AzRA Members Win Victories: While not a perfect night, overall AzRA members experienced victories in the August 30 Primary. The moneyed elites spent millions of dollars with a huge investment of IT resources - and experienced loss after loss - especially in the fight for control of the State Senate. Three of four O'Brewercrats that joined the Dems to pass Obamacare expansion will no longer be in office. The highlight was the resounding victory of Frank Schmuck over Senator Jeff Dial. While that result shocked many, key victories by Paul Gosar, Warren Peterson, Travis Grantham, Steve Montenegro, David Stringer and Paul Mosley will prove crucial for passage of conservative policies over the next two years. Nearly 500 Arizonans have taken the AzRA Membership Pledge over the last two years. We take pride in the victories of 24 AzRA Members who won their Primary Election for the Legislature on Tuesday.

Congressman Paul Gosar: I am honored to once again secure the support and trust of the good people of Arizona's Fourth Congressional District. Time after time our electorate has proven to be one of the smartest in the country by rejecting outside money and blatant lies from Washington special interest groups. Our voters again refused to be fooled and instead responded favorably to our positive issue oriented campaign focused on delivering results and standing up for the American people. I would like to commend Ray Strauss and his team for running a formidable campaign and being a tough competitor. I would like to thank everyone that cast a ballot in the primary and allowed their voice to be heard. Finally, I would like to thank all my supporters and volunteers for making this victory possible. It is a privilege to be your Representative. I look forward to serving you in the 115th Congress.
Arizona’s Balladeer Dolan Ellis: "The Arizona Folklore Preserve", in beautiful Ramsey Canyon, opens for its 22nd season this weekend. I will be taking the stage at 2 pm on Saturday and Sunday with a special presentation about the "History of Ballads and Balladeers", along with stories of my incredible 50 year journey as "Arizona's Official State Balladeer". I think that you will find this to be a very informative and entertaining show. The program will include my epic ballad of, "The Pleasant valley War", which tells the story of Arizona's little known but very violent sheep and cattle war, along with accompanying large screen photography of the hidden and historic "Sheep Bridge", (A 476 foot long suspension bridge over the Verde River.) I will also have the audience join me in song and photography, as we embark on a fun and interesting musical trip to Nogales, Mexico, We will visit several historic and romantic places and I will serenade you with the classic 1908 love ballad, "Spanish is the Loving Tongue". Come, laugh and learn, as you enjoy the deep green beauty of Ramsey Canyon (5300 elev.) and its abundant bird life and wildlife. (www.arizonafolklore.com ) Suggested lodging is at the "Ramsey Canyon Inn Bed and Breakfast" (in the canyon), or at the "Windemere Hotel.
Former Maricopa County Sheriff Candidate Dan Saban: My Campaign Treasurer Beth Saban made an official written request to the Secretary of State (SOS) on Aug 8, 2016 to obtain the Maricopa County registered Republican, Independent, and PND voters email database. Here’s what happened:
· Aug 9 - Beth received confirmation from SOS Elections Project Specialist Renada Fisher.
· Aug 11 - Beth requested a status update. No response. Several hours later another request was emailed. Fisher responded with a cut and paste of her original confirmation.
Beth contacted Marin, Assistant to the Director of Elections Services Eric Spencer. Spencer was in a meeting.
Beth received a call from Spencer stating that he considered the request to be "commercial" in nature and not "non-commercial" as indicated in the request (I considered it to be "non-commercial"; since we would not be utilizing the emails for the sales of products, goods or services) and that he was denying the request as "non-commercial". That, if "commercial", he would have to charge for the information.
Beth again contacted Spencer and asked the cost to purchase said email database and approximately how many emails would be available for our requested demographic.
That evening Spencer contacted Beth and stated that he had to wait until Monday (Aug 15) for a staff member to return to work to answer the question regarding how many emails we were requesting and that he did not know how much it would be, but that he sent that request to "legal" for their input on the charges. Beth was told that he would contact her as soon as he had any information (i.e., don't call us, we will call you).
· Aug 29 @ 6:05pm (17 days later AND 12 hours before the polls open). Spencer called Beth to advise her that for a mere $300 we would be permitted to have an electronic version of the email addresses (260,000+) as early as tomorrow (Aug 30).
The untimely response from the SOS office has prohibited the Dan Saban for Sheriff of Maricopa County 2016 this very useful campaigning resource; which should have been readily available.
Editor’s Note: Briefs asked Spencer about the delay. Spencer’s response: “The Secretary of State’s office processed the request as expeditiously as possible. August 29th was the date when our vendor made the data available to the Secretary of State’s office and we received legal advice from the Attorney General’s office on how much to charge for the data. Any allegation that the production was somehow delayed for political reasons is absolutely, 100% false.” Contact: (602) 542-8683 firstname.lastname@example.org
Former CD1 candidate Wendy Rogers: Though I've said "Thank you" many times over the course of the campaign, I can never say it enough, or say it eloquently enough to express how much I appreciate you all being with us over the past eight months. Still, I couldn't let this campaign formally end without saying one more time: THANK YOU to all of you who supported me in my bid to represent AZ-1. Losing is never easy, but I am proud of the hard-working and rigorously truthful campaign that we ran, and I hope I made all of you proud to be a part of it. I am happy to be able to return to marketing our small business and having the time to enjoy my family again. Hal and our kids have understood my desire to serve and supported me every step of the way. Both of our kids have married well and our grandchildren are such a blessing. Life is good - so much the more for those of us who are fortunate enough to live, work, and raise our families in this great country. I look forward to finding new ways to serve America in the future.
Newly re-elected Chandler City Councilwoman Nora Ellen: The results are in and I’m so excited and grateful to share with you that all of our hard work and dedication paid off as I received the most votes in the election, over 16,873 votes, which is more than enough to win my seat outright and bypass the run-off. Whew! I can’t begin to thank you enough for letting me email you my updates and for your support for my re-election campaign. My next term on the Chandler Council is going to have an even greater focus on promoting job development, growing our economy and keeping our neighborhoods safe and beautiful, thanks to you! I’m humbled and honored by the amazing amount of support I received and will work tirelessly to demonstrate that the voters of Chandler made the right decision by honoring me with another opportunity to serve them on the city council.
