·       Gov Doug Ducey: “Today marks a solemn anniversary for the state of Arizona, as we remember the 19 brave men who gave their lives at Yarnell Hill two years ago.

“These elite Granite Mountain Hotshots represented the very best of our state and our nation. We’ll never forget their service, nor take for granted their sacrifice. Our thoughts and prayers are with them every day, and continue to be with their families, the entire Yarnell community and all of the firefighters and first responders who risk their lives every day. To perform an inherently dangerous job in selfless defense of others takes a rare form of courage. These men did it daily, willingly and without hesitation. They were heroes, and they will forever be remembered as such.

“In commemoration of this anniversary, and out of respect for our fallen 19, I have ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered from sunrise until sunset today,Tuesday, June 30, 2015.”

·       On The Second Anniversary Of The Yarnell Hill Fire, Arizona State Parks today purchased 320 acres of State Trust land near the site where 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots sacrificed their lives while battling one of the most devastating fires in Arizona’s history. This site is now the Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park. “This site will serve as a lasting memorial to the brave hotshots who gave their lives to protect their community,” said Governor Doug Ducey. “While we can never truly repay our debt to these heroes, we can – and should – honor them every day.  Arizona is proud to offer the public a space where we can pay tribute to them, their families and all of our firefighters and first responders for generations to come.” The purchase was funded by a $500,000 legislative appropriation resulting from HB 2624, the 2014 bill championed by Senator Steve Pierce and Representative Karen Fann. The bill also established the Yarnell Hill Memorial Site Board, which consists of the following members: Arizona State Parks Executive Director Sue Black (Chairman); Senator Steve Pierce; Representative Karen Fann; State Forester Jeff Whitney; John Flynn; Dan Fraijo; Prescott Mayor Marlin Kuykendall; Amanda Marsh; Brendan McDonough; Lenora Nelson; Fire Chief Ben Palm; Retired Fire Chief Darrell Willis; Yavapai County Supervisor Rowle Simmons; Chuck Tidey; and Aaron Green.

·       LD27 Activist Art Olivas hasn’t stopped zinging AZGOP Robert Graham all week. The feisty Olivas doesn’t back off when he thinks the hierarchy is going astray.

·       Senator Ted Cruz: "We've seen regimes across the face of the earth come and take away people’s guns, strip away their rights to defend themselves and sometimes it's been very popular. And yet it is an inevitable prelude to tyranny. The Second Amendment is... also there as a fundamental check on government tyranny and that ultimately is not subject to public opinion polls; it’s subject to the express protections of the Bill of Rights of the Constitution."

·       LD5 Sen Kelli Ward: What’s the deal with John McCain and Hillary Clinton? In a recent campaign interview, Hillary Clinton said she worked well with John McCain on so-called “global warming.” And last year, Hillary told ABC News that John McCain was her favorite Republican. You and I shouldn’t be so surprised. Hillary and McCain agree on many of the fundamental issues. That’s why John McCain needs to go. We don’t need more Senators agreeing with the Hillary Clinton/Barack Obama agenda. We need a Senator who will stand up and fight. Here’s why John McCain is Hillary’s favorite Republican: they agree on “global warming,” amnesty and welfare for illegal aliens, more taxes, more spending, and more ObamaCare. And that’s also why McCain said he would be “proud” to work with a President Hillary Clinton. John McCain has been in Washington so long, he’s forgotten his values and who he’s supposed to represent. It’s bad enough with Obama and McCain. We can’t afford Hillary and McCain! replace McCain

·       Alan Korwin: New Arizona Gun Laws On July 3.   We had the shortest legislative session since 1968, but it still kept gun-rights activists busy. All the bad bills were killed, but some very important good ones died as well. We saw 27 gun-related bills in all. A total of 1,163 bills were introduced and 344 were sent to Gov. Doug Ducey. He signed all but 20 of them. Arizona's gun laws grow slightly on July 3, and the new laws are now linked and explained in detail on the yellow Updates & Position Papers page LINK. The preliminary count shows 165 new words, and that's largely because a small changes brings a new statute into the gun-law list. In summary: 1- Hunting guides can carry any type of legal firearm; 2- You can't harass hunters and get a hunting license; 3- Preemption statute is tightened; 4- Ability to restore lost firearm rights is expanded slightly; 5- Ballot-initiative procedures are tightened to protect against abuse. Some important bills were lost this year, due to the short session, plus a less than vigorous effort on the part of some legislators, and outside dark money flooding the state to restrict and infringe on the rights to arms we currently enjoy in this state. That conflict will heat up as we approach the 2016 elections, with plans already announced to target Arizona specifically -- by former NY mayor Mike Bloomberg, who has more money than some states have in their annual budgets. Will our governor Doug Ducey stand up to him?

·       Congresswoman Martha McSally today in a letter called on U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske to explain the next steps needed to advance a proposed expansion of the Douglas Port of Entry. The Port accounts for nearly $4 billion in trade through two-way truck traffic, which has grown by 5% a year since 2010. Rep. McSally has consistently met with city and local leaders and Port officials about the need to expand the Port, allowing for increased trade and economic activity in Douglas.  “The City of Douglas, Arizona, in my district, has been attempting to secure the approval of a new Commercial Port of Entry with your Department since 2012,” said Rep. McSally in the letter. “In coordination with the Municipality of Agua Prieta, Sonora, Mexico, the City of Douglas requires an expansion of their commercial port as a way of harnessing economic opportunities, bolstering trade, and furthering Customs and Border Protections’ mission and ability to provide security… I write today to ask that you inform me and representatives from the City of Douglas as to how they take the next step in this vital project.” See letter  HERE.
