·       Potential-McCain-Challenger-Kelli-Ward: Widespread-Dissatisfaction-With-Mccain-Job-Performance-Among-Arizonans   Countering McCain’s infrastructure, Ward said, “What I have on my side is the grassroots. The grassroots is on fire with the desire to have someone else in that seat.” Ward said she’s reaching out to a number of potential support bases in her contemplation of the challenge and looking into potential financial team members. She acknowledged the uphill battle in building the infrastructure that could rival McCain, pointing out that McCain has been in office before she could even vote. “I think that people are ready for a change, but not just change for the sake of change, change for the sake of good,” Ward said. “It’s not something to take lightly. It is something that could potentially politically kill me if I decide to do this, but I didn’t get into this to become a politician or have a life in politics.” Ward continued, “If I were to take this on and not win, there’s nothing that Senator McCain and his people could take away from me.”

·       Alex Meluskey, who has announced his candidacy for the 2016 Senate Race, and potential candidate LD5 AZ Senator Kelli Ward were among those attending last night’s Maricopa County Republican recognition dinner… but Sen John McCain – who Melusky and Ward will attempt to dethrone was absent. You may recall McCain was booed at the AZGOP Statutory meeting in January 2015 and censured at the Maricopa County and AZ GOP Statutory meetings in January 2014.

·       Services for Fred MacKenzie, Saddlebrooke Republican Club member, is scheduled  at 10:30 am., Tues., March 31 at the Santa Catalina Catholic Church. MacKenzie was a Saddlebrooke activist, dedicated Republican, retired US Navy officers and career businessman.

He was the first person from Pinal County to serve on the Executive Board of the State Party and the first Republican to run for County Supervisor.  Bridwell was a CD1 Member at large, AZGOP Assistant Sergeant At Arms, Pinal County Republican Committee and Precinct Committeeman, Charter member and past President of the Western Pinal Republican Club and a 2008 Republican National Convention representative. He also served as a Casa Grande Planning and Zoning Commissioner.   He lost his beloved wife about a year ago.  They had eight children and 10 grandchildren.

·       An Override Is Reportedly On The Agenda for the 7 pm., Tues., March 31 Gilbert School Board meeting.

·       An Anti-Common Core Rally is scheduled at 3 pm., Tues., March 31 at the Capitol in Phoenix.  Contact: Itasca Small at 928-434-1515

·       Former Wyoming Superintendent of Education Cindy Hill is coming to Arizona this week to help with the fight against Common Core and HB2184 -  the first prong of the two-pronged attack on the office of Supt of Public Instruction that is up for reconsideration in the House on Wed., April 1. The second prong is the budget, with its Andy Biggs Floor Amendment usurping executive power by the Legislative Branch, as they joined with the governor to unconstitutionally transform the nature of the state board of education, according to Itasca Small, Anti-Common Core leader. Contact Small at 928-434-1515

·       Arizonans Against Common Core Leaders are reporting that HB2190 ( Common Core Repeal and Replace) and HB2246 (Parental Opt Out) will be in the Senate Committee Of The Whole (Cow) Mon, March 30. The vote could be tomorrow in the Senate. (Azleg.Gov/Calendar). Third Read Vote in the Senate can immediately follow COW on Monday, as happened in the House --  but currently the Third Read is not on the calendar. HB2190 will need to return back to the House for a "final vote" before being sent to the Governor since it was amended in the Senate. They do not know if there will be any Floor Amendments on HB2246 in Senate Cow so it may need to return back to the House for a final vote as well. Http://Arizonansagainstcommoncore.Com/

·       A Scottsdale City Council “Work/Study Group’ will meet at 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, at City Hall Kiva Forum, 3939 N. Drinkwater Boulevard, in Scottsdale to address a potential ordinance pertaining to sexual orientation and gender identity to its existing nondiscrimination laws.  Opponents are urged to arrive at 4:30 pm to assure access to setting.  Opponents consider this ordinance a serious threat to the rights of churches and and all people of faith to live, work, and operate according to their beliefs. Click here for city council member e-mail .  Click here to give comments to the council regarding the “non-discrimination” ordinance. Contact: Neville Verster  602-882-0124

·        Tom Morrissey, Immediate Past Chairman AZ GOP: On Saturday my wife Kris and I attended the MCRC Lincoln day Dinner and we were both more than impressed with the quality and energy of the event.  Chairman Tyler Bowyer and his host of volunteers who put on the event demonstrated the spirit of conservatism that is taking hold of our party once again.  The dinner was wonderful.  C T Wright’s prayer was rousing and inspirational.  Congressman Matt Salmon was on fire and Sheriff Joe brought the audience to its feet.  It was Ted Nugent who put the icing on the cake with words that I always hope to hear whenever conservatives gather together, but seldom do.  His message might not have been welcomed by everyone but there was no one in that room that did not understand what he said.  He laid a challenge at our feet as he pointed out that our fate is in our hands and if we are to get this great Republic back on track it is going to take a great deal of effort from All Of Us.  Complaining about those we have elected continuing to conduct legislative business as dictated by the chambers of commerce or in other words continuing the status quo, will not elicit change.  The only thing that will, is to work together relentlessly to elect those into office who will do “the people’s business” and that alone.  Ted Nugent voiced what many of us are thinking and judging by the reaction he received, it was evident that he has reached many of us in attendance. I told him after the speech that he “spoke my soul”.  It is time we realize that we have the power to set the course of our party and ultimately the course of this great nation.  The question now is- will we?

·       Paul Brierley: I find it interesting that you highlighted with disdain the fact that Cindy McCain is trying to raise reelection dollars for her husband this early in the cycle, 3-28-15-briefs while the real king of early solicitations (even sending emails out ahead of an election year that he won't be up for election!) is Joe Arpaio but you don't even mention him.  I know you are always objective and impartial, so I thought you might like to see the email below to highlight in the next Briefs.  Editor’s Note: Briefs hadn’t seen Arpaio’s pitch for money that Brierly forwarded.  Arpaio’s March 29 message to Brierly reads: “Less than 72 hours remain in March, and that means we are closing in our on very important End of Quarter deadline. I just spoke to my campaign team and they told me we're still $9,823 short of our EOQ goals.” And continues “PS -- My opponents (of which there are already many) are anxious to see the numbers my campaign is able to raise -- as they will use it as a way to interpret the strength our campaign has. I can't afford to let down my defenses -- will you help bolster our response by making an urgent end-of-month contribution of … right away?    It should also be noted that newly elected Congresswoman Martha McSally had barely taken her oath of office when e-mails went out soliciting re-election funds. Readers – particularly to those on fixed incomes - are getting fed up with the NRC’s daily hammering for funds, as well.

·       The Pima County Republican Club will meet at 11:30 am., Tues., March 31 at the Sabbar Center,  450 S Tucson Blvd., Tucson to hear Jeffrey Utsch’s update on  “States Responses to Article V efforts”.

An estimated 30,000 children and adults in the United States live with Cystic Fibrosis  . Over 500 participants are expected to participate in the walk.

·       Jose Borrajero’s  AZRRT Call To Action And Weekly Activity Report 150327-2050  Weekly update on what’s happening at the Arizona legislature.  Fresh post every Saturday.

·       The March 30 Arizona Project meeting has been canceled.

·       Supt of Public Instruction Diane Douglas has announced the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) is seeking comment on draft versions of updated Arizona Arts Standards. The draft standards available for review will be used to revise Arizona’s current standards for dance, media arts, music, theatre, and visual arts. Parents and other education stakeholders across Arizona will be able to comment on the revised standards until April 24, 2015. Details for input:  arts-standards-review. The Department will also hold three statewide public webinars and four public meetings, two in Phoenix and one each in Flagstaff and Tucson. Comments from all sessions will be recorded.

·       The Arizona Citizens Defense League (AzCDL) reports hearing that the Legislative Leadership wants to adjourn the 2015 session on Thurs, April 3rd.  Therefore, any bill that has not passed out of both chambers (House and Senate) by adjournment is dead.  The following bills need a boost via your emails to ensure they get to the Governor before adjournment.

ü  HB 2320 (Rep. Brenda Barton, LD-6) is the AzCDL-requested bill that would exempt CCW permit holders from being disarmed when entering state and local government property unless everyone entering is screened for weapons.  HB 2320 is scheduled for a Senate Committee of the Whole (COW) hearing on Monday, March 30.  It’s time to contact your Senators and urge them to support HB 2320 during the COW hearing and subsequent Third Read vote.  Click here to send your email on HB 2320.

ü  HB 2431 (Rep. Bob Thorpe, LD-6) is the AzCDL-requested bill that would establish an interstate compact that restricts member states from enacting firearms transfer requirements greater than existing federal law.  In essence, this would create a ceiling that state law could not exceed.  Bloomberg’s lobbyists have been attacking this bill heavily.  It’s kryptonite to his scheme to establish gun owner registration in Arizona.  They almost derailed it in the House, and they’re trying hard to kill it in the Senate.  Your emails have been keeping their efforts from being successful.  We need another round of emails to the Senate.  Click here to send your email on HB 2431.

ü  HB 2527, has made it through the Legislature and was sent to the Governor on Wed, March 25.  HB 2527 (Rep. Anthony Kern, LD-20) is the AzCDL-requested bill that strengthens Arizona’s firearms preemption laws by prohibiting state agencies and political subdivisions from restricting the transfer of firearms.  Current state firearms preemption statutes do not restrict state agencies from regulating firearm transfers.  This leaves an opening for anti-rights zealots to create regulations to criminalize private firearms exchanges and create databases to track gun owners. The Governor has until midnight Tues, March 31 to make a decision on HB 2527.  We want him to sign it into law.  As this was being written, AzCDL members and supporters have sent almost 2,000 emails asking Governor Ducey to sign HB 2527.  Click here to send your email to the Governor.

Pro-rights firearms bills progressing through the Legislature:

ü  SB 1291 (Senator Steve Smith, LD-11), which would allow for injunctions, fines and civil suits when political subdivisions (counties, cities, etc.) disregard state firearm preemption statues, passed out of the House Military Affairs and Public Safety (MAPS) Committee on March 12 and the Rules Committee on March 26.  It needs to heard in the House COW to proceed.

ü  SB 1330 (Senator Kelli Ward, LD-5), which would make any future federal acts that violate the Second Amendment invalid in Arizona, passed out of the House MAPS Committee on March 19 .  It was held by the House Rules committee during their March 26 meeting.   AzCDL Bill Tracking page.

·       Republicans of Maricopa County Chairman Tyler Bowyer reports that some 400 Republicans attended the Lincoln Dinner Saturday evening to hear patriotic guitarist Ted Nugent’s pep talk and watch outstanding precinct committee recognized for their work this past year.

According to Bowyer, Nugent joked that he and Sheriff Joe should go find Hillary (Clinton) and Lois Lerner and lock them up for the scandals they have contributed to under the Obama regime. Many of Ted's words were echoed with hoots and hollers, particularly with his sentiments that Republicans need to always stand up for what's right and say what needs to be said, regardless of how the media tries to spin it. He told the crowd, "real people want shit-kickers, people that are going to say it how it is." Ted is the longest serving board member on the NRA and is very outspoken about the GOP's need to be loud and proud.

Congressman Matt Salmon received a standing ovation (reflective of the GOP State Meeting in January) for his passionate words about protecting life and liberty and standing for what's right in Washington. He made many mentions of Republicans proving themselves with the majority by sticking to our word and holding leadership accountable to putting legislation on Obama's desk.

Executive Director April Riggins presented organizer Liz Alcorn with a dozen roses and high praise for an incredible job. They ended up putting upwards of 10 people at some tables.

Dr. C. T. Wright gave invocation and LD5 Sen Kelli Ward, lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Short talks were given by Chris DeRose, Congressman David Schweikert and Salmon. Bowyer served as the master of ceremonies and Arpaio introduced Nugent.  Schweikert and Salmon present the coveted Lincoln Bust to George Teegarden and Reagan Busts to Sandy Bartlett and Marcus Huey.

Teegarden has been dubbed “Jack of All Trades” and “Unsung Hero of the County GOP.” He has quietly and humbly delivered thousands of hours of volunteerism throughout his long service to multiple State, County and District Committees. His work with voter data has resulted in countless numbers of PC recruitment, organizing and strategic GOP victories. He was honored for his impeccable service to the GOP.

The Ronald Reagan Annual Service Awards (“Volunteer of the Year”)

went to Sandy Bartlett and Marcus Huey. As Maricopa County is the largest Republican county in the nation, it is an extremely competitive accolade recognizing the “best of the best” in the Arizona political activist world. Winners are selected from the ‘Most Valuable Precinct Committeemen’ as nominated by 20 district chairmen from across Maricopa County, according to Bowyer. LD2 and LD13 did not submit any nominees.

·       Congresswoman Martha McSally’s Weekly Wrap-up: We laid to rest 14 forgotten soldiers at the Missing in America Project’s Veteran Recovery Program. This organization locates and identifies the remains of veterans, many of whom who were homeless, to ensure a proper burial worthy of their service. See services for homeless veterans in Southern Arizona, click HERE.

ü  I was joined 76 others to make the 17-story rappel in support the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona, which serves 14,000 girls from ages 3-17 in Southern Arizona.

ü  All along our border, so-called “spotters” camp out and transmit information about the position and surveillance efforts of Border Patrol to transnational criminal organizations, helping them traffic drugs, money, and weapons into our communities. During multiple trips to the border, I’ve seen where these spotters operate from and heard frustrations from ranchers and Border Patrol about the lack of consequences and penalties spotters face. This week, I introduced my first bill of the 114th Congress to stop spotters.  See bill HERE.

ü  Spoke to over 1,500 high school students about the importance of leadership and serving as role models at this year’s League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) annual Youth Leadership Conference.

ü  I led a bipartisan effort with 17 of my colleagues to request House appropriators continue funding the A-10 and reject the Administration’s plan to divest the fleet beginning in Fiscal Year 2016. I also questioned Air Force officials at a House Armed Services hearing about the lack of replacement capabilities for the A-10 and EC-130H, two aircraft housed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base and currently deployed in combat operations overseas. See funding request HERE .
