· Congressman Paul A. Gosar -- after circulating a Dear Colleague letter to Members of the U.S. House of Representatives in which he urged them to cosponsor his legislation which calls for the impeachment of Regina McCarthy, Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), for high crimes and misdemeanors: “Perjury before Congress is perjury to the American people and an affront to the fundamental principles of our Republic and the rule of law. Such behavior cannot be tolerated. My legislation will hold Administrator McCarthy accountable for her blatant deceptions and unlawful conduct. “Under Administrator McCarthy’s direction, the EPA continues to enact job-killing regulations that increase food prices and energy costs for hard-working American families. Hundreds of thousands of jobs will be lost as a result of these new mandates, which disproportionately impact the poor. This should be concerning enough, but to make matters worse, these regulations are not based on science and are being imposed through lies to Congress and the American people. We must hold D.C. bureaucrats accountable when they commit perjury or make false statements in order to implement President Obama’s misguided agenda.” preliminary text of Congressman Gosar’s legislation HERE
· Last Night, The Lake Havasu City Council passed a Resolution (No. 15-2986) in support of legislation introduced by Senator John McCain and Congressman Paul Gosar in July that would ensure justice for “downwinders,” or victims of radiation as a result of nuclear weapons testing at the nearby Nevada Nuclear Test Site during the Cold War. The McCain/Gosar bill would add Mohave County, Arizona to the list of counties eligible for federal compensation under the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA), which compensates victims or survivors of certain cancers caused by “down wind” fallout of atmospheric nuclear weapons testing during the 1950s and 1960s. Under the law, eligibility is limited to individuals who can prove their physical presence in one of several impacted counties. Despite being located close to the Nevada Nuclear Test Site, RECA does not extend eligibility to all of Mohave County, but just to citizens living in the area north of the Grand Canyon, known as the “Arizona Strip.” See resolution below:
RESOLUTION NO. 15-2986
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF LAKE HAVASU CITY,
MOHAVE COUNTY, ARIZONA, SUPPORTING CONGRESSMAN GOSAR AND
SENATOR MCCAIN'S BIPARTISAN BILLS TO ENSURE JUSTICE FOR
DOWNWINDERS EXPOSED TO GOVERNMENT RADIATION TESTING
During the 1940s through the 1960s, the United States government conducted nearly 200 atmospheric weapons development tests as part of our nation's Cold War security strategy. In 1951, nuclear weapons testing began at a site known as the Nevada Proving Grounds, located approximately 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas. In 1990, Congress passed the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act ("RECA") to compensate individuals – commonly referred to as "Downwinders" - who contracted certain cancers and diseases attributed to radiation exposure from nuclear weapons testing.
There are boundary flaws with RECA that prevent otherwise eligible individuals that
reside in counties in close proximity to testing grounds from receiving compensation for no
logical reason- including individuals in Mohave County, Arizona.
Congressman Gosar's Bill H.R. 3345 and Senator McCain's Bill S. 1895 propose to
amend RECA to expand the eligibility boundaries.
IT IS RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council of Lake Havasu City, Arizona,
support Congressman Gosar and Senator McCain's Bipartisan Bills to ensure justice for
downwinders exposed to government radiation testing.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, on
September 8, 2015. - Signed by Mayor Mark S Nexsen
· This Afternoon Chairman Robert Graham of the Arizona Republican Party added to the widespread criticism of President Obama’s foreign policy failures and reminded Arizona voters that Ann Kirkpatrick, an Arizona Democrat vying for a U.S. Senate seat, is a poor leader who does not reflect the views of the constituents she seeks to represent. “This is not just another typical occasion of support for Obama’s ongoing failures by Ann Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick is fully undermining Arizona’s top leaders, all of whom have been elected in statewide elections, and who are determined to stop state-sanctioned terrorism in Iran and end Iran’s potential for a massive nuclear arsenal,” said Graham. “This is a serious international crisis and Ann Kirkpatrick is joining the surrender of American priorities and capitulation to Iran’s demand to end economic sanctions, handing them billions of dollars that can be used renew their violence against American interests.” Senator McCain’s floor speech from today opposing the Iran Nuclear Agreement is here. Video of McCain on Senate floor is here. Senator Flake’s statement is here. Also today Governor Doug Ducey joined 15 state governors voicing their opposition to the Iran deal. · National Republican Committeeman Bruce Ash: I don't have to tell you about the decline Tucson has been in over the past decade. We see how tough things have become in the city we love. Lack of plentiful good jobs, diminished law enforcement presence, bad roads, growing poverty - so many of our neighbors beset by problems. The only thing which can reverse the slide is new city leadership - and if we don't succeed in the current election we might not have another chance anytime soon. Tucson has been a wonderful city to grow up, live and work in but we face problems which the three Democrat incumbents (Romero, Scott and Cunningham) have been unable to solve. With our city at such an important crossroad this is a critical time is why I must appeal to all my friends and colleagues to support ($10) to three extraordinary candidates for the Tucson City Council - Kelly Lawton, Bill Hunt and Margaret Burkholder. Your help will make a huge difference in this election because your gift will be matched in kind with city matching funds. Even if you don't live in the city please give now because once our candidates qualify for the match, the city will match your gift. Kelly is an educator and the director of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Tucson. Bill is an engineer with Raytheon and active in humanitarian projects. Margaret is a certified Arizona Master Teacher and member of the Vail School Board who helped lead her school district from mediocre to best-in-state last year. Please go to http://tucsonwins.com/.
