Former LD 20 PC Janice Cottriel, known to many as "Dolly Madison" has lost her battle with a longtime illness. The Angels came for Dolly, the day before Christmas.  Dolly was responsible for recruiting hundreds of Precinct Committeemen in Maricopa County, especially prior to redistricting. Unable to leave her home for the last three years, and with limited ability to speak, all of Dolly's recruiting was done by computer from one room in her home.  Deepest sympathy to Dolly's daughters, Kim and Cathy.  Rest in Peace, Dolly.

Gordon Brown, Chairman of Veterans for Melunsky: I met John McCain once at a town hall. I came up to him after the event was over and asked him why there are so many problems with the VA, and what he would do as my senator. His reply was nothing short of shocking.
“Sir you did a job, you got paid for it. What more do you want?” When I heard that I was floored. My father and I both served our country honorably, and when we signed up we never asked for anything in return. I do not want to fix the VA system so that I will be taken care of. I want it fixed so that all those men and women who suffered far worse than I for their country will be able to get the care and support they were promised.
The First cost of freedom is taking care of our Veterans. This is why I am proud to join Alex Meluskey in his campaign for the U.S. Senate as his Chairman of the Veterans for Meluskey Coalition Alex is a man who truly understands the concept first articulated by George Washington, "The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by our nation." -- George Washington

Pima County Republican Committee Chairman Bill Beard: I would like to personally thank a gentleman who has been indispensable to the efforts of the Pima County Republican Party for this past year. Mateo R Perez has made the work of the party infinitely easier by his constant efforts both in the office and outside. Matt has served as our Executive  Director and his tireless efforts helped to rebuild the strength of the interns and volunteers working through headquarters and helped to reconnect the party with folks all across politics. He has taken a position working in the private sector starting with the first of the New Year. His energy, enthusiasm and never quit attitude will be sorely missed.  Thank you Matt for a job very well done.

Pima County Republican Committee Executive Director Matt Perez:  I just wanted to thank each of you for your help and confidence in me over the last year. I took this position with the Pima GOP for the same reasons each of you is involved, because we deeply care for our community and want Pima County and Tucson to thrive. As I clean out our office here at HQ I'm reminded that we are just a blip on the screen of the Pima GOP and others have been working hard for decades to make our community better the same way we are now. Politics always ebbs and flows and we made a lot of gains this year and I do believe our best days are ahead of us. As the leaders of the GOP in Pima County each of you have made a difference in my life and our community. If there is any way I can help or assist please don't hesitate to call or email.

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus and Co-Chairman Sharon Day New Year’s message: “The New Year is a chance for everyone to take up new opportunities and rededicate ourselves to the things we hold dear,” Chairman Priebus said. “As we flip the calendar to 2016, I hope this year will be one of peace and prosperity for our families and our country. 2015 was a year of many successes for our party. Republicans hold thirty-two governorships and majorities in sixty percent of state legislatures around the country, and we are eager to bring conservative leadership to communities in those states. As we look ahead to 2016, our majorities in the House of Representatives and the Senate are eager to keep moving forward with our goals of promoting opportunity, creating jobs, and keeping America free from harm.  And we as a party are laser-focused every day on putting a Republican president in the White House by building an unprecedented data, digital, and ground game operation for our eventual nominee."
“I want to wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year,” said Co-Chairman Sharon Day. “As we reflect on the year gone by and look with hope on 2016, it is my prayer that this will be a year of great things for our families, our communities, our nation, and our world. We ask God for His blessings on America, our people, and especially the brave men and women of our armed services.”

Sen John McCain Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, on Iran’s recent rocket launch near the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier in the Strait of Hormuz: "As the Obama Administration celebrates the Iran nuclear deal, Iran conducted a highly provocative launch of several rockets with little warning just 1500 yards from a U.S. aircraft carrier in the Strait of Hormuz. This alarming launch comes after Iran has conducted two advanced missile tests since October in violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions. Yet the Administration continues to turn a blind eye to Iranian saber rattling, continued state sponsorship of terrorism, and violations of its international commitments for fear Iran will walk away from the nuclear deal.
"The administration's desperate attempts to get sanctions relief before the elections in February based on an unfounded belief that it will promote what they perceive as a 'moderate' political strain in Iran is both naïve and dangerous. A rush to sanctions relief threatens to embolden an increasingly aggressive Iranian regime that has no intention of normalizing relations with the West or of retreating from a malign policy intended to destabilize the Middle East. We need a to ensure that U.S. forces are postured to respond to Iranian aggression and finally adopt a comprehensive strategy to counter Iran's malign influence in the Middle East."

Senator Sylvia Allen – Newly Appointed Senate Education Chairman: I am grateful for the trust shown in me by this appointment. I believe in our education system and it is time we brag about our accomplishments.  I am not surprised by the attacks of the progressives concerning my appointment.  Progressives decimate people, hoping to drive them away from public policy so they can go on to the next victim.
I am being personally attacked for a remark made in 2009 in the Natural Resource Committee.  I was not talking about how old the earth is; I was referring to the 6,000 years of man’s dealings with this earth. Our great country was founded on the principles endowed by our Creator with “certain unalienable rights” and we are born free as sovereign humans with the ability to think for ourselves.
I do not march to the politically correct progressive drummer.  I believe the dictates of my own conscience.  To be attacked about this is an attack upon my Christian private and sacred religious beliefs.
My focus as education chairman will be the following:
1) Preserve parental choice and encourage parental involvement.  It is critical for the success of the child to have parents involved.
2) Strengthen CTE classes and JTEDs.  Every young person leaving high school should have some skill or training to provide for them and to enrich their lives.
3) Support our teachers.  The morale among our teachers is low in Arizona.  We micromanage and dictate every minute in their class.  We have turned them into social workers, health providers, and social engineers.   Let them unleash their human spirit and create ideas. Let them teach.
4) Stop teaching to a test. Let the joy of learning take place and put testing only as a part of understanding, not the focus.  Test scores do not tell the whole picture. There are other measures to determine whether students are learning.
