12-22-16 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor       Web Master John Strasser

Congresswoman Martha McSally will ring the Salvation Army Bell from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. outside the Fry’s on Houghton Rd. in Tucson. The Salvation Army red kettle tradition began in 1891 in San Francisco as a way to raise the resources needed to provide a Christmas dinner for those in need. It has since grown across the United States and throughout the world. Today, the Salvation Army assists more than four-and-a-half million people during the Thanksgiving and Christmas time periods.

The Surprise Tea Party Patriots will meet at 6:30 pm., Tues., Jan 3 in the Grand Canyon Room of the SCW Foundation, 14465 R.H. Johnson Blvd. Forster Morgan, the youngest elector in the US to vote for Donald J Trump, will speak about his experience as an elector and how to encourage young people to become involved in the political system. Morgan is the son of immediate past LD22 Chairman Eric Morgan and his wife Heather. Contact: Jean Goncalves, Publicity Chairlady, 623-214-80101

Arizona Town Crier Jim Ely: Taken from the MCRC Briefs“With The Incidents coming to light from various LDs, PCs can only wonder how many LDs received a letter similar to the one AZGOP Robert Graham delivered to LD23. See Graham to O'Connor 12-9-16. Briefs sent a message to Graham at 9:45 pm, Sunday evening and resent it again about 2 pm Tuesday afternoon, asking if any other LDs received a similar letter. Graham has not responded at post time. One must wonder about the definition of ‘leadership’.  Take Robert Graham for example.  Who is Graham?  How many State Committeemen have the same physical build as Graham?  How many State Committeemen have the same IQ as Graham?  How many State Committeemen have approximately the same personality as Graham?  What did Graham do or say or have that caused him to be elected a Chairman for the AZ GOP for the second time?  Apparently he has run afoul of the membership a number of times, ignored or used the autocratic AZ GOP bylaws to his desires, and still calls all the shots for the party and looks like no one is doing a thing about it, not even the AZ GOP executive committee or AzRA, who has wanted to do something to help the party.  So, does one blame Graham for doing his own thing, or the voters who put him there???  It’s been years and years that the AZ GOP chair has run the show instead of the membership, so what is the new AZ GOP chair next year going to be like?  It’s been noted that Graham is not going to run for a 3rd time for the chair, but has already picked his successor.  If his pick is elected, will we see more years of an autocratic AZ GOP chair or a chair to represent the membership???  The Republican Party is still short of membership and full of RINOs. Remember, leadership starts at the top!

LD23 PC Boe James: I disagree with much of what Lynn Breyer wrote in the Dec 11 Briefs 12_11_16 Briefs archive and December 14th Briefs 12_14_16 Briefs archive, however, I do agree with her Dec 11th statement: "...I doubt any one of them voted against anyone, including Dr. Wright or Mark Lewis, both admirable men...".   It is not possible to vote against anyone.  Many of the PCs simply (maybe blindly) voted their ballots and their proxies for the PCs on the slate handed out. In LD23, All PCs on the slate (and none others) were elected as State Committeemen (SC).  Some of the “ghost” or “paper” PCs elected as State Committeemen have never been to a meeting and might even not have known that they were on the slate.  Doug Little (former LD23 Chair, now elected state official), Gayla Coletto (former District Treasurer and 2016 RNC convention delegate), Mark Lewis, Dr. CT Wright, Paula and Bruce Linker, Rosemary Hansen, Larry and Joanna Hagan (former President of a Republican Women's club), Chris Brant, and Mary Ryan are all long-time involved and active volunteers who were not on “the slate” and thus not elected.  Other long-time active PCs simply decided not to run figuring they could not compete against ghost PCs and the "in crowd".  Many long time active former PCs/SCs have gotten so tired of the antics in LD 23 that they have simply dropped out and decided not to be PCs any more.   I personally doubt if some of the newly elected State Committeemen have done much (if any) campaign work.   But that is life and we will live with it.   LD23 is obviously not the only LD with problems.  Perhaps the County and State party leadership ought to seriously look in the process and reshape it in the future.

Governor Ducey’s Youth Commissioners Collected more than 1,300 toys statewide for Arizona foster care youth through the Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family. Toys, books, clothing, and other essentials collected in Phoenix will be delivered to needy children through Arizona Helping Hands, a Phoenix-based nonprofit. Items collected outside the Phoenix metropolitan area will be donated to local foster care support services. The Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family in partnership with the Council on Child Safety and Community Empowerment, Chaired by Angela Ducey, set-up a Christmas tree in the lobby of the State Capitol decorating it with items that Arizona foster care children need. GOYFF and the Council collected more than 300 items through the month of December. The Governor’s Youth Commission worked with youth across Arizona to collect more than 1,000 items in all fifteen counties leading Arizona in meaningful service during this holiday season. Evan Grace, Maricopa County Governor’s Youth Commissioner, delivered two boxes of toys to the Christian Family Care Agency, a local nonprofit organization that serves foster care families. Commissioners will be delivering their toys to foster care facilities in their respective counties. “I am inspired by the generosity and support displayed by Arizona communities. What a wonderful way to honor the spirit of the holidays – bringing huge smiles to families in need,” stated Debbie Moak Director of the Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family. “I would like to personally thank all the community members who supported the toy drives and Arizona’s foster care families.”

Congressman Paul Gosar: WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2017: PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD clip_image002TRUMP

The 2016 election will be remembered as the year of the silent majority in America putting a stop to business as usual in Washington D.C. After more than eight years of tax and spend politicians living in a bubble and ignoring the real concerns of millions of Americans, Donald Trump offered an alternative path forward, fighting to end the status quo infecting our political process. Simply put, under the Obama Administration the federal government stopped working for “we the people.” It grew out of control with federal agencies more concerned with increasing their own power in order to help special interest groups than focusing on the needs of the American people. The Obama Administration repeatedly attempted to force its extremist agenda down our throats by openly violating the law and working to undermine our Constitutional separation of powers. All the while, hard-working, law-abiding, American citizens continued to work longer hours while not seeing their paychecks increase at all. Small business owners, farmers and ranchers saw their bottom lines shrink while taxes and regulations skyrocketed. Donald Trump understood these frustrations and ran a commonsense campaign focused on standing up for everyday workers, veterans and most importantly, the Rule of Law. I endorsed Donald Trump because he recognized from the very start of his campaign that open borders and illegal immigration were – and still are – the number one threat to our nation’s security. The actions and flawed immigration policies of the Obama Administration have violated the first and foremost role of the federal government: to defend our homeland and protect our citizens. Donald Trump ran his campaign on increasing border security, enforcing the laws on our books and cracking down on illegal immigration, all of which I fully support. The American people have entrusted the leadership of this country to Mr. Trump and I will work with him to deliver meaningful results that will improve the lives of all Americans. For my part, I plan on working closely with the Trump Administration to build a safer America that works for everyone and empowers individual liberty, not big government control.

Senator John McCain, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, on the Chief of Naval Operations’ decision to restore ratings titles: “The Chief of Naval Operations made the right decision in restoring Navy rating titles. Revoking these titles, many of which have been a part of the Navy’s identity for centuries, defied basic common sense and distracted from the real challenges confronting the men and women serving in our Navy. Unfortunately, this was not an isolated incident of pointless policy tinkering. A number of other recent policy changes also appear to have been made with shallow analysis and unnecessary urgency. I look forward to working with the next Secretary of Defense and service secretaries to review these personnel policy changes and roll them back where necessary and appropriate.”

Senator John McCain, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, on reports that Russia, Iran and Turkey met in Moscow without the United States to discuss the conflict in Syria: “Reports indicate that Russia, Iran and Turkey met in Moscow without the United States to decide the fate of Syria. That the Syrian people will be left to the tender mercies of Bashar Assad, Vladimir Putin, Qasem Soleimani, and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is the predictable consequence of President Obama’s reckless policy of disengagement from the Middle East. And it is ironic that after touting the power of diplomacy for years, President Obama’s refusal to back diplomacy with strength has left the United States without even a seat at the diplomatic table.”
