Friday – Dec 11, 2015

Quick note from John –
Hi Folks Things are starting to look a little shabby around here and it’s my fault.  I started making some changes and then got sick right in the middle of it all.  Things will be cleaned up soon. Sorry for the confusion. - JJS

·         Your Dec 10, 2015 Briefs is posted at 2015/12/12-10-15-briefs. Those pesky Cyber Gremlins prevented posting it Thursday night but webmaster John Strasser is hot on their trail. Sorry for the inconvenience. – Editor Frosty Taylor

·         Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump will host a campaign rally at noon, Wed., Dec 16 in a private hangar at the Phoenix–Mesa Gateway Airport. Trump's rally will be one day after the Republican debate in Las Vegas. Doors open at 10 am. Personal carry-in items limited. Tickets available HERE. Contact: Trump's website

·         Congratulations to Congressman David Schweikert and his wife Joyce on their new daughter Olivia Lee.  May she bring you a lifetime of  happiness.  It seems like only yesterday that David walked into my newspaper office in the early 1980s and informed me that he was running for public office. He’s been on the move ever since.– FT

·         The Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission is meeting at 5:15 pm., Mon., Dec 14 in its new offices at 4000 N Central Ave. #1150, Phoenix, AZ 85012. This meeting will not be streamed online (no live meeting).  Agenda Info

·         Secretary of State Michele Reagan will draw the ballot order for Arizona's Presidential Preference Election (PPE) at 10 am, Tues., Dec 15 in the House Chamber 3rd floor of the state museum at the state capitol.  The order of names will be determined by the random selection of jumbled ping pong balls dispensed from an Arizona Lottery machine with candidate’s names printed on them.
The PPE is when  registered voters of participating, recognized political parties cast their vote for who they prefer the Arizona delegates cast their vote for at their party's national convention. The 2016 PPE will be held on March 22, 2016, with a registration deadline of February 22, 2016. For a current listing of candidates, please visit http://bit.ly/1MxJf7k.
Arizona’s “open primary” provisions do not apply to the Presidential Preference Election. In order to cast a ballot in the March 22 election, “independents” must be registered with a political party by February 22, 2016.

·         GOP US Senate Candidate Dr Kelli Ward isn’t the only female determined to take down incumbent Sen John McCain. Breitbarts poll showed Ward ahead of McCain by nine points back in late August. Dem Senate candidate Ann Kirkpatrick is also going after McCain.  Her release today reads: “Even some Arizona Republicans agree -- when it comes to supporting a candidate for Senate, they want ‘anyone but McCain.’ It’s clear that people are unhappy with John McCain. Last month, a survey showed that McCain was the one of the most unpopular senators in the country. He also made Roll Call’s list of most vulnerable senators. While McCain is sinking further and further, Ann is gaining ground. A recent poll shows her just 6 points behind, and with your support, she’s closing in fast.”
“…It’s time for a new senator in Arizona -- even Republicans agree. Our state needs someone who is in touch with the needs of working families and who champions issues like health care, immigration reform, and job growth.” These gals are giving him a run for his money this time around.

·         Does John McCain Care More About Dead Boxers than Kids …“It's taken him at least 10 years on a long road of compromising to get a posthumous pardon for heavy weight champion Jack Johnson.  Finally, thanks to the S1177 Every Student Succeeds Act, McCain was able to get his Christmas wish.  He slipped it in on pages 914-918, under "SEC. 9206. POSTHUMOUS PARDON."  This has nothing to do with K-12 Education, or with what Senator McCain's constituents in Arizona want.  It has everything to do with what John McCain wants.”

·         The Pima GOP Presidential Debate Watch Party is scheduled at 7 pm, Tues., Dec 15 at Hot Rods - 10500 E Old Vail Road, Tucson. Contact:  (520) 321-1492hq@pimagop.org

·         Chairman Mark Sensmeier has appointed Pastor David Cota as the YCRC Chaplain and Dennis McGrane has agreed to be the Committee Parliamentarian.

·         The 2015 Arizona Capitol Christmas Tree Ornament is now available at the Arizona Captiol Museum Store.  See azcapitolgifts.com/.  The 2014 edition is now available for $3.95.  Shop open: M-F 9 am-4 pm., Sat, 10am-2 pm (Sept – May). 602-926-3620.

·         Yavapai County Republican Women have formed Arizona's Newest Republican Women's Club. The evening club was formed for women live primarily in Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, and Dewey- Humboldt area but are unable to attend mid-day meetings. They meet at 5 pm the second Thursday of each month. Starting January 14 they will meet at Stepping Stones in Prescott Valley. A Christmas Party and installation of officers was held Dec 10 with Speaker Rae Chornenky, immediate past President of National Federation of Republican Women and Arizona Federation of Women’s  president-elect Loraine Pellegrino, who installed the new officers.  Any registered Republican woman may belong to numerous Republican Women's Clubs as an associate member, but may belong to only ONE club as an active and voting member.

·         The 2016-17 Officers for the newly formed Yavapai County Republican Women are:
·         President - Patt Parker
·         First Vice - Kristine Hanson
·         2nd Vice - Sandra Laney
·         Secretary- Sarita Williams
·         Treasurer - Mary Williams

·         When The HWY 89 Republican Club from the west part of Yavapai County relocated, there was a need for a Republican club in Chino Valley.  So a new Republican Club has been established in accord with YAVGOP and registered with the AZ Sec. of State. Formed by Basin Precinct PC Ronald Godfrey, their meetings will begin in January 2016 with PC training by Godfrey and Linda Gray. As the group develops, more information will be announced. Contact Godfrey at ragodfrey@yahoo.com.

·         Arizona Republican Assembly (AzRA) Chairman Thayer Verschoor:   Graham supports Trump Plan - No Not Robert Graham -- Franklin Graham:  One day after Donald Trump’s moratorium on Muslim immigration, Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham, announced his support for Trump’s plan. Graham wrote: I have been saying for some time that Muslim immigration into the United States should be stopped until we can properly vet them or until the war with Islam is over. Donald J. Trump has been criticized by some for saying something similar. The new Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said yesterday that he disagrees—saying that “such views are not what this party stands for and more importantly it’s not what this country stands for.”
Center for Security Policy Poll: 51% of Muslims living in America believe they should have the choice of being governed according to sharia” instead of the Constitution; 29% (36% males under 45) support violence against those who insult Mohammad; 25% (29% males under 45) supports violence against America.
The Oath of Citizenship begins with: "I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic;
The overwhelming plurality or majority of Middle East Muslims brought in under Obama would make this statement with their fingers and toes crossed.  This is not about religion, but being an American, following our Constitution and assimilating into our society. It is decades past time to oppose political correctness as the cornerstone of our country and fight for American Values that include protecting the unique creation given to us by our Founding Fathers.

·         Congressman Matt Salmon after word was out that the U.S. Forest Service was abandoning plans to round up the Salt River Horses. “Wild horses are deeply intertwined with the history of the West.  Earlier this year, when the Forest Service threatened to impound an icon of Arizona history, I took action.   Joined by my Arizona colleagues, we pressured the Forest Service to delay the roundup and consult with the local management groups that already tirelessly work to protect these horses while not interfering with their lives.  I’m happy to see that the Forest Service is respecting both the horses that define Arizona and the will of the Arizonans who love them.”  Background:  In August, Rep. Salmon led a letter encouraging the Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service to consult with local stakeholders before beginning any impoundment of horses near Mesa, Ariz.  After promising to do so, and temporarily suspending plans for the roundup, the consultations bore no fruit.  Just days ago, Rep. Salmon led a second, bipartisan letter to the Forest Service again requesting their respect of Arizonans’ rights in light of the looming deadline.  Today, it was announced that the Forest Service is terminating plans for the roundup.

·         A Photo Floating Around The Net shows a group of senior citizens in wheels chairs with a caption that reads: How can our government instantly have money for 10,000 Syrian refuges… but had absolutely no money for a cost of living increase for social security and Medicare?  How fitting. Our senior citizens spent their entire lives working, paying into social security and striving to have a little nest egg to survive on in their “winter” years… Instead of providing some relief for our own, the government is pouring millions into foreign aid and paying living expenses for refugees who haven’t contributed a dime.
