7-12-15 Briefs

Republican Briefs
Briefs Editor   Frosty Taylor
Web Master   John Strasser
Sunday, July 12,  2015
  • Hang in there folks.  Briefs postings have been sparse the past few day due to family commitments.  Things will get back to normal in a few more days.
  • The grand opening of the  new Maricopa County Republicans is scheduled at 10 am., July 13 at  3030 South Rural Road, Suite 105, Tempe, Arizona 85282. Open house until 4 pm. Open to the public.

·         Rep. Matt Salmon Has Announced The Eighth Shrink our Spending Initiative bill focused on highlighting and cutting wasteful, taxpayer-funded programs. Upon introduction of his latest bill to eliminate federal funding for Voice of America, Salmon released the following statement: “My eighth SOS bill is aimed at cutting yet another duplicative, federal program and saving you 212 million dollars by doing so.  While originally commissioned to provide a ‘clear and effective presentation’ of U.S. policy, Voice of America (VOA) has veered from its original mission and become a government-funded news outlet.  The United States already funds organizations that disseminate unfiltered news to regions of the world that lack a free press. Technology has also rendered Cold War relics, such as VOA, obsolete.  The rise of the Internet and social media, especially in closed countries have connected the world in ways we could have never imagined, and with their success, and other U.S. taxpayer-funded broadcasting programs, it makes fiscal sense to eliminate this superfluous, federally-funded entity.”

·         LD5 Sen Kelli Ward: As you know, for the past few months I’ve been considering a run for the U.S. Senate against liberal John McCain. I’ve been truly honored and humbled by all the encouragement and support I’ve gotten from tens of thousands of Arizonans like you who want fresh, courageous new leadership. The status quo and the politics of the past aren’t working for Arizona or America. Weak-kneed establishment Republicans have gone along with the Obama agenda, and the conservatives in Congress have begged us to send them reinforcements. That’s why I’m reaching out to you with some exciting news. I want to let you know that I’m holding a major event to announce my future plans next Tuesday, July 14 at 5pm at the Shugrue’s Bridgeview Rm., 1425 McCulloch Blvd, Lake Havasu City AZ 86403 This event is open to the public, and all are welcome! I would love to see you there. RSVP here

·         Former LD9 Chairman Ray Spitzer: There are a couple of things we should focus on.
1.      It is acknowledged that over 4 million Americans are ADDICTED to marijuana.
2.      Obama wants legalization and so has given a $3 million grant to discover drugs to help the marijuana addicts.
I've said this often; I spent 400 hours studying the pharmacology and psychology of drugs and alcohol while in the military and was certified as a drug and alcohol education specialist.  There are have numerous scientific studies released that showed that regular use of marijuana causes a loss of up to 10 IQ points, loss of short term memory, increasing lethargy, and contains many of the same carcinogens that are contained in cigarettes. There is NO, repeat, there is NO medicine in marijuana.  It is a class #1 federal narcotic.  Arizonans got fooled when they approved medical marijuana, and will have the opportunity to be fooled again in 2016 when recreational use of marijuana is on the ballot.Obama wants it legalized so as to make Americans more lethargic, more susceptible to government control.  Wake up.
