Republican Briefs

Editor - Frosty Taylor repcomm@cox.net or frostytaylor@cox.net        Web Master John Strasser

Tempers Are Flaring as word spreads that AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham is going to charge a $50 fee per delegate attending the upcoming state convention to select delegates to the national convention. PC/State Committeemen aren’t buying the excuse from AZGOP flackman Tim Sifert that Graham needs the $50 fee per person or $100 per couple to pay for the rental of the Mesa Convention Center ($25,000 for the day). That way the head shed aka headquarters has more money in the kitty to spend on political campaigns, they say. Sifert emphasizes $50 covers lunch.

Word Has It That Yavapai County PC Richard Hennessey probably gave Graham a king-size headache Sunday afternoon when Hennessey gave Graham a dose of reality from an outlying county PCs perspective – regarding the $50 head fee, poll tax, fleecing or whatever you prefer to call it. Where are the big bucks Graham promised to bring in with his oath of office? Has the headquarters considered what it will cost state committeemen to attend the extra meetings this year? Folks from the four corners of the state have to cough up additional $ for motels and travel expenses. Some of the senior citizens wanting to go to the national convention have been saving for a long time to get the opportunity to attend what is a “once in a lifetime” event for them. ($2,500 minimum to attend the national). Everyday grassroots Republicans don’t live in plush Anthem mansions or high-dollar Scottsdale digs, according to Hennessey.

Graham Says Ohio Charges $100 per head to attend the Ohio convention, which drew fire from Hennessey, “This isn’t Ohio, this is Arizona, and Arizona has never charged.” Hennessey cut his political baby teeth sitting on the lap of former Congressman Sam Steiger – who never hesitated to say what he thought. If Graham doesn’t have a headache, he likely has a ragged ear after Hennessey got done chewing on him via phone.

And Others Are Wondering where Graham is going to put all of those delegates/alternates that could attend the State Convention? It seems there are roughly 1,106 state delegates and additional 1,106 alternates that could attend the event in a location with the capacity to hold 1,600 in the main theatre? See Mesa_Arts_Center Few alternates are likely to attend since they can’t vote… but some want the experience of seeing and being seen.

From A Different Perspective. Do the math. At $50 per head, that leaves quite a chunk of change after the rent is paid, eh??? PCs/state committeemen not only do the heavy lifting (i.e. pounding the sidewalks ) on party campaigns, Graham expects them to pay the freight as well!

Folks Are Still Irritated about being shut out from AZGOP website delegate application last week. You must sign up online, but when they couldn’t get a password they were  are kind of up a creek without a paddle. You can read the rules/regulations at http://arizonagop.org/how-to-become-a-delegate-to-the-2016-state-or-national-conventions/ The delegate application is now accessible (no password required) at http://arizonagop.org/2016-republican-national-convention-delegate-application/

ACTION ALERT: Those Rascals At The Legislature at trying to get their fingers on the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Heritage Fund again. Although the Arizona Heritage Alliance azheritage.org strongly opposed SB1361 – which would move 50% of the AZGFD Heritage habitat acquisition funds to the operations/maintenance on Heritage Fund acquired properties - the Senate Natural Resources Committee unanimously passed it anyway. SB1361 goes to the Senate Appropriations Committee at 2 pm., Tues., Fri 16. As you may recall, the Heritage Fund was approved by a two-to-one margin by Arizona voters in 1990. The funds come from the Arizona Lottery to the Game/Fish Commission/Dept for wildlife/conservation projects. The Legislature and the Governor defunded the Arizona State Parks Heritage Fund in 2010. The 2014 appointed  GF Commission’s “Working Group” recently  recommended that 5% of the Acquisitions funds be moved to O&M, however, the Commission took the Working Group recommendation as permission for the Commission to access 50% the Acquisitions Fund. The GF “Working Group” consists of representatives from the Arizona Heritage Alliance, Arizona Wildlife Federation, Heritage Public Advisory Committee (HPAC), The Nature Conservancy, Sportsmen for Wildlife, Tucson Audubon, and a rancher who manages Horseshoe Ranch, one of the Commission’s more recent purchases. The Alliance and “working group” members ask that you contact your senators to protest this bill. See senate list at http://www.azleg.gov/MemberRoster.asp?Body=S

Editor’s Note: During the 10 years I spent as the GF Heritage Fund Information Officer and later as a Heritage Alliance Board member, I watched repeated legislative attempts to pirate or gain control of the Heritage Fund. After I retired in 2002, I have sadly watched the attempts continue nearly every year since. I lost track after the pirating attempts went beyond 30. Taxpayers who passed the original Heritage Fund Initiative never intended for pols to control those funds. Shame on you! – Editor Frosty Taylor

Superpac Against Trump: 'If It Bleeds We Can Kill It' “…Packer is being supported by a number of GOP bigshots, including John McCain, in order to try to form a steady barrage of anti-Trump messages that will ultimately turn voters against the New York billionaire no one can buy.”

Anti-Trump-Super-Pac-Features-John-McCain “...GOP electorate towards the GOP establishment is bounded between “hate and disgust” on one end of the spectrum and “burn it down and plow salt into the ashes” on the other. John McCain, to most GOP voters, represents the very worst impulses of the GOP establishment: out of touch, devoid of principles, reeking of self-importance, more than likely corrupt.”

U.S. Senator John McCain recently released America’s Most Wasted: Runaway Spending, the fourth in a series of government oversight reports naming and shaming wasteful and outrageous government spending – all paid for by the American taxpayer. The latest report exposes over $27 billion in wasteful federal spending and more than $99 billion in onerous government regulations, including more than $59 million in Department of Defense waste; more than $1.7 billion in waste at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA); $13.27 billion in federal benefit overpayments; more than $1.32 billion and $1 million a year on unnecessary, unused or overpriced government buildings; more than $1 billion in Obamacare waste, including hundreds of thousands of dollars on fake Obamacare accounts; and more than $282 million on questionable federal grants.

“With spending habits like these, Washington should have only one New Year’s resolution in 2016 – to end this dangerous credit addiction,” said McCain. “Unless we act now to put our fiscal house back in order, future generations will bear the burden for our grave mistakes. I commend the work of my colleagues Senators Jeff Flake, Dan Coats, James Lankford, and Pat Toomey who have worked tirelessly to uncover egregious pork in Washington, and hope that others in Congress will join our oversight efforts to kick this spending addiction once and for all.” The report details wasteful, duplicative and inefficient government spending on more than 50 projects, including these “dirty dozen.”

1.      $1 billion lost to failed Obamacare co-ops

2.      $2.3 million on jazz-playing robots

3.      $25,000 on garbage art in Maine

4.      $13,495 for Army National Guardsmen to play bubble soccer

5.      $5,000 on a Hello Kitty study

6.      $600,000 to fund a movie about Mickey Mouse

7.      $1.3 billion in cost overruns on a VA hospital in Colorado

8.      $3,569,879 on winetasting

9.      $104 million in housing subsidies for the wealthy

10.  $10 billion in tax breaks for Hollywood, horse racing and wind

11.  $93,000 on federal french fries

12.  $1,098,805 for the Pentagon’s doggy MRIs

As Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Senator McCain has also been committed to releasing government oversight reports in an effort to rid the Pentagon of waste and mismanagement. To view all America’s Most Wasted reports, click here.

Editor’s Note: Obviously this report has taken hours of research but taxpayers can’t help but wonder why our congressional delegation – some of whom have been there forever, let it happen to begin with??? The Feds waste money like this, along with the excessive amounts of foreign aid that is thrown away every year,… yet many of our senior citizens on can barely survive on their social security checks and we have an abundance of homeless veterans. ft
