Scroll down to Congressional Commentary for a full list of Gosar’s legislation.

School-Backers-Seek-More-Funds-After-Proposition-123-Passes Education advocates are keeping the heat on Gov. Doug Ducey to restore K-12 funding now that voters have approved a measure that pumps $3.5 billion into schools over ten years. The backers said at a Capitol news conference Monday that even with Proposition 123's passage, schools will still get $1.2 billion less a year than before the Great Recession. Joined in a coalition they're calling AZ Schools Now, they called for steps to restore funding for textbooks and technology, building maintenance and teacher pay and development

Gov Doug Ducey: “The votes have been counted and the result is clear. This is a huge victory for public education in Arizona. After years of lawsuits and fighting, we are moving forward and funding our teachers, students and schools – instead of lawyers. “Thanks to the voters, schools will soon see a cash infusion, with billions of new dollars flowing in the years ahead. This will make the difference in the lives of kids and teachers all across this state, and that can’t be understated. These are the resources educators have been telling us they need, and by coming together and working together, we were able to make it happen. Many said we should have waited until November, when passage would have been easier. Special election turnout presents unique challenges, and this is certainly the most difficult political environment anyone can recall.  However, the schools needed money now, so we took the harder path because it was the right thing to do.  I’m gratified that it paid off, with a majority saying yes, and now schools will see funds as early as next month. I want to thank all the teachers, parents, education champions, business leaders and elected leaders on both sides of the aisle who worked tirelessly to advocate for this proposition. This was truly a broad, bipartisan coalition that brought individuals together who don’t always agree. While this campaign is over, that spirit should live on in all we do, especially when it comes to education.”

Zack Taylor, Chairman NAFBPO: An update from National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers on the insecure border link to heroin in the United States. Folks, it is about Sanctuary Cities and the corruption of our institutions brought to you by your elected officials nationwide. Talking about same sex bathrooms, climate change, transfats in french fries or sugar in 32 ounce sodas when heroin is selling for $1.00 a mg on the streets of your town is disinformation to draw your attention away from what the real problems are and there is Big Money in illegal drugs.  So why are so many trying to not talk about the heroin epidemic?  Could it be that they are benefiting from the sale of heroin in the United States? See http://hubpages.com/politics/Border_Security and heroin-epidemic-real-metric-determining-border-security

LD17 PC Dianne Woods. I pulled up Big GOP Donors Eschewing Trump, Hampering Fundraising Efforts when I got a pop up by John McCain’s people trying to twist things to try to make Kelly Ward look bad.  The only way to stop McCain will be in door to door grass roots effort with facts showing the good she has done and all the bad he has voted on.

Wickenburg PC Scott Powelson: “I warned a gentleman in California who worked for Ronald Reagan in the 1980s that at some point we might have to turn Mexico into a territory just to clean it up enough so the good people could live there without being endangered by the corruption which has become the norm recently. He scoffed at the idea then, I wonder what he would think now? He was one of Reagan's self-described hatchet men cutting the waste in government. I am sure he is gone now since he would be in his late 90s by now. He was a very smart and good man, his name was Terry Chambers and he lived in Newport Beach, California at the time. If this is what you want your town to be in the future just elect Hilary Clinton. This is already happening in some towns in California because of their stance on illegal immigration refusing to even deport or prosecute criminals from Mexico and other countries with similar problems.” See Police-Soldiers-Swarm-Mexicos-Acapulco-Killings-Continue

Tom Morrissey Immediate Past Chairman AZ GOP: I couldn't help but chuckle when I read the comments of Maricopa Sheriff candidates Marsha Hill and Dan Saban that they were turning their signed petitions in on the same day that Federal Judge Murray Snow was handing down his decision on what he's going to do with Sheriff Joe.  What springs to mind is we now have a "Gang of Three" (calls to mind the shenanigans of the old Gang of Eight?) trying to take one of the best lawmen in the country down, because he has had the audacity to keep the promises he made to us, each time he has run for election.  And the current administration in Washington has had him in their cross hairs since they first took office in 2009, because he has done his job.   He has refused to be bullied and has stood alone, against their tyranny.  He's been paying a price for it but he is also setting the standard for those of us who believe in Our rights and who refuse to go along with those who are trying to suppress them.  I say this as someone who has laid his life on the line for our way of life, as a soldier and as a Deputy US Marshal.  Those life's experiences have provided me with the ability to recognize "True Grit" when I see it. And also, when I don't see it! I sure as all hell see it in Joe Arpaio.  Still looking for it in some others previously mentioned.  Just my humble opinion folks. Just my humble opinion.

Sen John McCain sent a letter to Phoenix VA Health Care System Director Deborah Amdur thanking her for creating a community outreach pilot program to help treat veterans suffering from mental health disorders. The program was established under the Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention for American Veterans Act, legislation McCain sponsored and was enacted in 2015 to enhance suicide prevention and mental health care resources for veterans.

Jo Beth Martin, Tea Party Patriots Co-Founder: Tomorrow the IRS is finally going to have to answer to you and me about targeting conservative and Tea Party groups. And we have the House Freedom Caucus to thank for this victory. Despite reluctance by the GOP leadership, Rep. Jim Jordan and Rep. Mark Meadows gave Speaker Ryan two options:

1. Hold hearings to impeach IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, or

2. They’d force a vote on the House floor

Just days after the Freedom Caucus demanded action by Speaker Ryan on this issue, the Judiciary Committee announced they would hold two hearings to examine the abuses by top IRS officials. It’s taken three years to get to this point, but we don’t even have confirmation that the tax commissioner will show up to the hearings! Regardless of what happens tomorrow, you and I know the fight against the IRS is far from over. Over the past few years, conservatives have been fighting tirelessly to hold the IRS accountable. But the agency - led by Obama stooge John Koskinen - has stonewalled every step of the way. So we shouldn’t be surprised they haven’t agreed to attend these hearings. It’s what we’ve come to expect from the IRS, the government andit’s what we’ve come to expect of many congressional leaders. Tea Party Patriots won’t stop fighting for justice against the IRS, and we certainly won’t let our political leaders get away with sweeping this under the rug. We’ve been dedicated to getting to the bottom of the systematic targeting of Tea Party groups since the news first broke in 2013. But when IRS officials are charged with erasing backup computer files with Lois Lerner’s emails...and won’t show up to hearings we know we’re still facing an uphill battle. Help us hold the IRS and our government officials accountable. We are counting on your support!

AzCDL President Dave Kopp: Two months, eight weeks, 60 days: whichever way you quantify it; a lot can happen in the span of two months. In just two months, Arizona Citizens Defense League has raised over $25,000 in our grassroots efforts to impede a Bloomberg-backed, anti-rights ballot measure in Arizona. And in less than two months, Bloomberg may succeed in officially placing his “universal background check” measure on Arizona ballots. Bloomberg’s Everytown group has already boasted success in Washington, and has ballot measures in place in Nevada and Maine. What we can tell from these endeavors is that we cannot count on outside help to defeat Bloomberg in Arizona. Join our grassroots efforts today and become a part of the movement to defend our fundamental rights. Thank you for your support and faith in AzCDL. We are grateful to have patriots like you fighting for our liberties in Arizona. Please pass this message along to any like-minded friends and family.

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus on Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert McDonald’s comments at the Christian Science Monitor Breakfast comparing wait times at the VA to lines at Disneyland, which came during the week between Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day: “Up to 307,000 veterans have reportedly died waiting for care due to corruption and mismanagement at the VA, so it is astonishing that VA Secretary Robert McDonald would suggest wait times don’t need to be measured,” said Priebus. “Drawing comparisons to lines at Disneyland is ludicrous and shows the leadership crisis at the VA is far from being solved. Our veterans deserve better, and Hillary Clinton’s claim that problems at the VA are not ‘widespread’ shows she is clearly not the answer. Until Democrats stop protecting government union bosses and corrupt bureaucrats, this will sadly continue to be a problem for our veterans who have sacrificed so much for our country.”

Virginia Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe is the subject of an ongoing investigation by the FBI and prosecutors from the Justice Department's public integrity unit, U.S. officials briefed on the probe say. The investigation dates to at least last year and has focused, at least in part, on whether donations to his gubernatorial campaign violated the law, the officials said. McAuliffe wasn't notified by investigators that he is a target of the probe, according to the officials. "The governor will certainly cooperate with the government if he is contacted about it," said Marc Elias, an attorney for McAuliffe's campaign, in a statement to CNN.

John-McCain-Goes-Negative-As Dr-Kelli-Ward-Surges-In AZ-GOP-Senate-Primary… Arizona GOP Senator John McCain’s reelection campaign is lashing out with negative attacks against his Republican primary opponent, State Senator Dr. Kelli Ward, as new polling shows trouble for McCain’s attempt for a sixth Senate term. A new poll from Public Policy Polling (PPP) shows Dr. Ward and McCain tied at 41% in a head-to-head matchup. The poll has even more bad news for McCain, showing the aging Senator with just a 35% approval among Republican primary voters…

Congressman Paul Gosar: “This process is how we defund Obama's lawlessness, eliminate wasteful spending and prioritize resources for what’s really important like supporting our nation's veterans and securing the border. It's just that simple. The House is given this power to act as a check against a lawless executive branch and hold bureaucrats accountable for their actions. In total, I personally led 47 different appropriations submissions in fiscal year 2017 which you can learn more about by clicking on the links below.”

Senator John McCain on Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Robert McDonald’s comments comparing the wait time for veterans to receive care at VA hospitals to the wait time for rides at Disneyland: “Secretary McDonald’s comment is outrageous and completely inappropriate. Our veterans aren’t in line for a theme park ride – they are in desperate need of timely access to quality medical treatment. Just this month, the wait time for 494,690 appointments exceeded 30 days. The VA Secretary’s statement reflects a fundamental lack of understanding about the serious problems plaguing veterans’ health care and makes clear that a permanent and universally available VA Choice Card should be passed and signed into law immediately. Secretary McDonald’s comparison further erodes what little confidence the American people have left in the Department of Veterans Affairs and its commitment to our veterans.”

CANDIDATE COMMENTARY

Please comply with the 300 word limit policy. If statements exceeds the limit, it will be edited.

LD23 incumbent Rep Jay Lawrence: I just returned from the Secretary of State’s office where I filed 1,100 signatures, almost twice the number required to be on the primary ballot.  THANK YOU to everyone who helped me collect them. Now it is time for fundraising, signs, phones, and door knocking to continue to my more than 2-year conversation with the voters of LD23.  I’m proud of what we’ve done over these last two years, particularly in the area of education. I’ll see you on the stump!

LD12 Senate Candidate Warren Petersen: Our campaign is off to a strong start.  We have a lot of exciting things to report. As a representative, I've been working hard the last four years to keep my commitments to conservative ideals, the Constitution and American core principles.  As a result I've been named “Legislator Of The Year” three times by small business, “Friend Of The Family, Top Conservative, Hero Of The Taxpayer, Top Regulatory Reformer, Free Market Champion” along with other recognitions.  I've consistently been endorsed by the top organizations that support business, 2nd Amendment rights and life.  I promise to continue on the same path at the legislature to promote prosperity and protect your rights. This is about a love of freedom and willingness to sacrifice.  That's why I not only refused the pension but successfully passed legislation to eliminate them for all Arizona politicians.  The election is just a few months away.  With your help, we will win. Our fundraising is off to a great start.  Our next deadline is May 30th. Visit my website at www.votewarrenpetersen.com. Any amount, even $10 (pays for 2 yard signs) is helpful.  It’s hard to ask for money and I've always put in some of my own funds to offset the costs, but it takes the generosity of great friends to fund a winning campaign.
