John Allen has assembled a case file against LD18 Rep Robert Robson for presentation to the House Ethics Committee regarding allegations regarding removal of campaign signs during the 2014campaign season.  Campaign sign removals was a hot topic during the 2014 election cycle. Allen has not returned phone messages regarding the reports.

·       AzCDL Update on HB2320/HB2431: HB 2320 and HB 2431 are scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Appropriations Committee on Tues, March 24.  Despite receiving over a thousand emails urging the committee to pass these bills without amendments, committee chairman, Senator Don Shooter, has proposed three amendments to HB 2320 that if passed would scuttle the bill. HB 2320 (Rep. Brenda Barton, LD-6), is the AzCDL-requested bill that would exempt CCW permit holders from being disarmed when entering state and local government property if their “security” is limited to the flimsy “no firearms” sign bureaucrats like to hide behind, but criminals ignore.  Under the proposed law, everyone entering must be screened if agencies or political subdivisions choose to ban weapons on government property.

ü  All three propsoed amendments are unacceptable.  The first proposed amendment would limit public building and event security requirements to only when the building or event is open to the public.  During “off” hours it’ll be open season by those with criminal intentions.

ü  The second proposed amendment would exempt “judicial branch facilities” (court houses, etc.) from having to allow armed CCW permit holders to enter if “security” is limited to the typical flimsy sign.  This is just another attempt to carve out a special exemption for "special" people living large off your tax dollars.   Additionally, most judicial branch facilities already employ tight security screening so the additional language is not necessary.

ü  The third proposed amendment is part of the ongoing campaign by the Salt River Project to imbed in state law an exemption they already have as a federal entity.   Creating a statutory exemption for “federal reclamation projects” would mean any time you venture into the Salt River Project’s extensive property holdings, which include large swaths of open land, you could be subject to arrest.  The Salt River Project is a federal agency and ultimately reports to President Obama.  This appears to be another end run to assert federal authority in a state issue.

The Appropriations Committee hearing is literally just hours away.  They need to be inundated with emails urging them to pass HB 2320 without any amendmentssend to the Senate Appropriations Committee.  We also encourage you to call the committee members and urge them to pass both HB 2320 and HB 2431 out of committee without any amendments.  Here is the contact information for the Senate Appropriations Committee:
