In little more than an hour the lemon aid stand brought in more than $50.  The children will donate 100% of the gross earnings to Nepal Earthquake Relief efforts of the American Red Cross.  They will setup another charity lemon aid stand on Mon, May 4 between 2:30 - 3:30 pm.  Monday’s stand will be located at the intersection of E. Portola Valley Dr and S. Atherton Blvd. near A Child’s Place at the Ranches preschool.

“I am delighted to watch my children growing up with a desire to serve others,” said Hoffman.    “As parents we work hard to instill in them the values and principles that reflect our beliefs and it is humbling to see them striving to make a positive impact on the lives of others.”

“It is wonderful to see that the desire to serve others is alive and well in our youngest citizens,” said Republican Party of Gilbert and Queen Creek Chairwoman Mickie Niland.  “At the heart of the Republican Party is the willingness to serve others and Tyler and McKenzie certainly have shown that we will continue to do so for generations to come.”

The Republican Party of Gilbert and Queen Creek promotes civic engagement, encourage participation in the political process, and supports the Republican Party platform; among others.  Hoffman also serves on the Higley Unified School District governing board, vice-chairman of the Republican Party of Gilbert and Queen Creek and Communications Director for the Maricopa County Republican Party.

·       Editor’s Note:  When expressing opinions, please limit commentary to 300 words.

·       LD23 Chairman Jim O’Connor: As district chair of LD 23 I was in attendance as a non-voting member of the state party executive committee meeting. The attendees were given a one page overview of one year of anticipated expenditures. Robert showed us an Excel spreadsheet with the detail projected onto a screen at the front of the meeting room and discussed much of that document and answered questions on it. The budget that was passed was for a one (1) year time period i.e. 2015. That is all I can report, but it is exactly what happened in answer to the questions you posed. – Editor’s Note: O'Connor is referring to questions Briefs asked AZGOP Robert Graham and Treasurer Jonthan Lines regarding the budget presentation at the April 18 meeting. See top story 4-29-15-briefs

·       Phoenix City Councilman Jim Waring: Last week, Council members Thelda Williams, Bill Gates, Sal DiCiccio and myself voted against a proposal that some believe will allow Phoenix to create its own ID card. This could cost, based on the experiences of other cities, the City of Phoenix millions of dollars in startup costs and millions more in annual costs to produce a card that would not serve as valid identification to police officers. The City Council should address its budget issues and not spend time on what will be an expensive attempt to circumvent immigration laws, which are the federal government's responsibility. Please see below for a few articles from the Arizona Republic on the issue.

Jim Waring,  Phoenix City Councilman - District 2

·       Phoenix City Councilman Sal DeCiccio:   Phoenix Sheraton Cost You $130 Million in Depreciation: plus $38 Million in Operational Loss - Detroit?  See DiCiccio’s statement at deficit hotel operation

·       LD21 Sen Debbie Lesko: Arizona school districts are estimated to receive millions extra in classroom site funding next year.  Peoria District Schools will see a boost of $1.1 Million and Dysart schools $800,000 extra.  Detail State Budget details:  The budget was balanced in March; legislature adjourned April 3. A lot of good legislation was signed into law. This year’s focus was to ensure government lives within its means and to reduce regulations on people and businesses in an effort to boost the economy and increase liberty.

My legislation this year focused on tax policy, consumer protection, and helping schools and PTAs.  My tax reform legislation, SB1446, helps contractors and was just one vote short of a unanimous vote.  SB1465, my consumer protection legislation that protects roof top solar customers, passed unanimously by both the House and Senate and is now being promoted as national model legislation.  Legislation I introduced to help schools and PTAs, SB1267, allows schools to seek waivers through the state from the federal government’s over-reaching ban on snow cone and cupcake sales after schools.  It is both shocking and sad that I even had to introduce this legislation, all because the current federal administration decided to ban school groups from selling snacks after school that were not on their approved “healthy snack” list. The economic and physical securities of our children are secured by this Budget which creates $32 billion in surplus and ultimately pays off the national debt without raising taxes. The FY2016 Budget cuts more than $5 trillion, ensures the National Defense by supporting our military and the resources necessary to counter global threats, repeals Obamacare, and saves, strengthens, and secures Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. This is a victory for the American people and further evidence that Republicans are committed to a healthy economy built on opportunity and the same fiscal discipline that American families live by every day."
