2 Anti-Establishment Censures At AZ GOP Meeting: McCain & Graham  Sat. Jan. 23 Elected State Committeemen Poised To Vote On Anti-Establishment Resolutions …  There has been a lot of discussion and debate as to why Robert Graham should be or shouldn’t be censured.

The AZGOP Mandatory meeting is scheduled to open at 8:58 am., Sat., Jan 23 at the Grace Community Church, 1200 E Southern Ave, Tempe AZ 85282 for all state committeemen - in person or by proxy. The agenda includes election of officers for the non-statutory First, Second, and Third Vice Chairmen, Assistant Secretary, Assistant Treasurer, Sergeant-At-Arms, and Assistant Sergeant-At-Arms position.  Concern has surfaced among state committeemen over the lack of a list of candidate nominees in the call letter. Those sending their proxy to the meeting via other committeemen report they have no way of knowing who to designate their votes should be cast for. Briefs has not received a response at post time to an inquiry to Chairman Robert Graham and his top assistants Chad Heywood and Tim Seifert as to (1) why there was no nominee list in the call letter,  (2) whether a nominating committee was convened and (3) who the nominating committee chair/members are.

As State Committeemen Arrive in the parking lot of the Grace Community Church early Sat., Jan 23 they will be greeted by volunteers asking for petitions signatures to bring two resolutions to the floor during the Mandatory AZGOP meeting.  Petition signatures will be gathered prior to the 8:58 am opening of the meeting.  320 state committeemen signatures - from at least four (4) counties - are required for each of the two resolutions to be brought to the floor for a vote. Signatures are needed for the:

·        “Anyone BUT John McCain” resolution that was passed by the Maricopa County Republican precinct committeemen ballot vote of 921-582 during the Jan 16 county mandatory meeting in Phoenix.

·        “Censure AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham” resolution, specific to the Jan 23 AZGOP meeting, was not addressed during the Maricopa County meeting.

See briefs archives for both full resolutions. For signature forms or information contact LD18 State Committeeman AJ LaFaro at 480-752-9164.

Maricopa County Republican Committee Chairman Tyler Bowyer has announced that an election will be held during the Feb 3, 2016 Executive Guidance Committee (EGC) meeting to fill the vacancies of former First Vice Chair Jen White and former Second Vice Chairman Aaron Borders - who were removed from their positions via a ballot vote cast by Maricopa County precinct committeemen during the Jan 16 Maricopa County Republican Mandatory meeting.  Borders was removed by a vote of 1070 to 640.  PCs voted 1083-692 to remove White. White was also eliminated in the first round of balloting for five member at large positions.  Some of the winning candidates received over 900 votes versus White’s 245 vote tally. AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham nominated White from the floor last Saturday morning. White was presented with Graham’s “Most Outstanding Party Worker in Arizona” Chairman’s Award at the Jan 22 AZGOP Awards dinner.

Bowyer said vice chairmen candidates must be precinct committeemen residing within Maricopa County. Any Maricopa County precinct committeeman/woman wishing to be placed on the ballot for either position should contact Bowyer at tyler@maricopacountygop.com and cc the County Secretary Matt Eberle at matt@maricopacountygop.com as soon as possible.  Nominations will also be accepted from the floor during the Feb 3 meeting.  For more information contact Bowyer at tyler@maricopacountygop.com.

Jennifer Reynolds - Common Core Fighters:  The date has not been set for HB2056 and HB2088 to be heard in the House Education Committee  (possibly Jan 27,  but not confirmed). Please contact the Representatives on this committee to testify in favor of both of these bills. Bill summaries and contact information. --Jennifer Reynolds  arizonansagainstcommoncore.com

ü  HB2056- Parental Opt Out. Requires a form to be developed by the State Board of Education that parents can submit to their principal or teacher to opt out of statewide assessment. Lack of assessment results will not affect school district achievement ranking, school report card, a pupil's ability to be promoted from third grade, or his/her ability to graduate from high school. An alternative, other than a statewide assessment, can be used to determine whether a pupil should be promoted from third grade and/or if they have met the requirements for graduation. hb2056p.htm&Session_ID=115)

ü  HB2088- School Surveys and Assessments Informed Consent. Requires Informed consent for any psychological assessment, such as the Common Core-aligned assessments and others that gather psychological data. Informed consent would also be required for intrusive, inappropriate surveys that question pupils about their sexual practices, or any other private information. This bill protects the pupil from retaliation in any form if the parent does not consent, and the teacher from being evaluated according to pupil participation and results.  hb2088p.htm&Session_ID=115
