1-17-16 Briefs

Monday, January 18 is Martin Luther King Day.

No 1-16-16 Briefs were posted due to the length of the Jan 16 MCRC Mandatory meeting.

Maricopa County Republican Committeemen Passed the “Anyone BUT John McCain” Resolution by a 921-582 ballot vote during the Sat., Jan 16., mandatory meeting in Phoenix. This resolution follows the 2014 censure of the elderly senior senator by both the Maricopa County Republicans and the State Committeemen at the AZGOP state meeting. The 30 year senator is running for his six term in Washington, DC. Maricopa County is the largest Republican County in the nation via voter registration and the nation’s four largest county by population counts.

At Least 32 Volunteers Are Needed at 6:45 am Sat., Jan 23 to gather petition signatures necessary to take a similar “Anyone BUT John McCain  resolution and a “Censure AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham” resolution to the floor during the AZGOP State Committeeman Mandatory meeting scheduled at the Grace Community Church, 1200 East Southern Avenue, Tempe, AZ  85282. Petitions will be gathered in the parking lot prior to the opening of the meeting.  320 state committeemen signatures from at least four (4) counties are required to take the resolutions to the floor.  For signature forms or more information contact State Committeeman AJ LaFaro, LD18 PC at 480-752-9164  or

AZGOP State Committeemen’s Resolution To

Censure Chairman Robert Graham

We, the State Committeemen of the Arizona Republican Party (AZGOP), from which Chairman Robert Graham was elected, are obligated to hold all of our leaders accountable for their actions.  Only in times of great crisis or betrayal is it necessary to publicly censure our leaders. Today we are faced with both in as much Robert Graham is by far one of the worst Party Chairman the AZGOP has ever endured.  So with conviction we rise and declare:

WHEREAS, Chairman Robert Graham

·       has continued to violate the Arizona Revised Statutes, the Bylaws of the Arizona Republican Party and several of the County and Legislative District Republican Committees; and

·       has repeatedly disregarded and disrespected the will of an overwhelming majority of the AZGOP State and Precinct Committeemen; and

·       has conducted dictatorial actions that have been a calculated and insidious conspiracy to purge grassroots and conservative Republicans from the AZGOP for his personal benefit, the benefit of his cronies and the Republican establishment cabal.

  • BE IT RESOLVED that Robert Graham’s constant intimidation, bullying, overreach and unilateral policies will no longer be tolerated;
  • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED the AZGOP State Committeemen have lost confidence in Robert Graham and will no longer support him or his actions;
  • BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED the AZGOP State Committeemen censures Robert Graham for his continued disservice to our Party, State and Nation.

AZGOP State Committeemen Endorse

Anyone BUT Senator John McCain

We state committeemen of the Arizona Republican Party (AZGOP) fully support our Party

platform and the candidates in the general elections that support that platform. However, in the

primary elections we are free to endorse and support the Republican candidates of our choice.

Since the AZGOP members overwhelmingly censured Senator McCain in January 2014, we had

hoped he would have returned to our Party’s values. He has not. So with conviction we rise and

WHEREAS, Senator McCain is a self proclaimed “Republican”, but is actually a RINO, that

·       was censured by the Arizona Republican State Committeemen on January 25, 2014; and

·       voted for DHS funding that included money for Obama’s illegal amnesty for illegal aliens; and

·       campaigned on securing the border but co-sponsored legislation giving “pathway to citizenship” to millions of illegal aliens; and

·       actively worked to purge the party of grassroots conservatives using out-of-state funding via the Arizona Grassroots Action PAC; and

·       voted to kill an amendment requiring certification that Iran has not directly supported or carried out an act of terrorism against the United States before sanctions can be lifted; and

·       demeaned Republicans who stand for the Constitution, calling them “crazies” and “wacko birds”; and

·       voted to support funding for the Iran Nuclear Deal, Obamacare, Executive Amnesty and Planned Parenthood’s selling of body parts.
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the AZGOP state committeemen endorse anyone BUT Senator McCain in Arizona’s 2016 Republican primary election for the U.S. Senate.

The Above Resolution was e-mailed to AZGOP officials  Robert Graham, Chad Heywood, Gabby Saucedo-Mercer, Chris Campbell and Linda White on November 24, 2015  in  accordance with the Continuing Bylaws of the Arizona Republican Party Article III Section H. Resolutions. The Resolution was submitted 45 days prior to the annual meeting and should have gone to the AZGOP Resolution Committee Chairman/Committee member no later than Dec 7, 2015 with an e-mail acknowledgement of receipt being sent to LaFaro at  However, Graham reportedly did not convene a Resolution Committee, therefore, making it necessary for the resolution to  be brought to the floor at the Jan 23 AZGOP meeting.

The Maricopa County Republican Committee Mandatory Meeting became a  “endurance marathon” yesterday (Sat., Jan 16)  as it ran into record setting, butt numbing 10.5 hours long – mostly due to disruptions and bickering over a variety of issues.  The regular meeting ran from 9 am to shortly before 6 pm., before five new members-at-large – Wes Harris, Tom Morrissey, Linda Brickman, Mark Spencer and Josha Ashley were elected and the proposed resolutions were passed.  The day was at least two to three hours longer for those who gathered for credentials training prior to the meeting, as well as those who directed traffic in the parking lot.

The ‘special meeting’  (scheduled to start at 2:30 pm)to deal with the proposed removal of Chairman Tyler Bower, First Vice Chair Jeni White, and Second Vice Chair Aaron Borders was finally called to order at approximately 6 pm. The meeting adjourned about 7:30 pm., after the ballot tally report announcement that Bowyer would remain the MCRC chairman by a vote of 1037-636.  Borders was removed by a vote of 1070 and 640.  White became Saturday’s  two-time loser with a loss of 1083 to 692 in the removal tally.

Earlier in the day, White – who was nominated from the floor during the regular meeting for a Member-At-Large position by AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham - lost the MAL bid when her vote tally came in at 245 compared to the top winners who mostly garnered 900 plus votes - which threw top winners into a run-off vote the resulted in Harris, Morrissey, Brickman, Spencer and Ashley being sworn into office by County Recorder Helen Purcell. Purcell, who was in charge of the ballots and vote counting, brought in automatic voting machines from the Recorder’s office.  Two vetted PCs were assigned to check credentials and ballots prior to anyone being allowed to insert ballots into the machines – which were also monitored by Purcell’s team.

The “special” meeting was barely called to order before a motion was made from the floor to suspend the removal election and adjourn the meeting, which resulted in considerable delay following a division of the house called after two voice votes have been taken by Dan Grimm, (who conducting the meeting) , regarding election suspension or adjournment. The LD caucuses resulted in the continuation of the meeting. White and a couple of her supporters tried to derail the removal elections with challenges that were fended off by Grimm, and Parlimentarian Joe Abate, attorney and long-time, well-respected GOP activist.

As White and her supporters peppered the podium with challenges, one PC turned to Briefs, commenting, “I came prepared to vote with them, but the way they are behaving …” Shortly thereafter, that PC walked out of the meeting.  More tomorrow - ft

MCRC Communications Director Jake Hoffman: Nearly Two Years After The Maricopa County GOP And Arizona GOP formally censured Senator John McCain, the Precinct Committeemen of the Republican Party of Maricopa County overwhelmingly passed a resolution to support “anyone but McCain” in the 2016 Arizona GOP US senate primary.  “The ‘Anyone But McCain’ sentiment expressed by the grassroots Republicans perfectly mirrors the dissatisfaction of the millions of everyday Arizonans who are tired of an out-of-control federal government,” said Republican Party of Maricopa County Chairman Tyler Bowyer. “From the commentary of many activists, Senator McCain’s recent vote to increase the national debt to more than $20 trillion, while fully funding Planned Parenthood was a clear message that he is more inclined to choose President Obama and Harry Reid over the will of the Arizona voters in order to retain his D.C. establishment power.”  Nearly 2,000 Republican Precinct Committeemen were represented at the County GOP’s annual meeting on Sat, Jan 16. The ‘Anyone But McCain’ resolution passed by a vote of 921 to 582. The Republican Party of Maricopa County is the official arm of the Republican Party in Maricopa County, Arizona, representing more than 710,000 registered Republican voters.  As the nation's fourth largest county, by population, and the largest Republican county, by voter registration, Maricopa County represents a conservative cornerstone in the national social, fiscal and political dialogue.  – MCRC Com Dir Jake Hoffman

LD23 Chairman Jim O’Connor Recap: If you were unable to be at the Maricopa County Republican Committee meeting on Saturday, you missed an unusual and interesting meeting.  The meeting opened with a moving performance by The Buffalo Soldiers in period costume.

The Mandatory Meeting ran as these meetings usually do with point and counter point, inspiring speakers from among our elected officials and the usual back and forth of parliamentary procedure.  A quorum was established with 1995 PCs present in person or by proxy.  LD23 had the highest number of precinct committeemen present in person or by proxy.

Voting results:  It took three votes to elect five Members-at-Large. No one candidate received a majority on the first vote.  Of the original list of candidates, one, Ed Pellegrino, had withdrawn after the ballots were printed and there was one candidate, Jeni White, nominated from the floor.  The newly elected MAL: Linda Brickman,  Tom Morrissey,  Wes Harris,  Mark Spencer, and  Josh Askey.  Members-at-Large were sworn in by County Recorder Helen Purcell.

Resolutions:  All resolutions presented on the ballot passed, including one accidentally left off the ballot.  Three Resolutions were brought from the floor:

·       A Resolution to endorse Anyone But McCain was approved by a wide majority of those present in person or by proxy.

·       A Resolution to have an outside company audit the financial records annually.  The MCRC Bylaws already call for an audit annually and whenever the financial records are transferred from one Treasurer to another.  The Resolution failed.

·       A Resolution to develop a Victory Plan to win elections for the Republicans also passed.

The regular meeting was adjourned at approximately 5:30 pm.

The Special Meeting to recall Chairman Tyler Bowyer, 1st Vice-Chair Jeni White, and 2nd Vice-Chair Aaron Borders was then Called to Order.  Bowyer recused himself from the proceedings and appointed Dan Grimm to run the meeting.  That meeting was contested, motions to immediately adjourn without doing any business were made, points of order were brought to the floor and other parliamentary procedures were introduced from the floor requiring active participation by the Parliamentarian.  Finally the vote was held.

·       Chairman Tyler Bowyer was retained.

·       1st Vice-Chair Jeni White was recalled.

·       2nd Vice-Chair Aaron Borders was recalled. With all business completed, the meeting adjourned at approximately 7:20 pm.

A meeting of the Executive Guidance Council will be called to appoint new officers to fill those vacancies.

Just a final note.  It takes a lot of volunteers across the county and in every district who work very diligently to produce these meetings.  I thank each and every one of our county volunteers who put forth the effort of time and treasure to make these meetings happen, with a special thanks to those of our LD23 PCs who participated.  It's a thankless task and they performed admirably and cheerfully under pressure to solve problems on the fly and make everything work. – LD23 Chairman Jim O’Connor

President Barack Obama Hailed The Powers Of Diplomacy In Dealing With Iran, as the nuclear deal struck with the government in Tehran takes effect and "unjustly detained" Americans return home after a prisoner swap. "Engaging directly with the Iranian government on a sustained basis, for the first time in decades, has created a unique opportunity, a window, to resolve important issues," Obama said from the White House during a rare Sunday public statement. He called the new agreement with Iran a "milestone" in making sure it doesn't get a nuclear weapon. "We've now closed off every single path Iran had to building a (nuclear) bomb," he said. "We'll know if Iran ever tries to break out."

LD20 2nd Vice Chair Wes Harris: Yesterday at the Maricopa County Republican meeting a Resolution "Anybody But McCain" passed by about 63%. Many who did not vote for it stated they agreed with the content but wanted to avoid what they thought was conflict.  It is well known that I am not a fan of John McCain.  I consider him a complete fraud and I was joined, again, by my fellow Republican advocates to pass the resolution known as "Anybody But McCain" Saturday night at the mandatory MCRC meeting.  Three years ago I called for the recall of McCain after he took then Rep Michelle Bockman to task on the Senate Floor for simply asking why no one vetted then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's pick for her chief of staff...a confirmed member of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Senate rules prohibit the recall of a sitting Senator so only impeachment or a vote by the Arizona electorate will remove McCain...impeachment time has passed but now we have the other alternative...remove him by voting him out in the upcoming GOP primary.  Even though the MCRC and State P.C.s have admonished McCain for, among other things, not 'building the dang fence' he had the gall to hire an army of millenniums to try and collect signatures for his planned run for another six year term in the Senate.  He did not have the 'gall' to appear in person however and given the large plurality in the vote for "Anybody but..." I am sure he wasted his money on his hired kids.  I also was not surprised that our other Senator...(Jr. McCain) Jeff Flake did not show his face Saturday either.

It is time that we finally send McCain packing and stop believing the miss information that has lead to his many elections in the past.  We can do nothing about the past but we do control the future here.  Vote for "Anybody but McCain.”  Harris was elected as a Member at Large to the MCRC Saturday’s meeting.
