Editor’s Note: Please, a few prayers for Vera’s second surgery. - ft

AZGOP Chair Candidate Jim O’Connor: My compliments to Jonathan Lines for maintaining a respectful tone in yesterday’s article in the Briefs. However I am compelled to note that I was not a part of the Alex Meluskey campaign, because as District Chairman I maintained a neutral position during the primary election. See 12-28-16-briefs

LD20 PC/State Committeman Marianne Ferrari: Thanks to the Briefs editor for reminding us of the “ugly, well-remembered Establishment efforts, two years ago, to crush grassroots candidate for chairman, Lori Urban.” That was the day I realized there was a deep fissure within our party—establishment vs. grassroots. Now, with Sonoran Alliance's hit piece--unsupported by facts--we are seeing even worse attacks on Jim O'Connor, the grassroots change candidate who's running for AZ GOP chair. Divisions like the one we've suffered for years are what make change elections inevitable. Trump’s huge victory has thrust America into an exciting time of change, of unification, of growth and optimism, and it’s already happening locally, in our election for AZGOP chairman. Jim O’Connor is the change candidate who will unify and strengthen the GOP in Arizona. He’s already done it as chairman of LD23, where he grew PC membership from just over 200 to 356, and turned that LD into a unified and effective political unit. With his combination of character and skills, Jim will do it again, for the state GOP. Both of the other candidates for chairman are creatures of the system. Jonathan Lines and Frank Thorwald both have substantial resumes of work within the GOP party structure—both ongoing contributors to the status quo. But that status quo is what’s perpetuating the ugly rift in our party. That status quo is the brake that's been hindering real conservatives who run for office. If there ever was a time for change, now is that time. As nice as both Lines and Thorwald are when you meet them, one has to ask oneself: When have I ever seen a member of the Establishment do anything but support the entrenched status quo?

The annual Capitol Prayer Walk is scheduled at 7 am., Mon. Jan 9 – the opening day of the 2017 legislative session, at the Arizona state Ca[otp;.700 W Washington St. in Phoenix. Participants will meet at the Capitol flagpole. Dress warm, wear comfortable shoes and bring your Bible. Click here information.
