Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor  repcomm@cox.net      Web Master John Strasser

Congressman Martha McSally will be in Green Valley Wednesday to speak with members of the Lions Club breakfast about her work to support the local economy. Later in the morning, she will meet with Sahuarita School District Superintendent Dr. Manny Valenzuela and will tour of the Green Valley Hospital at 11:45 am. Tuesday McSally visited Tucson Water's Advanced Oxidation Plant and their Southern Avra Valley Storage and Recovery Project to learn more about how Tucson manages our most precious resource.

The Capitol Times reports that Maricopa County Recorder Helen Purcell said elections officials and poll workers will not be enforcing the “ballot harvesting ban” lawmakers approved this year.

Wickenburg Mayor John Cook: "Congressman Paul Gosar is the only Congressman that comes to Wickenburg other than on election year. The Congressman takes the time to listen to the people and doesn’t make it all about himself. I wish all elected officials would follow his example. Thank you Congressman Gosar.”

LD17 Ii-360 Training is scheduled between 10 am and noon., Sat., Aug 6 at Gangplank, 250 W Arizona Ave., #2 in Chandler. Contact: Chr Dr. Shadow Asgar LD17shadow@gmail.com

The Mohave County Republican Party Meet and Greet for Dr Kelli Ward is scheduled between 5-7 pm., Sat., Aug 6 at GOP headquarters, 1711 N Stockton Hill Road, in Kingman. Contact: Carolyn Leff events@kelliward.com 1-928-230-0633.

CBL Directors Ron Ludders & Bob Thomas to US Senate candidate Alex Meluskey: Dropping out of the race for Senate was the "right thing to do."  When there is a cluttered primary campaign, with so many candidates running, this only helps to re-elect the establishment candidate.  You had pure motives and were running for the right reasons.  Helping to make this a 2-way race will increase chances for a victory for change in the Senate.  You are a Champion for Arizona by pulling out of the race prior to primary voting. We at Conservative Business League (CBL) "thank you" for your decision.

The Arizona Republican Assembly will host a “Meet & Greet” with Congressman Paul Gosar at 5:30 pm., Thur., Aug 4 at the Gold Canyon Golf Resort, 6100 South Kings Ranch Road, Gold Canyon, AZ. He will his 100% Pro-Life legislation, our 2nd Amendment Rights, and his policy that will finally secure our border. RSVP to Bob Moore at hazfat_az@yahoo.com.

Sen John McCain will receive a briefing from Dawn Mertz, executive director of the Arizona High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), on efforts to combat the illegal trafficking of drugs across the Southwest border at 2:15 pm., Wed., Aug 3 in Chandler.

LD17 will meet at 7 pm., Tues., Aug 23 at the Tri-City Baptist Church (upstairs chapel -August Meeting Only), 2211 W. Germann Road, Chandler, AZ 85286. They regularly meet on the last Tuesday of the month. Contact: Chr Dr. Shadow Asgar LD17shadow@gmail.com

AAARC Chairman Rev Clyde Bowen: They are talking about this on the radio us-border-protection-agcy-advertises-safe-zones-illegal-aliens You should ALL be talking about this on your Agenda! Question Your Leaders. Pass this around to everyone. Bombshell!

Activist Jeff Greenspan: Paul Ryan's GOP primary opponent is Paul Nehlen. Here is his stance on the issues http://www.paulnehlen.com/nehlen-issues/ One can donate to his campaign there as well.

Researcher Ann Herzer: I picked up the paper this morning and read what John McCain was doing.  Then I got a call from our Maricopa Co. Attorney Bill Montgomery message,  whom I thought was ok, endorsing McCain.  It would appear that this total state is controlled by CFR or CNP.  McCain is CFR.  None of these people are fit to call themselves Americans, as far as I can see.  My decision in 1982 to never vote for John McCain, appears to have been a correct on.  I saw characteristics then, and now!

LD17 will be seeking volunteers for phone banks in September. Contact: Contact: Chr Dr. Shadow Asgar LD17shadow@gmail.com

Former Marine Bill Heuisler: Veterans dislike politicians who claim to be with them, but vote against them. McCain had the nerve to criticize Trump for answering a Muslim Gold Star Father at the Democrat Convention. The father used the death of his son, an Army Captain, to attack Trump’s proposed policy of vetting Muslim immigrants. We all know one Muslim US soldier’s brave sacrifice has nothing to do with protecting the US from Muslim terrorists. We do not like being manipulated. Semper Fi.

LD20 PC Wes Harris: The Democrat Party is making a big to do about Donald Trump's response to the unwarranted attacks by Kair Khan and his son Capt. Khan's death.  Well there has been a great deal of warranted 'push back' by a great number of people but of all of those that I have heard or read, this is Wow: Blue Star Mom Responds To Muslim Father’s Attacks On Trump, And It’s Absolutely Brutal is the most compelling and 'spot on'.  We cannot let these members of the Nationalist Socialist (Democrat) Party steal this election with their lying propaganda and we need to use Social Media to do so as the MSM is in bed with the Socialists (another name for Communists).  This latest is a move to take our eye off of Islam and the insanity of its followers...Muslims.  I'm sorry but if you follow Islam, you are not in favor of liberty, life, and our U.S. Constitution.  Capt. Khan was an exception but his father is not.  McCain again comes down on the wrong side of the issue...of course he is trying to have us forget that he is complicit in the Syrian Civil War by siding with terrorists and even having his picture taken with them.  He is a demagogue of the lowest order and must be retired.  Contact: wwharris@msn.com

Phoenix City Councilman Sal DiDiccio: Black Lives Matter Protests Cost Phoenix Police Department $247,996, Diverted Valuable Resources Away From Other Police Functions And Serial Killer Investigation - The Black Lives Matter (BLM) protesters who shut down Phoenix streets and tried to block a freeway cost hardworking taxpayers $247,996, according to newly released numbers from the Phoenix Police Department (see below.) This extra $200k does not include the tens of thousands of dollars lost by local businesses who lost customers or had to close early due to the threats made by protesters. Equally as concerning, Phoenix police had to call in a SWAT team from Glendale to respond to a call because our officers were occupied covering the protest. This shows a complete disrespect for the taxpayer and our great police department. This disrespect can easily be added up. Add up the loss of taxpayer monies, the cost to local small business owners, the waste of limited police resources, and the fact that the protesters refused to change the date of their protest as it occurred the day after we lost those brave police heroes in Dallas. To be clear, I am a fierce proponent of free speech and people’s right to protest, but the way the protesters exercised their rights squandered critical resources away from the serial killer investigation and our community.

Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas today announced that the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP) has initiated its annual statewide selection process. As part of the program, two Arizona high school students will join 102 other delegates March 4-11, 2017 for the program’s 55th annual Washington Week. Since its inception in 1962, more than 5,500 students have participated in this unique leadership program, which every year brings two students from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity to Washington. While there, students experience an intensive weeklong educational program that highlights the workings of the U.S. Senate and the federal government as a whole. USSYP is sponsored by the Senate and fully funded by the Hearst Foundations — no government funds are utilized. Each of the 104 student delegates will receive a $10,000 undergraduate college scholarship in addition to the all-expenses-paid trip to the nation’s capital. Last year, Lydia Chew from Hamilton High School in Chandler and Ryley Goulet from Mesquite High School in Gilbert were selected as the Arizona delegates. In addition to outstanding leadership abilities and a strong commitment to volunteer work, the student delegates generally rank academically in the top one percent of their states among high school juniors and seniors.  Potential delegates must be juniors or seniors and elected student officers for the 2016-2017 academic year, and they must reside and attend school in Arizona. Eligibility considerations may also be made for student representatives elected or selected (by a panel, commission or board) to district, regional or state-level civic or educational organizations where the delegate is serving a constituency in a high-level leadership position for the entire 2016-2017 academic year.   Names of students selected will be formally announced mid-December. Interested Arizona students should visit www.azed.gov/oci/ussyp/ or contact Alexis Burkhart Program Manager (602) 542-3309 alexis.burkhart@azed.gov Details www.ussenateyouth.org.

The CEO Of The Democratic National Committee Will Resign Today In The Wake Of The Committee's Hacked Email Scandal. Amy Dacey is the highest-ranking official at the DNC to step aside due to the controversy, a senior Democratic official said, but is not the only one. The official did not provide further details. Dacey is well-respected by Hillary Clinton's campaign and the DNC circle, a source familiar with the resignation said. The committee is looking to clean house in the wake of leaked emails that appeared to show the committee favoring Clinton over Bernie Sanders during the primary. Former DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned after the party's convention last week as a result of the revelations.

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS

300 word limit policy. If statements exceeds the limit, it will be edited.

Sen Jeff Flake’s Round up: Preventing Infrastructure Failure at Border: CBS 5 in Phoenix is reporting that Sens. Flake and McCain have successfully spurred the administration into action to evaluate structural damage to the Grand Tunnel that runs below the DeConcini Land Port of Entry in Nogales. If left unrepaired, the tunnel could collapse endangering the lives of motors and workers, and hindering cross-border trade. Read the full story here.

Key Takeaway: “The General Services Administration said in a statement it will launch the study of the tunnel under the Nogales, Arizona, crossing next month. The announcement came after U.S. Sens. John McCain and Jeff Flake sent a letter to the GSA last week warning a tunnel collapse would hurt cross-border trade and tourism. Officials have previously said such a collapse could cause cave-ins sending motorists and their cars plunging into the tunnel and prompt the closing of the Dennis DeConcini Port of Entry crossing.”

Protecting Tribal Artifacts: Sen. Flake joined Sen. Martin Heinrich to announce growing support for their Safeguard Tribal Objects of Patrimony (STOP) Act. This bill would prohibit the exporting of sacred Native American items and increase penalties for stealing and illegally trafficking tribal cultural patrimony. Read the full story here.

Key Takeaway: "I am pleased to join my colleagues in this bipartisan effort to stop the illegal trafficking of sacred Native American artifacts," said Sen. Flake. "These culturally significant and historical objects belong with the tribes, not the highest bidder." - – Borrowed from Flake’s newsletter.

US Sen John McCain, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today on the U.S. Air Force declaration that the 34th Fighter Squadron, based at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, has reached initial operational capability with the F-35A Lightning II aircraft: “The F-35A’s achievement of initial operational capability is another important milestone in the Joint Strike Fighter program and all to the credit of the hard-working Airmen of the 388th and 419th fighter wings at Hill Air Force Base.  But for the most expensive weapons system in history, the road ahead remains long. The Senate Armed Services Committee will continue to exercise rigorous oversight of the Joint Strike Fighter program’s long-delayed System Development and Demonstration phase as well as the start of the operational test and evaluation phase. These next steps are critical to verifying the F-35A’s ability to successfully recapitalize our aging and increasingly vulnerable fighter force structure.  Learning the lessons from this program’s failures and those of too many others, the Senate Armed Services Committee will continue to press forward with reforms to our cumbersome defense acquisition to ensure taxpayer dollars are spent efficiently and our warfighters can safely and effectively perform their missions.”

Sen John McCain, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today on the Obama Administration’s cooperation with Russia in Syria: “It is morally reprehensible that the Obama administration continues to pursue cooperation with Vladimir Putin in Syria at the same time Russian forces prop up the murderous Assad regime. In recent days, Russian and Syrian regime aircraft have mercilessly bombed hospitals, markets, and aid warehouses to force the citizens of Aleppo to surrender. Now there are reports that the Assad regime has once again used chlorine gas against Syrian civilians, yet another reminder that the Assad regime has still not given up all of its chemical weapons, as international monitors have acknowledged. The United States must not be complicit in allowing Assad to reconsolidate power and legitimizing Russia’s expanded influence in the Middle East, which will only lead to more refugees, more instability, and more terror. The Obama administration’s policy in Syria has long been a failure. And its persistent delusions of Russia as a partner in Syria have been nothing short of embarrassing for our nation. But it will be to the everlasting shame of this President and his administration if we do not change course now.”

CANDIDATE COMMENTARY

Maricopa County Schools Supt Don Covey: Why I’m Seeking Re-Election – I have had the honor to serve as Maricopa County Superintendent of Schools for the past seven years. During my tenure, we have raised the bar for student achievement, regional partnerships, and empowering our school districts through local control. We have made tremendous progress but there is still work to be done in order to provide the highest-quality education our parents and students deserve, which is why I’ve decided to seek reelection on August 30. I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished and wanted to take this opportunity to share with you a few of the innovative reforms and programs we’ve implemented:

• Provided pay raises for effective educators in eleven school districts.
• Secured $110 million in grants to Maricopa County education systems creating educator training programs, a decision support data system, and an exemplary practice video bank.
• Re-engineered the school governing board appointment process to give more control to the local community.
• Connected 10 rural and underserved urban schools to STEM professional role models to institute higher-quality STEM instruction.

• Provided pay raises for effective educators in eleven school districts.

• Collaborated with local businesses and education leaders to produce STEM school guides that are being used across the country.

Congresswoman Martha McSally today released her first ad of the 2016 cycle, "Dad." The ad takes a personal look at McSally's early life and how the sudden loss of her father has influenced her mindset to give back and make a difference. "This ad really gets to the heart of what drives Martha," said McSally Campaign Manager Weston McKee. "The tragic experience of losing her dad at a young age played such an important role in motivating her to serve in uniform, take on the Pentagon and stand up for female service members, and, now, fight for Southern Arizonans in Congress. It's a personal yet powerful message about who she is." The McSally for Congress Campaign announced last week it was reserving over $350,000 in paid advertising in August. The six-figure buy will have broad reach on both broadcast and cable TV, with an emphasis on highly-rated Olympic programming. The buy also includes cable programming beyond just news as well as Pima and Cochise County radio, reaching diverse audiences across multiple networks and formats.
