·       Congressman Matt Salmon: As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, I have the responsibility to monitor the State Department’s budgetary allocations in this region of the world.  To better understand where our priorities should be, I’ve spent the past months meeting with State Department officials as well as ambassadors and dignitaries from several Asia-Pacific nations to discuss how the United States can be a friend and ally in the region's economic and political growth.

·       Last week, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar introduced a bill to prohibit members of Congress from flying first-class using taxpayer funds. The bipartisan legislation titled the Coach-Only Airfare for Capitol Hill Act (COACH) would prohibit members of Congress from using official funds known as Member Representational Allowance (MRA) to purchase first-class airline tickets while traveling for official Congressional duties.

ü  Town Hall: “When's the last time you flew first class? Did you know that lawmakers on Capitol Hill do it all the time and pay for it using money from your hard earned paycheck? …Congressman Paul Gosar (R-AZ) has tried to close the loophole that allows Congress to use taxpayer money to pay for first class flights back to their districts. Now, along with Rep. Raul Ruiz (D-CA) and 14 other co-sponsors, Gosar has introduced bipartisan legislation banning the practice.”

ü  The Hill: “Each lawmaker is allotted funds known as a Member Representational Allowance to pay for running their offices, including staff salaries and office supplies. The bill from Gosar and Ruiz, titled the Coach-Only Airfare for Capitol Hill (COACH) Act, would mandate that lawmakers and staffers can only fly first-class with personal funds. It would permit exceptions for first-class travel to accommodate disabilities or other medical needs.”

ü  WND: “Lawmakers from both parties are pressing forward with a bill to bar members of Congress from using tax dollars to pay for first-class flights. In joint statements, Reps. Raul Ruiz, D-Calif., and Paul Gosar, R-Arizona, called the luxury travel “especially wasteful.”

·       RNC Chairman Reince on the April jobs report: “We're glad some Americans found work last month, but if you’re a mom or dad who’s been looking for a job month after month, this report just isn’t good enough for you,” said Priebus. “If you’re one of the millions of Americans working part time because there aren’t enough full-time jobs, then the Obama economy isn’t growing fast enough for you.
From those who have dropped out of the labor force to those who can’t find enough work to pay the bills, this economy has left behind too many everyday Americans. There is still a long way to go, and there’s little evidence that the Obama or Clinton economic agendas will get us there.
“We need leaders who have a clear-eyed understanding of the frustrations of average Americans. The Clintons, however, think you can own two homes and be ‘dead broke.’ They think they’re earning 'almost no capital gains' when they make $371,000 off of investments. And they think earning half a million dollars from a Russian oligarch for a single speech is just ‘paying the bills.’ Americans who are out of work can’t trust a leader who is that out of touch. Hillary Clinton is not the answer to what still ails our economy.”

·       Constitution Expert Alan Korwin: The "state paper" paper took a very delicate stance today. In today's Arizona Republican editorial, "Baiting Didn't Justify Attack" (5/5/15), you attacked the American Freedom Defense Initiative for displaying art in Texas that Muslim fanatics worldwide want censored in America. Using vile derogatory language, you assailed these patriotic defenders of the First Amendment -- which you would like us to believe you are. Bowing to an unholy demand for censorship, and caving in to the risks that serious free expression represents, you wrote, "There are better ways to make the point" -- than AFDI's obviously dangerous display... of artworks. Oh yeah? Name it. Prove you're not the sympathizing quislings you've inadvertently made yourselves out to be and publish a bunch of the 200 cartoons in the paper -- the good ones. Don't let planet Earth's greatest enemies tell the great Arizona Republic what to publish.

·       Congresswoman  Martha McSally yesterday returned from leading a Congressional Delegation trip to the Middle East and Afghanistan, where she and a group of women lawmakers met with U.S. service members and deployed Department of Defense mothers and received mission briefings on our military operations in the region. The group also met with Afghan Women Parliamentarians and Civil Society leaders as well as Mrs. Ghani, wife of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. “Being over there, we were reminded that every day our deployed service members make sacrifices for our safety and security at home,” said McSally. “We heard about the serious threats to us and our allies from ISIS terrorists and Taliban insurgents and saw how our forces are assisting in these fights, including an A-10 squadron. It was especially rewarding to meet some of our deployed Airmen from Davis-Monthan and deliver Mother’s Day cards written by local students. When you’re deployed, you often sacrifice holidays and spending time with family to carry out your duty, so this was a nice way to say “thank you” for all that they do.” She met 1st Lieutenant Stephanie Edson, who’s deployed from Davis-Monthan (DM). The Congressional Delegation traveled to Qatar, Afghanistan, and southwest Asia. In addition to sharing meals with service members and deployed Department of Defense mothers, the Congresswomen heard briefings on the latest in our fight against ISIS (Operation Inherent Resolve) from the Joint Task Force Commander and Air Component Commander. They also received briefings about our ongoing operations in Afghanistan (Operation Resolute Support) from General John Campbell, Commander of U.S. Forces in Afghanistan, and U.S. embassy leadership. They meet with women of the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing and Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Central Command, Airmen from the 55th Electronic Combat Group from DM. She  delivered Mother’s Day cards written by students from Ventana Vista Elementary and White Elementary School in Tucson. See trip photos click HERE.
