Maricopa County GOP Treasurer David Ludwig's cousin, Cole Toner from Indianapolis, IN is graduating from Harvard this month with a degree in Political Science and Economics. But before Toner tries his hand at politics he'll be working hard to make the final roster for our Arizona Cardinals. Cole was drafted as an offensive tackle by the Cardinals on Sat., April 30, in the fifth round of the NFL draft. With so many family members in Arizona and having visited almost every summer and over many Christmas vacations, Toner feels like playing for the Cardinals is like coming home, according to Ludwig.

LD25 PC Karen Gevaert: To all PCs and those who hold some political office, it is "our duty" to clean-up our corrupt Az. State political system. Donald Trump should not be responsible for our "political ineptness." On Sat. April 30, we suffered humiliation and all was reported by the National TV & radio networks. So the only choice we have (to save face) is "legal" recourse, and the removal from political office those who do not follow the Rules Of Honesty.

John Duane Rhodes:After all the backroom deals and infighting at our Republican convention Saturday Ted Cruz now throws in the towel, I hope my fellow Republicans will now support Donald Trump and get a Republican in the White House.”

Activist Anita Christy: The Legislative session is coming to a fast close with agreement on the budget. Unfortunately we have legislators who don’t agree students need protection from intrusive surveys given in schools. Please contact the Representatives listed below to vote in support of HB2088 – which requires written informed consent from a parent of a pupil prior to administration of certain surveys asking for personal information from the student. This bill is sponsored by LD11 Rep Finchem. This vote narrowly failed Wednesday but will be up for reconsideration---a re-vote TODAY, MAY 5.

The Dems Are Saying, “McCain is attacking Ann (Kirkpatrick) with a radio ad. The Arizona Senate race is front-and-center. McCain’s continued promise to support presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump has gotten the attention of national headlines. McCain knows he’s in trouble, and his desperate plan to hang onto his political career is to attack Ann. …One thing is clear: After 33 years in Washington, John McCain has lost his maverick ways. He now hopes attack ads and shadowy groups with deep pockets will save his seat.” In the meantime, a Republican woman - Dr Kelli Ward – has got him on the run from within his own party.

Call to Action: Arizona Citizens Defense League: Wednesday, the Senate defeated SB 1257, the AzCDL bill that would exempt CCW permit holders from being disarmed when entering state and local government controlled property unless everyone entering is screened for weapons. We were told that the Governor’s staff was aggressively lobbying Senators before today’s vote.   This was after requesting an amendment in the House and assuring us that they didn’t have any further concerns over the language in the bill. After voting FOR the passage of SB 1257 during the Senate Third Read vote Senators Carlyle Begay, Steve Pierce and Bob Worsley, voted Against SB 1257 during Wednesday’s Final Read vote. Senator Jeff Dial vanish from the chamber when SB 1257 came up for voting.  The result of this sabotage was a tie vote that killed the bill. We are disappointed by the tactics of this Governor.  At least his predecessor, Governor Brewer, chose not to interfere with the legislative process and let a prior version of SB 1257 get to her desk before publicly vetoing it. We continue to be appalled by the mindset of politicians and bureaucrats that it’s OK for armed violent murderers, rapists, domestic abusers and child molesters to waltz past their impotent “no guns” sign, but they are terrified at the thought of an armed law-abiding citizen doing the same thing. We’re not about to throw in the towel.  We are working to get SB 1257 heard on a “reconsideration” vote.  We need your help. A letter, addressed to the 4 Senators who caused the defeat of SB 1257 in the Senate Final Read, is waiting for you to send.  We’re not pulling any punches.  email Senators Begay, Dial, Pierce and Worsley and demand they request a reconsideration vote on SB 1257

"For us living along the border, this is a big safety issue,” said Dan Bell, whose family owns a ranch near Nogales and is testifying on Monday. “We are put in positions where we are encountering cartel activity on our lands with the nearest help often miles away. I know this is the case across Southern Arizona.” Panelist will address “Life on the Border: Examining Border Security through the Eyes of Local Residents and Law Enforcement.” Panel 1 will consist of Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels, Douglas Mayor Danny Ortega, National Border Patrol President Art Del Cueto. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs (SCIA) Chairman John Barrasso (R-WY) and SCIA member Senator John McCain (R-AZ) sent a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch today requesting a Department of Justice (DOJ) criminal investigation into the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) responsibility for the Gold King Mine disaster on Navajo Nation. In the letter, Barrasso and McCain point to clear evidence that the EPA was responsible for the disaster, including from the Department of Interior’s own Technical Evaluation that notes the EPA failed to conduct necessary water pressure tests before excavating a tunnel at the mine. …

“[W]e believe that sufficient information exists to warrant an investigation by the Justice Department of whether EPA employees or contractors may have committed crimes in connection with the spill, including but not limited to criminal violations of federal environmental laws, criminal negligence and obstruction. We ask that you review the circumstances surrounding the Gold King Mine spill to determine specifically whether evidence warrants the prosecution of any EPA manager, employee or contractor for the criminal violation of federal environmental law, criminal negligence, obstruction or any other crime.

Senator Sylvia Tenney Allen: It took us one day to spend $9.6 billion and are told it is not enough.  We need to be grateful for the revenue that has been provided from our citizens. The more money we leave in the private market the more money can be generated.  The more the people/businesses keep the more the private market produces.  That money generates tax revenue far beyond the tax cuts we would have kept. FY 2017 projects a cash balance of $67M and a structural balance of $2M, the first structural balance in the State of Arizona in a decade.  FY 2016 ends with a $225M balance, and doesn’t touch the $460M Rainy Day Fund. This proposal is structurally balanced with a cash balance for 2017, it is structurally balanced with a cash balance for 2018 AND 2019. Some budget Highlights:

Child Safety - $67M in 2016 budget and another $52M in new spending for 2017

K-12 – in addition to the $306M increase based on Prop 123’s passage

· $132M in new formula funding

· $31M for Current Year funding backfill, for the so-called Empty Seats Fund

· $5M for a pilot program for College Credit Incentives

· $6.5M for phase-out of multi-site charter school weight

· $30M in new money to School Facilities Board for building renewal

· $23M for new construction at Agua Fria and Chandler

· $29M is restored for Joint Technical Education Districts

· $1.2M for district-sponsored charter schools

Universities - $32M increase in 2017 and $200M more as a repayment of the University rollover.  This will be the equivalent of onetime cash to the Universities.  $91m ASU, $79m U of A, $30m NAU

Public Safety - $22M to establish Border Strike Force and $4.6M for pay raises for DPS officers and civilian staff

Transportation- $86.5M for transportation, in addition to the existing $30M for local HURF. Maricopa County drivers will see a $3 dollar reduction in vehicle emissions fee

Taxes - Tax credit for giving to charities is being doubled, to $400 for individuals and $800 for couples

Veterans - $10 million for new veterans’ home in Flagstaff. To be continued tomorrow:

Candidate Commentary

Please comply with the 300 word limit policy. If statements exceeds the limit, it will be edited.

CD5 candidate Christine Jones: I officially announced my candidacy for the Republican nomination in Arizona’s Fifth Congressional District. As a conservative business leader, I believe we have enough career politicians in Washington. We need citizen representatives with business and real world experiences if we are going to fix the multitude of problems facing America today - runaway spending in Washington, a failed immigration policy, and threats from ISIS on the battlefield and in cyberspace. The voters are tired of politicians who make big promises and fail to deliver. That needs to change. Unlike career politicians, I don’t just talk about what needs to be done…I do it. join campaign. As Executive Vice President of Go Daddy for more than 10 years, I played an essential role in the creation of over 4,000 jobs, including more than 1,500 in the East Valley. I bring successful private sector business, technology, and policy-development experience to the table. see video

Incumbent Sen John McCain's campaign released a radio ad that highlights Democrat Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick's continued support of Obamacare, despite the latest announcement that the nation's largest insurer is exiting the federal marketplace in a number of states, including Arizona. It has also been reported that premiums are expected to rise next year. The radio ad will run in Congressional District 1, primarily Flagstaff, Pinetop-Lakeside, Show Low and Safford. "When Democrat Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick proudly voted for Obamacare, she promised her constituents that the new health care system would preserve existing coverage and strengthen consumer protections," said Lorna Romero, Communications Director. "Despite these promises, the Obamacare exchange is collapsing and tens of thousands of Arizonans are being forced to find new health care coverage and brace themselves for higher premiums next year. Congresswoman Kirkpatrick's continued support of the failed health care system shows she is a rubber-stamp for President Obama and the liberal establishment."
