·       The Arizona Democrat Party Is Hot On the vulnerability of Sen. John McCain as they raise funds to unseat him in 2016. An e-mail distributed today, sporting an uncomplimentary photo of him trying to loosen a strangle hold necktie, refers to him as one of the most vulnerable Senate candidates in the “entire country.” The memo goes on to say “Arizona voters on both sides are extremely dissatisfied with McCain, which is why polls show McCain is ‘at serious risk of losing.’" It continues: “According to Public Policy Polling, McCain is ‘in a whole lot of trouble for re-election next year.’ We don't know about you, but we're sick of McCain and ready for a change. If we're going to knock out McCain, the time is now!”

·       Although Many Arizonans Wish He Would Go Sit On The Porch, he’s making appearances everywhere he can wiggle a toe through the door.  That’s certainly a switcheroo from a couple of years ago when he was holding meetings with select folks.  Seems there was a sudden change in his attitude and appearance routine in Arizona after the grassroots precinct committeemen got his attention with a resolution of censure in Jan 2014. These days, press releases are rolling out of his DC office like an ice cream machine at the Dairy Queen. But that didn’t prevent the boos, hisses and turned backs when he made a surprise visit to the January AZOP State Statutory meeting, complete with a bus load of folks proudly waving their Viet Namese flags in his behalf. AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham, who has been making inroads into the Viet Namese community, still contends he had no prior knowledge of McCain’s intrusion into the State meeting.  Nevertheless, Graham took the heat for McCain’s campaign publicity stunt.

·       It Was A Memorable Moment for the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors when Brigadier General Gregory J. Melikian, retired USAF, enlightened them with his story as young telegraph radio operator under the commander of Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, who on May 7, 1945, announced the unconditional surrender of Germany and the end of the WWII in Europe. His telegraph is on display at the Arizona State University Hayden Library. See Brigadier General Gregory Melikian recount his momentous role

·       Marcus: Out-Of-Touch-Tone-Deaf-Clintons-A-Toxic-Mix  …Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” Washington Post columnist Ruth Marcus said former President Bill Clinton did former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton no favors with his explanation that he will continue to take millions of dollars to give speeches because he has to “pay the bills.” Marcus said, “I thought, from Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton’s point of view, it was an ill-advised interview. Once again, we see this absolute really toxic combination of tone deafness from the Clintons, and not being in touch with the concerns of ordinary Americans. When President Clinton is asked—are you going to keep on giving speeches for $500,000 a pop?—he says, well, of course, yeah, we have—I got to pay the bills. The rest of us, with a few $100,000 speeches, could manage to pay bills for quite a while.”

·       AZ-Poll: Sen-McCain-Under-50-Percent, Extraordinarily-Vulnerable   …Five-term incumbent Sen. John McCain  - 45%  has good reason to fear a primary challenge. ·       Phoenix City Councilman Sal DiCiccio: Yesterday, Mayor Stanton dropped another budget bombshell revealing his budget will be using credit to pay for credit. In your household, that would be similar to paying your mortgage with a credit card. According to city staff, his maneuver to hide the pension obligation will cost taxpayers $58 Million more in Interest alone. He never included any of this information in the budget hearings. Instead, it was glossed over to hide the real motivation in an election year - a motivation that will cost you and your family more money.

Just like his votes to use your money to pay for the Sheraton and his new $31 Billion Train Tax - where it will cost you $161 Million per mile - he is now planning a budget shenanigan which is fiscally irresponsible. This maneuver puts the financial health of our great city at risk. Phoenix will have its highest revenue in history, but  fewer and fewer services will be provided because of rising pension costs. The bottom line is that his budget has:

ü  The highest revenue in Phoenix history - but still face a budget problem.

ü  Total Pension Retirement Costs for 2015-2016 = $319 Million

ü  $58 Million in more interest charges

The practice of piling debt on top of debt is fiscally irresponsible costing you $58 Million more in interest charges. My commitment to you is to fight for real reform and to implement fiscal accountability and reform to city government. You have my pledge to continue to expose these shenanigans by the politicians and do all I can to bring fiscal accountability to our city.

·       Alan Korwin "The Uninvited Ombudsman" to USA Today: : Every day on page two of the print edition of USA Today, your portrait and a blurb assures readers that "USA Today is committed to accuracy." On page one of the paper on April 28 we read that "We are deploying every resource possible to gain control of the situation and ensure peace moving forward," according to Baltimore's mayor, referring to the recent riots there.
I have no doubt the paper quoted the mayor accurately, but her statement is patently false. We all watched on live TV as scores if not hundreds of battle-outfitted police officers stood around and simply watched rioters, arsonists and looters do whatever they pleased, right in front of them. Reporters at the scene on every channel were aghast, wondering why these readily available resources were not being deployed.
No reporter from USA Today asked her -- or editors suppressed her answer -- and let the false statement run, misleading readers. No images contradicting the mayor's obviously false statement ran. In fact, the front page images in both the Arizona and national editions of the paper (which were markedly different) failed to reveal the truth of the matter, which everyone with a TV set knew, harming the credibility of USA Today.
How does this comport with your "commitment to accuracy"? Do you plan to run a correction, or anything to explain the extremely misleading front-page reporting? Korwin

·       Reps. Gosar, Pearce Call on Kornze NOT to Combine New Mexico, Arizona BLM Offices    “Relocating Arizona’s BLM office to Santa Fe defies commonsense and will lead to permitting delays, job losses, increased wildfires and less efficient land management. Furthermore, forcing 120 Arizona employees to uproot their lives and move to Santa Fe or lose their jobs is not normal workforce attrition.   Currently, BLM spends almost $100 million each year on new land acquisition when the agency already can’t manage their existing land portfolio. Instead it should prioritize spending and find the necessary funding for this field office that is critical to Arizona’s economy. The millions of acres of BLM land in our state require a local office with local employees that are familiar with the unique topography and multiple land-use planning process utilized in Arizona. This relocation idea hasn’t been thoroughly examined and no economic impact statement has been completed. BLM should immediately put the brakes on this misguided proposal.”
