HAPPY NEW YEAR

Gov Doug Ducey has appointed former Speaker of the House Andy Tobin to fill the rest of Susan Bitter Smith’s term ( through 2016) on the Arizona Corporation Commission. Commission Chairman Bitter Smith resigned Dec. 17 - effective Mon, Jan 4 - due to conflict of interest allegations, which she denies.
Tobin has played music chairs for Ducey since losing the 2014 Congressional District One race. Since the first of this year, Tobin has been appointed director of the Arizona Department of Weights and Measures. In October he was moved to director of Arizona Department of Insurance and a couple of weeks ago he was named interim director of the Arizona Department of Financial Institutions.  He leaves these top gun positions to take the commission seat, dropping his salary to $80,000 a year. andy-tobins-wild-salary-ride-in-2015
Three of the five commission seats are up for election in 2016. Commissioner Bob Stump is terming out. Commissioner Robert Burns is up for re-election.
This week  Doug Little was named temporary Corporation Commission chairman A commission chair will be elected in the near future.

Free tickets to Headlines Live are available at headlines-live-governor-doug-ducey for the 6:30 pm., Jan 6 production scheduled at 2828 N Central Ave., Phoenix.  Hear Gov Doug Ducey chat with Arizona Republican reporter Yvonne Wingett Sanchez as he reflects over the past year and prepares for the upcoming legislative session. A Q&A with Guv follows the session. Light snacks and beer and wine available for purchase. Tickets available are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. A limited number of tickets may be available at the door. Event check-in starts at 6 p.m. Program begins promptly at 6:30 p.m. Seating at the event is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
MCRC Nominating Committee Chairman Raymond C Jones responds to Art Olivas commentary  See 12-29-15-briefs  I emailed Art last night after receiving yesterday's email message and I talked with him on the phone today.  Art was not excluded from the list of candidates intentionally. Here are a few points of clarification regarding this year's committee:
(1) The deadline to submit a letter of intent to the MCRC Chairman was December 4 at midnight.  Art did not meet this deadline.
(2) No member of the nominating committee nominated Art Olivas during the committee meeting on December 12.  Eleven of the twenty LDs were represented at this meeting.
(3) There is still one option available to Art (and any PC) to be a candidate for Member-at-Large and appear on the pre-printed ballot according to the MCRC Bylaws, Article IV, Section 1.B.7, "The name of any candidate seeking a county elective office, who was not nominated through the nominating committee, will be placed on the pre-printed ballot if petitions representing five percent (5%) of the elected county PCs are submitted to the MCRC Chairman at least fourteen (14) days prior to the MCRC Meeting." Since the list of Precinct Committeemen as of 12/06/2015 shows 3,350 Republican PCs were elected or appointed as of 11/18/2015, a PC would need 168 signatures and would need to get the petitions to Tyler Bowyer no later than Saturday, January 2.
(4) According to the MCRC Bylaws, Article IV, Section 1.B.8, "Additional candidates may be nominated from the floor at the time of the meeting."  Art could utilize this bylaw on January 16, 2016.
I hold no malice towards Art or anyone else. raymond.c.jones@gmail.com   (602) 633-4639  - Jones is also the LD26 Chairman and he served as the 2014 Nominating Committee Chairman when Olivas submitted his letter of intent to run for Second Vice Chairman on time and was included on the candidate list.   - ft

Oooops:  A couple of days ago we received information from a friend of Sheriff Joe Arpaio that Joe’s wife Ava was in the hospital.  Although appreciative of concerns, Lisa Allen, Arpaio’s long-time communications director, says Ava is not in the hospital, she  went in for some tests and went home.

Sentinel Intelligence Services Lyle Rapacki: In the midst of WWII, “kids” who also were fighting enemies on multiple fronts, found time to swing dance.  Either back home for some “R&R” or during a lull in action in theatre or maybe even just passing through a train station, these kids who abruptly had to grow-up could also smile, sing and dance at a moment’s notice or opportunity.  All it took was some music. With the state of the World today, sit back and enjoy our USAF: I pray you are able to go into this New Year dancing at the prospects right in front of you; that you are excited to meet the challenges you have been granted the gift to confront. https://www.youtube.com/embed/khQN5ylb3H0

Voters Say Deportation Policies Not Aggressive Enough   Most voters continue to believe the government isn't cracking down enough on illegal immigration and still take issue with a central provision in President Obama's plan to exempt up to five million illegal immigrants from deportation.

Omnibus Attack on American Jobs   By Phyllis Schlafly   Beyond the question of what to do with illegal immigrants, it's important to reduce the flow of replacement workers into the United States. Guest worker programs have become a racket.

Despite New Limits, The IRS is Not Yet Under Control  The massive omnibus spending package passed by Congress included new limits on the IRS, in particular on the agency's ability to harass political non-profits.
