Anita Christy (Gilbert/Gila Watch): Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas wants very much to hear from parents. Ms. Douglas has set up a “virtual chat” for Wednesday, March 30 from 11-12 Noon. You can submit questions/concerns any time before then by emailing directly to the AZ Dept. of Ed chat email Or, to be completely anonymous, an email account has been set up by our Mommy Lobby group, to be fielded by one of our Mommy Lobby members. This email is It would be helpful if you can identify your town/school district and/or legislative district, but it is not required. Questions/concerns can also be sent in via Twitter using ‪#‎ParentsMustBeHeard. You and she have a mutual priority: The best possible education for your children.

Activist Jim Ehl: “In reviewing the AZ GOP bylaws, by what authority does Robert Graham have to impose a $50 surcharge?  Shouldn’t this be something that AzRA should address???”

LD24 PC Carole Joyce: “I don’t know why there are those negative people again, all they can do is attack and complain…this time about the $50 charge. Stay home if they can’t afford the $50 bucks! Well, I do not have an issue with it, we have to pay the costs of the building rental and other expenses and the money has to come from somewhere.  Other communities and states charge a fee, we had no choice this time around. I don’t see the county rolling in money or leadership for that matter, just whining about everything. These folks would do a lot better to turn their negative energy into something positive like supporting our party.”

LD14 Republican Kale Kiyabu: There seems to be confusion on what constitutes requirements of the United States/Arizona Constitutions and Political Party requirements.

U.S. Constitution, Article II, Section 1, Clause 2 says each state shall appoint electors, determined by the number of our Senators and Representatives (11 this year). "Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector."

Clause 3 superseded by the XII Amendment basically states that the electors shall "vote by ballot for President and Vice President..."

There is no mention of political parties or party conventions in the US Constitution.  I can't find mention of presidential elections, party conventions or presidential electors in the Arizona Constitution; perhaps it is because the U.S. Constitution directs the state legislature to take up the matter, which it did in statute.

Arizona Revised Statutes 16-212 ars/16/00212 , 16-507 ars/16/00507 and 16-344 ars/16/00344, require

     1. that electors shall be elected,

     2. that the electors names appear on the general ballot next to the Party's presidential surname, and

     3. that the Party's electors names shall be submitted to the Secretary of State's office (by State Party Chairman).

ARS 16-243ars/16/00243 does address how party delegates shall/may vote at the National Convention.

None of these address how those delegates are selected; how many delegates shall represent Arizona at the National Convention; and they do not address how and who pays for party conventions, meetings, dinners...  All of that is determined by Party Officials/committees. The selection of the Party's nominee for President/Vice President is a Party function left to party rules and bylaws.

If you want to blame someone for having to pay for state convention activity, blame me. I stopped giving money to the State and National Party committees. I give directly to candidates of my choice. – Kale Kiyabu, Cochise County

LD26 PC And Former Marine Matt Papke has announced that a group of “Patriotic PCs” are seriously considering taking legal action against Robert Graham and the Arizona Republican Party over the $50 fee imposed on delegates for the first time in the 78 year history of the AZGOP. See 3-24-16 Briefs Maricopa County PCs passed a resolution censuring Graham during the January 2015 Maricopa County meeting. Papke can be reached at 480-242-2208 or

Between Now And April 9 those delegates who will be voting at the April 30 AZGOP State Convention will be elected at Arizona County and Legislative meetings. Sen Sylvia Tenney Allen: I believe our greatest challenge living in this electronic age is to have the right to privacy in our speech, thoughts, beliefs and lives.  One trend in our schools brought by the progressives is the use of our children for data that can be used in marketing, curriculum, test development and social engineering. Rep Mark Finchem is sponsoring HB 2088 (schools; assessments, surveys; informed consent) that asserts the God-given rights of parents.  This is an important bill to reaffirm parents’ rights in protecting the privacy of their children against surveys that ask personal questions about themselves and their families with no control over how that information will be used.  Parents should know and give permission for these types of surveys.

I have been working with Finchem, staff and the Governor’s office to amend the bill to address concerns so that it will have the votes necessary to pass in the Senate.  We need calls and emails to the Senate to encourage everyone to support this critical bill. I don’t know how anyone could think that a parent should not be required to consent before any of the following are asked of your child:

1. Critical appraisals of a close relationship.

2. Gun or ammunition ownership.

3. Illegal, antisocial or self-incriminating behavior.

4. Income or other financial information.

5. Relationships with a lawyer, physician or member of the clergy.

6. Medical history or medical information.

7. Mental health history or mental health information.

8. Political affiliations, opinions or beliefs.

9. Pupil biometric information.

10. The quality of home interpersonal relationships.

11. Religious practices, affiliations or beliefs.

12. Self-sufficiency.

13. Sexual behavior or attitudes.

14. Voting history.

This is the first of many bills that are needed to protect our children and I appreciate Finchem’s leadership.  Also thanks to the grassroots parents Bill Sandry, Tracy Langston, and others for their hours of help and support with this legislation. Candidate Commentary

Please comply with the 300 word limit policy. If statements exceeds the limit, it will be edited.

CD candidate Carlyle Begay: Last year, I was a Democrat. But I became disheartened when, year after year, Democrats abandoned the people of Arizona. I am a Navajo, a Republican, a leader for my people – and I am running for Congress in Arizona's First District. I joined the Republican Party when I saw that conservatives were continually here for people – here for me, here for Arizona, and here for America. I recognized that conservatives stand for family values, self-reliance, and economic opportunity – all ideals shared by my people and by myself. My roots and heritage remind me never to forget my sense of belonging and where I come from. They're what called me to serve – and are why I am running for the U.S. House of Representatives today. I am fed up with Washington, and I know you are too.It is time for fresh conservative thinking in Washington where family and community is at the heart of our policies. We need a leader in Congress who understands – who has a different background and a unique point of view. I'm running to stand up for the core principles of limited government, personal responsibility, and economic opportunity for all. I'm running because I know our national security relies on secure borders. I'm running because I know our military must remain strong. I will uphold these tenants of conservatism, and I will lead. But I am asking for your help. I plan to be the first Navajo Congressman – who won't forget where he came from, what America stands for, or how to lead. to succeed I need...

CD1 candidate Paul Babeu: ...From this President and this Congress. They feel like a headache that simply won’t go away. Is there a better word for what Washington is doing these days but “overindulge”? President Obama and his allies are on a spending binge that never seems to stop, and won’t until we either do something about it or bankrupt the next generation. Of course, no binge happens without enablers… in this case, it’s masquerading liberals like Ann Kirkpatrick who talk tough on the border but sell out Arizonans at every step… because they put special interests and vote bundling above the rule of law and safe communities. All of it has to stop. As a country, we’re like a college kid waking up to a test on a Monday morning and finding that reality is a lot tougher when you simply have to face it. It’s high time we impose a little reality on Washington. It’s a place that sorely needs it. Well, imposing reality is what I do every day for law breakers who would do us harm. I’m running hard and we’re winning this race. But we have to keep our momentum. With you help, we’ll stay in front on the liberals chasing us, and the establishment types who think the status quo is good enough. I know one thing for sure: the status quo for our country, and for our border security, is not enough.
