·       LD23 Rep Jay Lawrence: A session wrap up.  We finished up around 3 am with a flurry of activity.  It is frustrating to see good bills die because we run out of time, but we’ll work hard and be ready to pass them next year.  One example was the bill to end ballot harvesting.  We have heard examples, thanks to A J LaFaro's detective work, of individuals carrying hundreds of ballots to various delivery points and jamming them into receptacles.  I think we could have passed it, but the bill died because the Senate adjourned before the House was ready for "sine die."  I find it very frustrating that a good bill should die because the Senate wants to finish up an hour or two earlier.  It will be among the first bills I introduce next session.  I kept my promise to try to eliminate Common Core and we were successful in the House.  Sadly, the Senate was another story, because 4 Republican Senators voted to preserve Common Core.  We did have victories in the final hours though.  The bill that would have stripped Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas of many of her powers was pulled after leadership realized it was doomed.  We just said no way.  The Governor’s attempt to create an inspector general separate from the Attorney General never made it out of the Senate.  There is a lot more to tell about the session and the last night, but it will have to wait for a bit.  In spite of the late hours, I love this job.  Thank you for letting me serve you!

·       A Coffee And Cocoa Club Breakfast with Sen Jeff Flake and Rep Jason Chaffetz is scheduled at 8 am., April 11 at the Phoenix Airport Marriott. Registration at 7:30 am.  $50 includes membership, breakfast and hot beverage mug. Register here.

·       Former House Candidate Shawnna Bolick was recently approved to serve on the Arizona Early Childhood Development and Health Board by a full Senate vote. She was nominated by Gov Doug Ducey.

·       Sarah Brady, wife of James Brady – former press secretary for President Ronald Reagan has died of pneumonia.  She was the chairwoman of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence from 2000 until her death. Her husband was shot in the head during the 1981 attempt on Reagan's life. See

·       Arizona Republican Assembly (AzRA) : Very few things are more difficult for AzRA than to have to take elected officials – especially those with whom we have a good relationship – to the woodshed for a vote that is in conflict with our rights under the Constitution.  Votes opposing HB2246 (Common Core Removal) is one of these occasions. Some are attempting to justify their egregious act. HB2246 was dropped into the legislative process on Jan22 –the first full week of this session.  The reason for the bill deals directly to the potential damage to Arizona students from the mandates encompassed in all iterations of Common Core.

The only proposed amendment to HB2246 – other than a clerical floor amendment by the sponsor re: the Civics Test – occurred in the House Education Committee on Feb 18 – the first public hearing on HB2246 – is as follows:  “3. The lack of assessment results for that child may not be factored into performance classifications adopted pursuant to section 15‑203, subsection A, paragraph 38 or performance based compensation systems adopted pursuant to section 15‑977.” No other amendment was even proposed either in the House or the Senate in spite of the numerous times when HB2246 was being voted on over the ensuing 10 weeks (four weeks in the Senate). None of the Republican Senators who voted Nay proposed one amendment to “fix” the problems they now use as excuses for their vote. HB2246 was killed by 70% of the Democrat Senators in cooperation with 35% of our Republican Senators including All of the OBrewercrats that gave us Medicaid.

Being a Republican does not inoculate elected officials from being held accountable by conservative Republicans.  The Silent Majority will be Silent no more. The National Federation of Republican Assemblies Mission Statement and the Arizona Republican Assembly Mission Statement are clear – The time for talking is over. It is time for action. Editor’s Note. This is a condensed for space. Read complete Update to HB2246 Article at

·       The Republican Party of Maricopa County congratulates all of the state and legislative Republicans leaders on a tremendously successful legislative session including the passage of countless bills that directly support the Republican Party platform. The efforts of the 52nd Legislature over the past few months will yield positive economic and social returns for Arizona for decades to come.  These leaders invested hundreds of hours and immense energy to produce meaningful reforms such as the elimination of the state’s structural deficit by the end of FY2017, a renewed commitment to academic excellence for all Arizona children, an unwavering dedication to the sanctity of life, the enactment of economy-stimulating tax reforms, as well as, the implementation of strong pro-business and deregulatory policy. The 52nd Legislature has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to conservative policies and elevated Arizona as the leading Republican state in America.  The Republican Party of Maricopa County is grateful for the selfless service of our elected leaders. -  Republican Party of Maricopa County Communications Director Jake Hoffman (480) 980-7020

·       Secretary of State Michele Reagan: It’s been an amazing first few months since I took office as Arizona’s 20th Secretary of State. In little over a month, we’ve initiated a number of projects to improve the quality of the work done by my office. We’ve been deeply involved with critical legislative issues that have required our immediate attention. From providing technical insights on important bills making their way through the process, to refurbishing antiquated information systems and digital platforms, it’s been a busy few months. Throughout the campaign for Secretary of State, I vowed to improve transparency and technology. Over the next several years, this newsletter will represent a timely example of both as our office attempts to keep you apprised of the activities of the state’s 2nd highest elective office. As always, I appreciate your feedback. Simply respond to the newsletter at and let us know what you think!

The donation follows UPS employees’ participation in Honor Flight of Tucson and Southern Arizona’s Second Annual Race for Vets event. ·       American Sporting Legend Ted Nugent brought the crowd of more than 400 Republican activists from Maricopa County to their feet more than once at the 2015 Lincoln Day Dinner hosted by the Republican Party of Maricopa County this past Saturday, March 28. “The tragedy that Barack Obama is actually the leader of this county is shattering the best people’s hearts and souls all across this nation,” said Nugent..  “Here it is, the Lincoln Day Dinner and the great Maricopa County Republican Party -- you should be damn proud of yourselves.  Let me warn you, don’t get spoiled.  Don’t let your guard down.  While you have control and you still demand that quality of life is based on the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Ten Commandments, the Golden Rule, a work ethic and an ethic to be as productive as possible; there are still punks in the sidebar that are ready to destroy [freedom] every hour of every day.  And so you can’t just be a good Republican, you have to make sure that you crush the Democrats.

“It is up to We the People and all of you representing We the People to take this country back,” said Nugent.  “The Democrats are insane.  The government today is insane.  You can fix this.  You’ve got a good, dare I say, stranglehold here in Arizona, but you need to take what you’ve done here in Arizona and what we’ve done in Texas and spread it.”  Contact: Executive Director April Riggins 602-909-9255

·       Gov Doug Ducey: "I'm grateful to the Arizona lawmakers who worked swiftly and diligently to complete the people's work for this session. I've always said government should operate at the speed of business, and legislative leadership, particularly President Biggs and Speaker Gowan, were partners in making that happen. Of course, it's not just about working quickly -- it's about working in good faith to serve the people of Arizona in the best way we know how. In a few short months, we've set priorities and upheld them, made promises and kept them, and we've taken significant steps to get our fiscal house in order and improve education in the state of Arizona. I'm proud of what we've accomplished, and look forward to working with legislators in the interim and in future sessions to continue leading Arizona forward."

·       Congresswoman Martha McSally -  after the U.S. Air Force forward deployed 12 A-10 Thunderbolt IIs from the 354th Fighter Squadron and 200 airmen from Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany to Campia Turzii, Romania. The aircraft will conduct training operations with NATO allies to deter Russian aggression in Ukraine. “I commend the 354th Fighter Squadron and our brave service members from DM for their contributions to NATO’s Operation Atlantic Resolve and efforts to protect our allies in the face of Russian aggression – and wish them a safe return. With A-10s now deployed in Europe and against ISIS in the Middle East, we are reminded again of the complex array of threats facing our nation and the A-10’s critical role in maintaining our national security. The A-10 continues to be called upon because there simply is no better aircraft to provide close air support to troops, and without a replacement capability, we should not be divesting this asset well ahead of its scheduled retirement date. I will continue fighting to make sure our troops in harm’s way have the best close air support available flying overhead.” In February, 12 A-10s from Davis-Monthan were deployed to Europe to help support NATO’s presence in the face of Russian aggression in Ukraine. McSally has led a bipartisan effort to keep the A-10 flying and last week led her colleagues in a request to House appropriators to reject the Administration’s plan to divest the A-10 fleet beginning in Fiscal Year 2016.
