·       McCain Gets Kid Glove Treatment From Left-Leaning Politico  “…The 1,150 to 351 censure vote against him by elected state committeemen at the 2014 Republican statutory meeting resulted in an orchestrated effort played out by his surrogates to oust longtime conservatives from the party ranks. He now has a chokehold on the state GOP, with ambitious chairman Robert Graham obediently falling in line.”

·       Is-The-Tea-Party-Afraid-Of-John-McCain?    “That’s how we fight wars, by the way: You just crush the opponent, and then you don’t have to worry about as many opponents,” said former Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl, referring to McCain’s campaign tactics.

·       PCs Planning To Participate In The 9 Am, Sat., April 18 Protest Rally at AZGOP HQ. 3501 N. 24th St., Phx to  “give Chairman Graham the chance to open the doors to us” should contact “Get A Life” organizer Peggy McClain at  McClain is the LD18 PC whom AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham “tweeted” Easter night and told her to “Get A Life” when she questioned his closing the AZGOP Executive Committee meeting to State Committeemen and PC observers.

·       Southern AZ GOP Activist Jim Ehl:  … As state chairman of the AZ GOP, faced with an approved censure of an elected official, what would be expected of the chairman?   It has been on the net that Senator John McCain would fare better in an open election more so that a closed one.   However, if this executive meeting (April 18 )  shows that Robert Graham has sided with McCain rather than the membership, and/or if Senator McCain is invited to speak at this meeting – it  would seem that would be grounds for recalling Graham and electing a chairman who will represent the membership.

·       Arizona Freedom Alliance is urging Patriotic PCs to call AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham at AZGOP HQ (602) 957-7770 requesting admittance to the Sat., April 18 Executive Committee meeting that AZGOP Chairman has closed to PC observers.

·       Congressman Matt Salmon: I've posted a new update on the latest from Washington on my website.  See full post Link  America has a taxing problem. This week was tax week, the deadline for hard working Americans to file their tax returns so that the U.S. Government will return to them the money they took from their paychecks over the past year.  As government spends more, so too does it tax more, and tax week reminds us yet again that major reforms are needed. On Wednesday, I sent out a video update highlighting the efforts I’ve made over the last year to reform our tax code

·       SOS Michele Reagan :  While Arizona’s 52nd legislature wrapped up business with a number of noteworthy accomplishments, perhaps none will have more of an impact on our system of elections than HB2649.  The legislation signed by the Governor this week protects individuals who come together to simply express their First Amendment rights from burdensome government regulation. The new law comes in response to a federal court ruling that Arizona’s definition of a political committee was “vague, overbroad and consequently unconstitutional in violation of the First Amendment.”   full statement

·       Anna Marie Brennan Announces For Mayor Of Phoenix:  Long time Phoenix resident Anna Maria Brennan has filed her paper work as a candidate for Phoenix Mayor.  Brennan, a mother of four and a business women is concerned about the direction the City is headed with ever increasing taxes, mayoral lack of concern for the police and fire personal needs, Federal Aviation Administration changes in flight patterns over the city's historic neighborhoods and an overall display of irresponsible leadership. Brennan says this election will be about effective public policy and not political philosophy.  Citizens are annoyed with ever increasing water bills, transportation tax increases and downtown parking meter rate increases that make it very costly to transact governmental or private business transactions. Brennan was born in Sicily and while a child came to America where she and her family became citizens.  As a young woman she understood that America was truly the "Land of Opportunity" and opened a family restaurant and later received a nursing degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee (a private, coeducational Jesuit, Catholic University).  "One of the things I've learned as an immigrant is the value of hard work and tenacity". She's spent time working as a waitress, theatre attendant, grocery store clerk, flight attend, registered nurse and business owner. "I'm anxious to role up my sleeves to serve the people of Phoenix on the issues important to them.  I'm beginning my listening tour immediately."  Contact:   480-707-9043.

·       Congressman Paul A. Gosar after introducing H.R. 1869, the Environmental Compliance Cost Transparency Act, which requires federal agencies active in the wholesale power business to disclose the costs of environmental compliance to their customers: “Federal projects like the Hoover Dam have been producing affordable and reliable electricity for millions of customers for nearly 80 years. Hydropower is a clean and renewable source of energy that is carbon free and provides low-cost electricity. Unfortunately, in too many instances throughout the country extremist environmentalist policies are hindering renewable energy sources, like hydropower, and making them less affordable. For far too long, the high cost of burdensome federal environmental policies has been hidden from the public. American energy consumers deserve to know how much environmental policies are costing them on their electrical bills. We need to restore some balance and commonsense to this country....”  Full text HERE.

·       Congressman Matt Salmon: On the legislative front, the House took on some of these tax issues in the bills we passed this week.

ü  Wednesday, the House passed H.R. 650, the Preserving Access to Manufactured Housing Act of 2015, by a vote of 263-162.  H.R. 650 amends the Truth in Lending Act to allow for the first mortgage on a homeowner’s principal home to not be considered “high cost” if certain criteria are met.  This legislation also clarifies that the definition of “mortgage originator” does not include retailers of manufactured or modular homes, in certain circumstances.  This act allows consumers to have increased access to mortgage credit and ensure the availability of financing options for manufactured homes and ensure they are still protected by existing financial reform legislation.

ü  The House passed H.R. 685, the Mortgage Choice Act of 2015, 286-140.  amending   the Truth in Lending Act to exclude insurance held in escrow and, under certain circumstances fees, from the costs that are considered when determining some specifics of a mortgage.  It also directs the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to issue regulations to carry out this bill within 90 days of enactment.

·       Congressman Matt Salmon: On Thursday, H.R. 622, the State and Local Sales Tax Deduction Fairness Act of 2015, passed by a vote of 272-152.  H.R. 622 amends the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to make permanent an itemized deduction for State and local general sales taxes for taxable years beginning after December 31, 2014.

ü  Passed H.R. 1105, the Death Tax Repeal Act of 2015, by a vote of 240-179. , amending the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to repeal the estate and generation transfer skipping tax and reduce the highest gift tax rate from 40 to 35 percent.  H.R. 1105 also provides for a transition rule for those who died before the date of enactment. That rule provides that an estate tax will not be imposed if certain criteria are met.

ü  Next week: H.R. 1195, the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection Advisory Boards Act; H.R. 1560, the Protecting Cyber Networks Act; and H.R. 1731, the National Cybersecurity Protection Advancement Act of 2015.

·        Congresswoman Martha McSally: The High Price Tag And Slow Repairs To A Part Of The Border Fence that divides the U.S. and Mexico are of great concern, McSally, said Thursday.  McSally wrote a letter to U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske on Thursday after an Associated Press report found the repairs to about 60 feet of fencing cost $730,000. "Given the limited availability of funding and the need for new, more effective technologies along our southern border, I find the cost of the repairs to be of great concern," McSally wrote.  See letter  HERE

·       Sens John McCain and Lindsey Graham on remarks made by General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, diminishing the possible fall of Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province in Iraq, to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL): “Chairman Dempsey’s statement that Ramadi ‘is not symbolic in any way,’ has ‘not been declared part of the caliphate,’ and is not ‘central to the future of Iraq’ is a gross mischaracterization. Disregarding the strategic importance of Ramadi is a denial of reality and an insult to the families of hundreds of brave young Americans who were killed and wounded during the Surge fighting to free Ramadi from the grip of Al-Qaeda. 150,000 Iraqi men, women, and children, mostly Sunnis, are fleeing ISIL’s murderous advance on Ramadi. General Dempsey does not seem to appreciate that the fall of Ramadi would be seen by Iraqi Sunnis as a failure of the Baghdad government to protect them, and could deal a major blow to political reconciliation efforts that are essential to defeating ISIL. Yet apparently, the current U.S. strategy is to defend an oil refinery in Beiji, but abandon the capital of pivotal Anbar province to ISIL. Note: Army statistics alone indicate that 187 Army soldiers were killed and over 700 were wounded in Ramadi between August 2005 and March 2007
