4-14-16 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Editor - Frosty Taylor repcomm@cox.net or frostytaylor@cox.net   Web Master John Strasser

Yesterday Afternoon, AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham released the list of 1,251 elected delegates to the Arizona Republican State Convention to be held April 30, 2016 at the Mesa Convention Center. He also published the list of more than 900 candidates seeking to win one of the 55 elected national delegate positions. The Convention will also elect 55 alternate delegates to serve in case a delegate is unable to participate.

“It’s an exciting time to be a Republican and to play a role in implementing the will of the Republican voters in Arizona as we gather to elect our national delegates who will select our presidential nominee,” said Graham. “This will be an historic convention and we’re looking forward to emerging with a nominee who will win the White House this fall and lead our party with Republican victories across the nation.”

The nomination process for national delegate ended on April 10th, and the eligible candidates will stand for election on the April 30th ballot. Delegates must be registered Republicans.

Delegates pay the full cost of their attendance at the Republican National Convention, an amount expected to be approximately $4,000 per person. At the Convention delegates vote openly, and state law requires the delegates to cast their vote for the winner of the March 22nd election, in this case Donald Trump. If no candidate receives the majority of delegate votes, subsequent rounds of voting occur and by law the Arizona delegates are released to support any candidate after the first ballot is cast.

Cruz-Positioning-Loyalists-In Arizona-For Big-Convention-Swing … Arizona Republicans voted nearly two-to-one for Donald Trump over Ted Cruz on March 22, handing all of the state's 58 delegates to Trump. But if the GOP race heads to the convention floor, Arizona's massive haul of delegates could overwhelmingly swing to Cruz on a potential second ballot as the Cruz campaign continues to plant loyalists into the state's delegation. "I think Arizona is still in play - it's the easiest way to say it," said Robert Graham, the state's GOP chair. The Trump campaign is already seething at the suggestion. "There's no question Ted Cruz is actively working hard to subvert the will of Arizona voters and get his delegates out there," said Jeff DeWit, Trump's state campaign chair. Trump beat Cruz by nearly 120,000 votes in the primary - and the 58 delegates are required to vote for him in the first round of balloting. But if Cruz nor Trump receive the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the nomination on the first ballot, the 58 Arizonans will be freed to vote for whoever they chose.

Former Maricopa County Republican Committee Chairman AJ LaFaro has written to AZGOP Exec Dir Avinash Iragavarapu requesting an explanation for reports that the AZGOP call letter for the April 30 convention will not include a resolution - calling for Chairman Robert Graham’s resignation - that LaFaro had re-submitted as directed by AZGOP officials.  LaFaro writes: “…I must say, the continued lack of ethics and integrity within the AZGOP State Party and Staff never ceases to amaze me. The resolution I originally submitted on March 14th and was instructed by Tim Sifert to resubmit after being elected a state convention delegate is attached.”  LaFaro  resubmitted the resolution to  AZGOP officials on April 6, the day after he was elected a state delegate by LD18 PCs.  LaFaro is a LD18 Precinct Committeeman, State Committeeman and State Convention Delegate

AZGOP State Convention Delegates’ Resolution

Demanding Chairman Robert Graham Resign

We, the 2016 State Convention Delegates of the Arizona Republican Party (AZGOP) are obligated to hold all of our leaders accountable for their actions. Only in times of great crisis or betrayal is it necessary to publicly censure our leaders. Today we are faced with both in as much Robert Graham is by far one of the worst Party Chairman the AZGOP has ever endured. So with conviction we rise and declare:

WHEREAS, Chairman Robert Graham

  • has continued to violate the Arizona Revised Statutes, the Bylaws of the Arizona

Republican Party, the bylaws of several of the County and Legislative District Republican

Committees, and the latest Edition of Robert’s Rules of Order; and

  • has repeatedly disregarded and disrespected the will of an overwhelming majority of

the AZGOP State and Precinct Committeemen; and

  • has conducted dictatorial actions that have been calculated and an insidious conspiracy

- including but not limited to the unconstitutional 2016 State Convention poll tax - for his personal benefit, the benefit of his cronies and the Republican establishment cabal.

BE IT RESOLVED that Robert Graham’s constant intimidation, bullying, overreach and unilateral policies will no longer be tolerated;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED the AZGOP State Convention Delegates censure Robert Graham for his continued disservice to our Party, State and Nation;

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED the AZGOP State Convention Delegates have lost confidence in Robert Graham, will no longer support him or his actions and demand his immediate resignation.

Congressman Paul A. Gosar after participating in a House Water, Power and Oceans Subcommittee titled, “Empowering States and Western Water Users Through Regulatory and Administrative Reforms” examining the growth of pervasive federal regulations over water resources: “For centuries, western states have fought over scarce water supplies. This scarcity led our visionary forefathers to build federal water storage projects throughout to provide water, hydropower, recreation, flood control and environmental benefits while adhering to state water rights. For generations, these projects provided benefits to a growing society, but what the federal government helped give, it has been taking away. The Obama Administration is only speeding up this erosion in its waning days and doing so under the cover of darkness. “Thankfully, last year the Forest Service withdrew its poorly written and fundamentally flawed Groundwater Directive but just like Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Terminator…it’s back.  Only this time, it’s being done under much more hidden circumstances–as recently uncovered by the Western Governors Association. We must put this and any other attempted federal water grab in its grave once and for all.” Background--On April 14, 2015, U.S. Forest Service Deputy Chief Leslie Weldon announced the decision to permanently withdraw the Proposed Directive on Groundwater Management (Groundwater Directive). Candidate Commentary

Please comply with the 300 word limit policy. If statement exceeds the limit, it will be edited.

National Republican Committeewoman (RNC) Candidate Lori Klein: Most of you know me from my tenure in the Arizona State Senate from 2011 - 201.  What you may not know, is that I worked in Washington D.C. from 1975 - 1994 before moving to Arizona. I still have many connections in DC and have the time and resources to do the job as Arizona’s national committeewoman.  I worked for RNC Research for Mike Baroody in 1978 and wrote for Commonsense publication.  I attended the 1980 Republican Convention in Detroit for the RNC and was a Reagan supporter. While working for Republican Congressman John Myers from Indiana I continued working RNC phone banks, raising money, in the evenings.  In 1980, I worked on Reagan's campaign in Idaho. Upon returning to DC in 1983, I headed up the Washington Times Public Relations, buffering relations with Members of Congress and the Reagan Administration to help build a conservative newspaper in Washington, D.C..  I then worked for General John K Singlaub with his Western Goals organization and was also hired on by Keene/Shirley and Associates to do PR to helped represent the Nicaraqua's anti-communist resistance.  I also worked for US Term Limits for a few years from home as I was a stay at home mom until my kids got into grade school.  I then volunteered for the FairTax and helped raise money for conservative causes from home. My husband, three sons and I moved to Arizona in 1994 to be near my parents in Glendale. My sons are raised and I am now married to a very wonderful law and order patriot, former Arizona Attorney General and former President of the NRA Bob Corbin. I would like to be your conservative voice in Washington. Contact: lklein4@gmail.com Editor’s Note: The Arizona Republican National Committeewoman position is up for election at the April 30 AZGOP State Convention in Phx. Long-time AZ RNC Sharon Geise is not running for re-election.

Republican National Committeeman Bruce Ash to Arizona State Convention Delegates: When we meet in Phoenix to pick our national delegates we will elect our National Committeeman/Committeewoman. I am seeking re-election and ask for your vote for all of the things we are focused on in the upcoming convention and general election. I stand for transparency and fairness at our national convention and keeping the party unified for the White House fight. I promise to continue holding our elected leaders accountable by turning the RNC into an independent political force. I plan to support Robert Graham to become our next RNC Chair. I am running against the influence of political consultants like Karl Rove who have repeatedly failed us in national elections and wants to parachute a "fresh face” candidate into the convention. I promise to continue the insurgency through The National Republican Conservative Committee which I helped to create. We must continue our fight and retain our majorities throughout the country. Most importantly I plan to continue leading the RNC to recognize the power of the Republican electorate and our party volunteers who are the heart and key to our succeses . I have and will continue to serve as an influential gate keeper for the rules of our party which are fair. I will never stop being a consensus builder. In an anti-establishment year you can depend on me to continue honoring your trust and never allowing anyone to move the goalposts in the middle of the contest. Between now and the convention I will be leading the charge to use Robert’s Rules at the national convention which will preserve the rights of our delegates. We delegates will be the driving force in Cleveland and not any behind the scenes groups. Thank you for the honor and privilege of serving you.

Scottsdale City Council Incumbent Virginia Korte: I want to thank all of you who accepted my invitation to send your input on transportation issues.  Given the number of thoughtful emails I received, it is obvious that Scottsdale residents believe that addressing our transportation issues is one of our city’s biggest priorities. I agree.  That is why my campaign is focusing on Scottsdale’s current and future transportation needs and how they impact our economy and quality of life. The diversity of opinion and the issues residents raised underscores the complexity of the topic of transportation. The feedback ranged from how to improve bus service to opening a constructive dialogue on high-capacity transit options.  Several people also mentioned doing a better job synchronizing our traffic signals, abandoning photo radar and reviewing trolley routes. While everyone did not agree on how to prioritize transportation issues, there was consensus that our city is changing and there is value in connecting Scottsdale with transit systems in our neighboring cities.  So planning ahead is absolutely critical. Once again, I want to express my appreciation for everyone’s feedback.  For those of you who have not had a chance to respond, I urge you to do so.
