The Black And White Striped Uniforms worn by over 8,000 inmates in the Maricopa County jails have a new; yesterday (Independence Day) an American flag was affixed on uniforms. Sheriff Joe Arpaio ordered the new look “out of respect to our nation’s heritage and with the aspiration of adding to the respect each wearer will hold for themselves.” Yesterday, U.S. military veteran inmates joined the Arpaio in Tent City Jail to hand out the new flag-emblazoned uniforms to the inmates. Detention Officer Omar Al Mawashi, who passed his United States Citizenship test on May 26, joined Arpaio after attending his Naturalization Oath Ceremony in Federal Court. Mawashi, who came from Baghdad, Iraq, has lived in Phoenix for 51/2 years. He was hired by the MCSO in November 2012. Arpaio’s respect for veterans has resulted in:
· The MCSO employs over 600 men and women veterans.
· The MCSO hired 120 veterans in the last 2 ½ years.
· 44,000 inmates have signed up for Selective Service since 2004.
· Incarcerated veterans have been placed in their own jail pod so that they could get the help associated with their unique needs, including treatment for PTSD.
· Each day inmates hear “The Star Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America” on the public address system.
· American flags adorn each jail cell.
Arpaio also ran the Newt Gingrich 10-part video lecture series, “Renewing American Civilization,” in 1995 for all inmates to watch on television monitors throughout the jail system. The series focused on American history and its core pillars. See New Gingrich in Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Jails Arpaio, a veteran, joined the service when the Korean War broke out. He said, “My hope is that incarcerated inmates feel a sense of pride and honor when wearing the flag.” The next uniform change will incorporate a large American Flag as part of the chain gang uniform. This adaptation will be debuted by the female chain gang in the near future. Also see Arizona Sheriff Rolls Out New Look With US Flag For Inmates
Bruce M Piepho, LD14 PC : Celebration of Independence Day - What does it mean? There are some Republicans openly against Trump for president. I am going to name them the RAT PACK; Republicans Against Trump pack. The Rat Pack seem to have a great disregard for not only Republican principles and values but that which should belong to every American. Apparently the Rat Pack is willing to allow the Democrats to continue to erode the principles and values given to us in the U.S. Constitution. Common Core criteria for education doesn't even teach how to do basic mathematics let alone the freedom, liberty and pursuit of happiness bestowed upon us by our creator. Twenty five million Christians in 2012 and 2014 did not vote. So what are we celebrating? Maybe we should acknowledge - Independence Day RIP!

Yavapai County GOP Activist Jim Dutton Responds To Lynn Breyer: While I appreciate your devotion to Alex Meluskey I must correct some suppositions on your part. First, I never cited any polling data and if I had, unlike you, I would have posted a link so that the polling could be verified. Second, the date someone enters a political race doesn’t necessarily determine whether they are spoiler or the better candidate. Third, it is McCain who determined the biggest threat to his campaign. The color printed attack pieces all of us are receiving in the mail from his PACs are aimed at only one candidate. Hint: It isn’t Alex Meluskey. Fourth, while I like Alex and think he is a fine man, the hard truth is that people on the street have no idea who he is. He has been campaigning for 7 months and when I mention his name people still say, who? Arizona needs McCain gone and if Alex actually had the best chance of winning, I would have asked Kelli Ward to withdraw and support him. This isn’t personal its business and all about ridding Arizona of Senator McCain.
LD18 PC Peggy McClain: Regarding the comments whether the Senate candidates other than Kelli Ward should drop out and unite behind one candidate, I find it interesting what is good for the goose isn't good for the gander by some Meluskey supporters. It wasn't long ago that some Trump supporters were asking Kasich, Rubio, and Cruz to get out of the Presidential race because Trump had the lead and the party should unite. Couldn't that argument be used now in the senate primary? Also, Cruz threw his hat in the presidential ring before Trump did. Therefore, should Trump have stepped aside like some are asking Ward to do? I didn't know the winner of any political race should be who files first.
Dale Gohr of Clarkdale: To the delegates intent on short-circuiting the first round of voting in the 2016 GOP Convention to “steal” the Republican nomination from Donald Trump and give it to Ted Cruz, I want you to wake-up and start thinking instead of operating on pure emotion. If you are successful in derailing the “first round vote”, your movement will be co-opted away and the convention nomination will go to “someone other than Cruz”. Large segments of your “Dump Trump Supporters” are “Establishment Republicans” and they “Hate Cruz as much as they hate Trump”. They are encouraged to ‘play you’ like a cheap, mass-produced imitation of a “Stradivarius” because they need Trump out of the way so they can get to their choice - which is probably some combination of John Kasich and Jeb Bush. If you pull any kind of a “Delegate Count Double-cross” - like was done in the AZ State Convention I will stand with Trump and “write in his name in the General Election and then do everything I can to dismantle the “Republican Party”; because you and your corrupt friends are playing right into the “rash, corrupt cabal of Establishment Politicians”. After they double-cross you, they will still expect your vote “For the good of the Republican Party”. You won’t get any help from me; there are a lot more of us who are ‘loyal - first to God and Country’ and as committed Americans, our loyalty to the Republican Party is dependent on the “legitimate actions of the party hierarchy” not on just the letter “R” associated with a name. I am sure the intentional attempt to derail the nomination of Donald Trump, if successful, will destroy the Republican Party and it for sure (as in definitely), will not be the fault of Mr. Trump.

Congresswoman Martha McSally: This weekend, we celebrate our independence and birth as a new nation. When our Founding Fathers signed the Declaration of Independence 240 years ago, they not only were seeking to throw off the yoke of tyranny, but to create something entirely new: a representative government designed to uplift its citizens, not oppress them. This government would be founded on the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and would derive its sole authority, not from a royal bloodline, but from the people. This bold, new system of government has been handed down through the generations to us. Many American men and women have fought and died to defend and preserve it. And today is no different. Our country, and indeed our very way of life, are under attack from radical Islamic extremism. Our enemies seek not just our elimination, but the ideals for which we stand. While we must remain vigilant, we must not cower. This is a generational fight. It requires our full dedication to defeating our enemies and keeping our country safe. I will continue to lead in Congress to make sure we have an aggressive strategy to defeat ISIS and other Islamic extremist groups who seek our destruction. I thank all those serving overseas to keep us safe and ensure the torch is liberty is passed on. We are the land of the free because of the brave. And as you celebrate our freedoms this weekend, I wish you and your family a very happy Fourth of July!

Scottsdale City Councilwoman Virginia Korte: On this holiday, as most of the world is in turmoil and discontent, I will be contemplating the significance of our freedom. I hope that between all of the events and activities in which you are participating, you will also have time for reflection.
When I think about how much our country has accomplished since its inception only 240 years ago, the thing that comes most to mind is our country’s grit. It was sheer grit fueled by conviction, vision and hope -- and driven by our forefathers’ quest for freedom that made America what it is today. Those qualities are not just the ones on which our country was founded, they still reverberate across the land. These principles also continue to resonate with us here in our great city of Scottsdale. I believe my campaign for City Council is about creating a vision and being a voice for our city’s future. But to be successful in that endeavor, it is important that we honor our heritage and respect those who sacrificed and toiled to help make our city so special. This holiday is important to all of us, no matter what our political affiliations and philosophies. It is a time for celebrating our freedom, enjoying family and friends and reflecting on our good fortune of living in the greatest country in the world and the best city in America. Happy July 4th! PS: Please keep your family, friends and pets safe.
