·       Something Smells Bad In The AZGOP Resolutions Committee   … “What is going on with the State Resolutions Committee in the Republican party and why were nearly all of the Resolutions submitted for consideration for presentation at the State Republican Party Meeting on January 24 thrown out?  If you sent in a Resolution for consideration after December 15th, you can kiss that baby goodbye.  Yes, even if you followed the instructions given to you!”

·       Attention MCRC and AZGOP Officer Candidates: Briefs will be posting reader submitted questions for the MCRC and AZGOP officer candidates who are running for election at the Mandatory January meetings. Officer candidates are asked to respond in 300 words or less.  Candidate answers are posted in the What The Candidates Are Saying section. Please keep to the issues.  Respond to repcomm@cox.net or frostytaylor@cox.net   Questions:

1.      What are your qualifications to serve in the position you are running for?

2.     What are your goals, if elected?

3.     Arizona was one of only four states not to achieve an increase in Republican Legislators in 2014 despite the Republican wave across the nation. How do you plan to get more AZ Republican legislators elected?

4.     Precinct Committeeman numbers have DECLINED 30% in the past two years. How do you plan to increase the PC count?

5.     How would you go about closing the Primary to allow only GOP voters to vote? And what resources (funds, manpower) would you use to close primaries?

6.     Are you for or against amnesty?

7.     How do you feel about “dark money” (out of state funded PACs) coming into AZ to influence elections?

8.     Will you carry out the Censure of Sen John McCain?  McCain was censured “for his continued disservice to our State and Nation” in Jan 2014 by the GOP State Committeemen, Maricopa County Republicans PCs, plus  several outlaying counties  “…until he consistently champions our Party’s Platform, we, the Republican leadership in Arizona will no longer support, campaign for or endorse John McCain as our U.S. Senator.”

9.     Do you support reported attempts to remove conservative PCs from leadership roles?

·       ATTN: MCRC PCs - The Call letter  for the Maricopa County Republican Committee Statutory Meeting has been sent out with the ARIZONA REPUBLICAN PARTY return address as in the previous year. Please look for this in your mail. (MCRC pays the State party for the bulk rate postage they have in place as this is a savings to the MCRC ,as a courtesy from the AZGOP) Thank you --April Riggins, 1st Vice Chairman. Maricopa County Republican Committee.

·       Talk Show Host and Former Sen Russell Pearce: “I cannot help but respond to the anti-law rhetoric in the Yellow Sheet about "dreamers" and driver's licenses that clearly state "Non-Citizens".  Miranda's statements that it would make them 3rd class citizens!!!  News Flash, they are NOT citizens at all.  The state is in violation of the law to issue the license to them.  The courts have made a clear "Unconstitutional" ruling ordering Arizona to issue driver's licenses to "illegal" aliens.  It is a violation of ARS and it is a violation of the 10th Amendment.   It is an Arizona driver's license not a federal license;  and Arizona law in harmony with federal law prohibits the issuance of any state issued ID to those in the country illegally, period.  This is tantamount granting amnesty.   The state of Arizona has the authority and the duty to refuse this Unconstitutional court order. – Russell Pearce

·       The Verde Valley Republican Women's Luncheon is scheduled at 11 am, Jan 21 at the Sedona Rouge Hotel and Spa, 2250 Hwy 89A, Sedona, AZ Cost:  $17. RSVP:  Erna Sesek (928) 284-4248 or Sesek@q.com

·       Justice Sandra Day O’Connor administered the oath of office to newly elected Arizona Corporation Commissioners Doug Little and Tom Forese today.  “Arizonans are lucky to be served by Commissioners Forese and Little, and it will be a privilege to spend the remainder of my term working with them,” said Chairman Bob Stump. “I am confident they will work diligently and honorably to discern what is in the public interest.”  Little and Forese join Stump, Bob Burns and Susan Bitter Smith who continue to serve their terms.

·       Susan Bitter Smith Was Elected The Chair Of The Arizona Corporation Commission today, following a swearing-in ceremony for newly elected commissioners Doug Little and Tom Forese. Bitter Smith was elected to the Commission in 2012 and her term as Chair will be two years.  “I am so very pleased to pass the gavel to one of Arizona’s keenest policy minds, my friend Susan Bitter Smith,” said outgoing Chairman Bob Stump. “The Commission will be in good hands.” A native of Arizona, Bitter Smith has served as a member of the Scottsdale City Council and was Vice Mayor. She served two six-year terms as an elected member of the Central Arizona Water Conservation District Board of Directors, having served the last four as President of the Board (the first woman to hold this position. She is a founding member of “Women in Water”, a local group of women involved in water policy. Bitter Smith has served as Executive Director of the Southwest Cable Communications Association since 1980 and as Vice President of Technical Solutions since 1988. She earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Business Administration from Arizona State University and is a Past Chairman of the ASU Alumni Association.

·       Sen John McCain Congratulated new Arizona Governor Doug Ducey on his inauguration today and thanking Governor Jan Brewer for her years of public service to the state: “I congratulate Doug Ducey on his inauguration today as Arizona’s 23rd governor. Governor Ducey was elected in November on a positive agenda, with the firm belief that our state’s best days are ahead of us if we work together to address the challenges we face. I wish him all the best as he gets to work this week.

“I thank my dear friend Governor Jan Brewer for her years of outstanding service to the State of Arizona. First entering public service as a mother concerned about the workings of her local school board, Governor Brewer has served with distinction at virtually every level of state and local government over the last three decades. Governor Brewer has always been a great champion for our state, and I wish her well in her future endeavors.”

·       Sen John McCain On The Syrian Regime’s complaint to the United Nations regarding McCain’s visit with Syrian rebels last year: “It is a sad but unsurprising truth that the Assad regime is less concerned with its massacre of more than 200,000 men, women and children than it is my visit with those brave Syrians fighting for their freedom and dignity. The fact that the international community has done virtually nothing to bring down this terrible regime despite its atrocities is a stain on our collective moral conscience.”

·       Andrew Costanzo, MCRC 2nd Vice-Chair CandidateResponse to question #5:  How would you go about closing the Primary to allow only GOP voters to vote? And what resources (funds, manpower) would you use to close primaries? Courtesy of the Libertarian Party, who successfully sued to have their primary closed, the legal precedent already exists for closing the a respective party’s primary in Arizona.  I would support any necessary legal action to achieve closed Republican Primary Elections in Arizona.   Republicans should be the only voters allowed to decide who may move forward through the primary process; otherwise we will continue to have candidates who do not support the Republican Party Platform as our standard bearer.  I believe that an ancillary benefit of closed primary would be fewer candidates, as some candidates are counting on the moderate and phony independent vote to catapult them to the top.  I am not suggesting that a Republican who wants to run  should be prevented from doing so -  as is the practice of the Democrats, - but I’m sure that most of you know how many of the fringe candidates get on the primary ballot without support of the Republican Party and the PCs.  They hire paid circulators to collect their nomination petition signatures as they do not have the support required to do so with Republican volunteers.   Additionally, as independents may vote in our primary, they are also allowed to sign the nomination petition signatures to decide who may run as a Republican.  This purview should be that of Republicans and Republicans alone. – Andy Costanzo, MCRC Second Vice Chair Candidate
480 677-0697.

·       Aaron Borders, MCRC 2nd  Vice-Chair Candidate - Responds to question #1: What are your qualifications to serve in the position you are running for?   It is important when answering this question to understand what the job of 2nd VC is. Most see this job as “place holder position” in the MCRC By-laws it states that one of the jobs is to be a liaison between MCRC and the Republican clubs in our county. I believe this is an extremely important job.Since I was 9 yrs old, I was volunteering and working for the Republican Party. I played an active role in GOTV in Local, State and National elections, I developed and honed skills of how to organize and motivate grass roots Republicans to get out the vote and to recruit Conservatives to the party. In the private sector I was one of the founders and currently set on the West Valley Youth Sports Commission board. I also was a past Recruiting Chair in West Valley NAIFA. I have a proven and solid history of building and successfully growing organizations. In the most recent past I was a candidate for the State House in LD 29. This district has close to 30,000 democrats and 14,500 Republicans. With my leadership in my race in a district that all counted out, on election night we lost by 403 votes and the best part; under my leadership during my campaign for the house I recruited 21 new PCs. With this record of leadership, I feel I bring a unique skillset to the MCRC. Please go to my web site at www.AaronBorders.us  and you will learn much more about me and those who support me.

·       Tom Morrissey, MCRC Chairman Candidate  Response to Question #4:   Precinct Committeeman numbers have DECLINED 30% in the past two years. How do you plan to increase the PC count? What will I do to help build the number of conservative PCs?  I will work with all LD Chairs in a coordinated effort to effectively recruit not just precinct committeemen but rather, motivated individuals who are willing to perform the duties of the job.  It is paramount that our message is delivered to perspective PCs in such a way that they KNOW we can be trusted once again as a party. We will stand on our platform, follow the Constitution and act with principle and character as the party leaders we all are.  I will provide uniform training materials and more importantly, consistent messaging. We will be the example of who we say we are and what we believe in.  This has to be a team effort. My commitment is to work closely with the LD Chairs and other members of the party to accomplish this task. I believe it is up to us to go out and find patriots among us. I would challenge each current PC to find one new member (the PLUS ONE plan) and thereby double our size. I will make certain that every LD Chair will have the resources to get this done. In biblical times, when Apostle Paul went about the land talking to the masses about the Lord, he was called a crazy person.  A madman.  His response to those charges was, “Come join the new madness.”  So I say to you fellow PCs why not try doing the same?  The left calls us crazies, so why not claim the title and urge one and all to “come and join the new madness”?  Conservatism, the only hope for America.

·       Aaron Borders, MCRC 2nd  Vice-Chair Candidate - Responds to question #2: What are your goals, if elected. I must spell out what the job of the 2nd VC of the MCRC is. According to the by-laws, the duties of the MCRC Second Vice-Chairman shall be to:
 1. Perform duties as may be assigned by the MCRC Chairman or the Bylaws of the MCRC
2. Perform the duties of the MCRC Chairman during as absence of the MCRC Chairman and the First Vice- Chairman
3. Be the liaison officer for the MCRC to the various Republican Clubs in Maricopa County.

I believe that the 3rd  job spelled out in the by-laws is the most   important and I intend to take that job to a level the MCRC has never seen.

1. Have a cohesive plan that is easily executed for each and every Republican club and LD.

      (a) For LDs to recruit and fill ALL Precinct Committeeman seats.

      (b) Work with Republican clubs to build relationships with the     leadership and members of the LD that the club is in.

2. Work with Republican clubs and LDs to recruit folks into the Republican Party.

     (a) Help build relationships between the Republican clubs and the surrounding community. (b) Equip LDs with the tools to identify Independent Conservatives and bring them back to the party.

3. When we properly execute the prior two goals, the last goal will be much easier to accomplish.

      (a) Mobilize to win for 2016 (b) work together AND WIN in 2016.

·       Andrew Costanzo, MCRC 2nd Vice-Chair CandidateResponse to question #6 : Are you for or against amnesty?  I am 100% against amnesty.  We are a nation of laws, a republic, not a nation of men, a democracy.  It is tragic that our Federal Government favors the interests of criminals who have illegally entered or have overstayed in our country to the interests of the citizens.  Amnesty is a slap in the face to every naturalized American who legally followed the law to become a citizen.  Through simple supply and demand, amnesty and illegal immigration depresses wages of US citizens, hurting those who are at the lowest end of the wage scale the most.  Amnesty and illegal immigration weakens innovation and automation.  Why should new processes and time saving investments be developed and implemented if artificially cheap labor exists?  - -Andrew Costanzo, MCRC Second Vice Chair Candidate    480-677-0697.

·       Andrew Costanzo, MCRC 2nd Vice-Chair CandidateResponse to question #7: How do you feel about “dark money” coming into AZ to influence elections?  I think that our First Amendment is sacrosanct.  In the 2014 election cycle I wanted my voice heard in elections in other states, so I contributed to some candidates who share my ideals.  The election results from these elections in other states impacts my degree of liberty.  I am within my right as a citizen of our Republic to have my voice heard; my money is my speech.   In the next election cycle I may, for example, financially assist the Republican who is running against Harry Reid in Nevada.  Maintaining the legal limits, I would not violate any campaign law even though I do not live in Nevada.  Would my money then be “dark money”?   I do not think so.   I may donate to the Senate Conservatives Fund and allow them to voice my opinion in races in other states.  With such a fund, I may contribute large amounts of money, but it would be my hard earned money and I may dispose of my money as I justify.  I think that my money, which is my speech, is as good as the money of any other.  Money, when lawfully earned, is not dark, light, good or bad, it is simply a tool.  I may not agree with the speech of others, but I will not deny any American their right to voice their opinion.  We certainly don’t need more laws restricting American citizens and if you are unhappy that you don’t have as much money as the next person, there is no law preventing you from earning more. -- Andrew Costanzo, MCRC Second Vice Chair Candidate  480 677-0697
