·       This Morning AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham criticized the 5-4 majority decision of the United States Supreme Court in Arizona State Legislature v. Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission. The Commission was created in 1998 by a voter initiative to prevent the legislature from changing district lines when required by changes in population. But rather than having maps drawn by legislators who are elected to two-year terms, the maps are drawn by members of the Commission who are appointed to ten year terms.

“It is baffling that the majority on the Supreme Court is allowing a cure that’s worse than the disease,” said Graham. “If gerrymandering is such a problem, then frequent elections and accountability to voters is much better medicine than an unelected commission accountable to no one. We’re watching history in the making, unfortunately, as the Court disregards our constitutional principles and ignores the truth. It is no surprise that the unelected Court is siding with an unelected Commission, although I am encouraged by the irreverence of the dissents in this case, especially when calling the majority’s actions a ‘magic trick.’”

“As a party that unifies voters and nominates candidates, it is now more important than ever that we elect candidates who support constitutional principles and who will nominate and confirm judges that will uphold our Constitution. It is perfectly clear that the progressive left now dominates the courts and any potential scenario in which Hillary Clinton appoints justices must never happen. Never. That’s why we need Republicans to unite to stop the leftists from feeding our Constitution through the shredder and destroying our nation.”
