·       Gov Doug Ducey:  “On Memorial Day, we honor the men and women who have laid down their lives in defense of American freedom and democracy. “For as long as we’ve had independence, we’ve had heroes who risk everything to protect it. There is no cause more noble, no calling more selfless.      Our nation isn’t exceptional by accident, and it isn’t free by birthright. As President Reagan would remind us, freedom ‘must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it only comes once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again.’

“We’re eternally grateful to the men and women who fight every day so that we may always know freedom, and we’re especially indebted to those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice on our behalf. May God watch over them, may He protect those who continue to serve and may He continue to bless the military families who make daily sacrifices of their own. In honor of Memorial Day and the service members who’ve died for our country, I have ordered that all state flags be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until noon on Monday, May 25, 2015. I invite all Arizonans to join in this tribute.

·       Voter Registration Has Decreased By 11,485 Since January, according to Secretary of State Michele Reagan.

·       Secretary of State Michele Reagan: First Amendment Rights at Risk?As you may have heard, I’m deeply troubled by what appears to be the Citizens Clean Election Commission’s latest attempt to seize the role of the Legislature and declare itself as Arizona’s Free Speech policeman. Free speech advocates should be very concerned by this brazen power grab. In adopting the Citizens Clean Elections Act, the people of Arizona sought to expand and promote freedom of speech and citizen participation in the political process. But now, CCEC is to gain through regulation what it could not achieve through legislation with new and burdensome regulatory powers. To learn more, visit my blog and please register your opinion on the survey. The right to engage in robust First Amendment speech is too important for us to stand on the sidelines.

·       Secretary of State Michele Reagan has announced the business services division of the office has implemented an online web application and renewal for Notaries Public.  On average, the division processes 1,300 notaries public applications each month. The Secretary of State’s Business Services Division commissions, records and maintains notaries in Arizona.  A notary public witnesses signatures and verifies identities of signers.  While every state commissions notaries, each one allows different functions. In our state, notaries may perform acknowledgments, jurats, copy certifications, and oaths and affirmations. “Notaries perform a valuable service in our legal system by confirming someone’s identity and ensuring signatures are made willingly on important documents like home mortgages, vehicle titles and other legal papers,” said Secretary Reagan. “It’s our hope the online application makes it easier for people to join thousands of notaries in Arizona who fulfill such an important role.” See

·       LD21 Sen Debbie Lesko:  Water and Energy.  What can be more important in Arizona?  We rely on both every day. That is why I am passionate about these issues and why I requested and was assigned to serve on the Senate Water & Energy Committee where I work to help ensure that Arizona continues to have enough of both. Does Arizona have enough water? That is the question on a lot of people’s minds and one I had answered at a recent workshop I attended, presented by the AZ Department of Water Resources and the Central Arizona Project. The answer is yes, at least for now. Unlike California, which has imposed mandatory water restrictions, Arizona has done a much better job of planning for long term drought.  Here in Arizona , thanks to long-term planning and innovative water management, the state is prepared to handle the effects of the current drought.  In fact, Arizona has been planning for a potential shortage for decades and has stored excess water underground since 1996. If the drought continues and Lake Mead falls below an elevation of 1075′, which may happen as early as 2016, then cut backs from the Colorado River to farmers in central Arizona will occur and water rates will increase, but water to city residents will not be reduced. Contact: or 602-926-5413.

·       LD21 Sen Debbie Lesko: Will the EPA’s new proposed carbon rule affect utility customers in Arizona?  The answer is definitely yes. Sometime this summer, the EPA is expected to decide if they will implement the new rule.  According to the Arizona Corporation Commission, the EPA’s plan will require all Arizona coal plants to shut down by 2020, adversely impacting the reliability of electric service and  jeopardizing national security.  Currently, coal produces 80% of Tucson Electric’s power, 53% of SRP’s power, and 40% of APS’s power. Solar can not make up the difference and converting to natural gas in that short of a time period may not be possible and will cost huge amounts of money.  This rule, if implemented by the federal government will dramatically increase our utility rates and negatively impact the economy of our state.  That is why I have been an outspoken critic of the rule and support Arizona’s intent to join other states in suing the federal government if the rule is implemented. Contact: or 602-926-5413.
