·       The Establishment Wants To Get Rid Of Donald Trump  by Marilyn M. Barnewall.  “This 2016 pre-election season with 17 Republican candidates (now 16 with the withdrawal of former Texas Governor Rick Perry) is specifically designed to give the Republicans another loser: Jeb Bush.”

·       Supt of Public Instruction Diane Douglas regarding her decision not to attend the State Board of Education (SBE) special meeting scheduled to take place at 2 p.m.  “Unfortunately, State Board of Education President Greg Miller has turned SBE meetings into spectacles that do nothing but harm our education system. He continues to release agendas never seen until right before the mandatory 24 hour posting deadline. These frequently include items never discussed for inclusion that have no purpose but to incite conflict and create billable hours for his attorneys.

“Unable to control his temper at any disagreement, he has become focused on using seating assignments and mute buttons to suppress all opposing views. Mr. Miller has changed the SBE from a deliberative body interested in the welfare of our children to a bi-monthly publicity stunt used to advance his own agenda.

“It is disappointing that while he is already under investigation for an assault charge stemming from an incident at a previous SBE meeting, Mr. Miller finds it impossible to control his temper without dictating where people sit and being able to turn off the microphone or yank it away if he disagrees.

“The real legal issues will be decided in the courts, not by a non-elected political appointee wishing to usurp the powers of a duly elected Constitutional Officer. I continue to focus all my energy and efforts on improving a needy Arizona education system and helping our children excel, not on playing games. I take my Oath of Office sworn on the Bible seriously, and will not violate the law simply because he wishes me to.”

·       Steve Chucri, chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, today filed for re-election to a second term in District 2. Throughout his first term, Chucri has kept the commitments he made on the campaign trail, including improving government communication, fiscal reforms and applying best-in-class business principles to government, as well as providing conservative leadership and transparency. He has produced real results by cutting through government bureaucracy and red tape.

“Over my first term, I’ve applied private-sector principles and conservative leadership to Maricopa County and we’ve seen success and benefits for the taxpayer,” Chucri said. “I’ve maintained open lines of communication – whether with constituents, the business community or other municipal entities – and provided proactive and taxpayer-centered services that saved dollars and time. I look forward to getting back on the campaign trail to hear more ideas about how I can better serve Maricopa County residents in my next term.”

Some of Chucri’s first-term accomplishments include:

ü  Process improvements at all departments to enhance the customer service experience at the county, including: reducing a 43-page dust permit application to seven pages, and putting it online for easier accessibility; and streamlining zoning regulations that support private property rights.

ü  Improved communication between governments that activated partnerships for flood control and transportation projects, STEM programs at libraries, enhancements to Arizona 211 program and the Marc Center.

ü  Implemented county-level personnel reform, reduced employee merit protections and eliminated outdated policies.

ü  Made board meetings available online.

ü  Focused county budgets to reflect needs, not wants.

“My record of service will serve as the foundation for my next term,” Chucri said. “I’ve seen firsthand the need for fresh, business-minded perspectives in local government, and there’s so much more we can, and will, do to make sure Maricopa County continues to be one of the best run counties in the country.”
