2-17-16 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Editor - Frosty Taylor repcomm@cox.net or frostytaylor@cox.net          Web Master John Strasser

Former LD6 Senator Lori Klein has announced her candidacy for Arizona’s National Republican Committeewoman. The former Arizona legislator (2010-12) is a proponent of the First and Second Amendments and fought for school choice. Her current board affiliations include Americans for Fair Tax, The Orange Coalition and Center for Entrepreneurship, Ethics & Enterprise. She is the former Executive Director for Health Care Freedom Act – designed to protect AZ from Obamacare, former Executive Director for Prop 207 – protect property owners passed in 2006, former National Director of Development for Americans for Fair Taxation (2002-2006), served six years as the Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Public Affairs School Choice Trust and was the Executive Director of the Taxpayer Protection Alliance. She is married to Robert K. Corbin, former Arizona Attorney General (1979 – 1992) and former President of the National Rifle Association (1992-1994). The couple reside in Prescott. Contact: Lklein4@gmail.com An Arizona National Republican Committeeman and Arizona National Republican Committee Woman will be elected during the April 30 AZGOP State Convention.

UPDATE: “Whether I became a PC when I moved into my home in a different district is a non-issue because I was a PC when I was elected - although there are those who are trying to make an issue of it,” Maricopa County Republican Chairman Tyler Bowyer told the Briefs today. Bowyer and his family moved from their Chandler home - after it was sold in July 2015 - into LD25 later last summer. Contrary to reports that have circulated for a couple of months, Bowyer says he checked to make sure there was a PC opening in LD25 prior to purchasing and moving his family into the bungalow in Mesa. Bowyer said their prior home sold much quicker than they expected it to. In the process of getting the family settled into their new home, he didn’t get around to filling out his new PC application and changing his registration until in the fall, he explained. “It was, and is,  a ‘non-issue’ because I was a PC when I was elected to office,” he emphasized. During the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors (BOS) last meeting, he was appointed a LD25 PC. The BOS couldn’t not appoint PCs from the cutoff date in November or December until after the January 2016 county/state mandatory meetings.

LD27 Andrew Costanzo: Here is my opinion regarding the AZGOP charging the Republican Delegates for the State Convention.  The AZGOP and I do not share the same principles.

Robert Graham and Tim Sifert want the volunteer delegates to the AZGOP State Convention to pony up $50 each so that Graham, who alleged that he would raise millions of dollars, will be able to elect Republicans in 2016.  Sifert wrote, "... and we do not want to deplete our GOTV and registration efforts with event costs that are most appropriately borne by the event’s actual attendees."  Apparently the distorted logic of AZGOP is if you donate your time and treasure toward your political convictions, it is you who should pay again.

Sifert continues "...and in CD2 (a seat we won by a mere 167 votes) and it will take every spare dime we have to win or hold those seats."  What exactly did "we win" in CD2?  We have Martha McSally with her 47% failing grade from Heritage Action.  McSally, along with 68%, Sen. Flake and 51%, Sen. McCain, all voted in favor of the Continuing Resolution That Funds Planned Parenthood (H.R. 719), yet somehow Graham and Sifert think that the Republican State Convention Delegates wish to fund the campaigns of these despicable characters who masquerade as Republicans.  Have we forcibly joined a progressive socialist labor union in a non- right to work state where we would expect part of our union dues to fund the political campaigns of candidates who do not share our values?   Courtesy of Graham and Sifert, this is an equivalent comparison, because by forcing the delegates to fund the convention, we are adding to the coffers of AZGOP, that will in turn spend our money to fund the campaigns of those who do not share our values or the values of the Republican Party Platform.

AZGOP Robert Graham’s Executive Director  Man Chad Heywood left his position last Friday to start his own consulting firm – Criterion Public Affairs with communications specialist Thomas Grier, formerly of DC London. Heywood is keeping his ties tight as he continues as a senior advisor to the AZGOP, helping with upcoming 2016 conventions/Victory efforts and Get Out the Vote events.

The AZGOP Former Political Director Avinash Iragavarapu has been promoted to the AZGOP executive director position to fill the vacancy left by Chad Heywood. Iragavarapu was part of Gov Doug Ducey’s campaign team last year.

Will Smith is the new AZGOP Data and Operations Director. The Arizona State University grad served as the Senate President for ASU’s undergraduate student government which gave him the opportunity to travel to China and Israeli where he studied Mandarin Chinese and was an organizer for the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee.

Gov Doug Ducey will be the speaker for the Gila County Republican Committee’s Lincoln Day Luncheon at 11:30 am., Mon., April 4 at the Mazatzal Casino in Payson. Congressman Paul Gosar will also attend. For ticket information call 928-478-8186. Contact Chr Gary Morris 602-803-7366.

The Palo Verde Republican Women are asking Republicans to contact Senate Major Leader Andy Biggs at 602-926-4371 or email him at abiggs@azleg.gov and request that he not allow SB1218 to the floor for a vote. This bill replaces the Electoral College with the National Popular Vote.

The Arrowhead Republican Women will present their annual “Desert Jewels Luncheon And Fashion Show” at 12:30 am., Sat., March 19 at the Briarwood Country Club. Open to the public. Non-partisan event. No business meeting. Fashions from Dillards. Table reservations are available for groups of 8. Doors open at 11 am for your shopping pleasure. Vendors, musical entertainment, raffles, prizes, etc. Cash bar. $35 per person. RSVP/Reservations/Tickets deadline March 5 contact Judi Bourd at zadie3@aol.com or 623-433-9449. Event info Barbara Melkin At artfulpen@gmail.com or 623-249-5085.

PC Lolly Tuttle is recuperating from a second surgery within a few weeks. You can’t slow that gal down. While she was waiting for the follow up surgery, her sister flew in from Iowa for a visit. Just prior to that she seriously injured her foot/ankle while weeding her backyard cactus bed that is on a slope adjacent to the Coyote Lakes golf course. As you may recall, Lolly golfs nearly every day – when able.

Arizona National Republican Committeewoman Sharon Geise is still on the mend from taking a tumble down the stage side-steps and breaking her leg at the AZGOP State Mandatory meeting in January. For years Briefs has watched to see what Geise would be wearing at the state meetings. No baggy, sloppy T-shirts and stringy un-kept hair for the pretty blonde. The soft-spoken, foxy lady is always fashion-plate, picture-perfect in her attire when the pols meet.  Her decisions as a parliamentarian were presented in the most lady-like manner. She kind of reminds Briefs of former First Lady Laura Bush, who also the portrait of a gracious lady.

And Speaking Of Blondes. Maricopa County Sheriff candidate Marsha Hill’s long blonde hair was glistening as she rode in the Wickenburg Gold Rush Days parade last Saturday.

Screwed: Anti-Trump-Super-Pac-Features-John-McCain “…John McCain, to most GOP voters, represents the very worst impulses of the GOP establishment: out of touch, devoid of principles, reeking of self-importance, more than likely corrupt. For the life of me I can’t imagine a single person inclined to vote for Trump who would say, “I don’t care about eminent domain, or abortion, or bankruptcies, or serial adultery, or general craziness, that man insulted John McCain and I will never vote for him.”

Filing window for Proposition 124 pro/con arguments opens Secretary of State Michele Reagan has opened the online filing period for pro/con arguments for Proposition 124 that is scheduled for the May 17 statewide special election and seeks reform for the police/firefighters pension system. Congresswoman Martha McSally has been appointed the Chairwoman of the Border and Maritime Security Subcommittee on the Committee on Homeland Security. The assignment gives McSally the lead role on the subcommittee with primary jurisdiction over border security. “We have a fundamental responsibility to ensure the safety and security of our communities and residents. Yet, every day, our flawed border strategy is putting our citizens at risk,” said McSally. “I’ve spent countless hours meeting with border residents and agents along the border to hear their perspectives. I’ve witnessed and experienced the dangerous consequences of our unsecure border first-hand. With those insights, I’ve worked hard to develop a smarter border strategy that uses intelligence-driven operations and all assets in a nimble way to intercept and stop transnational criminal organizations. I’m honored to be appointed to lead this subcommittee, which is so important to Southern Arizona, and will continue to work to highlight the threats our residents face and establish a better border strategy.” McSally is the first representative from Southern Arizona and first freshman to chair the Border and Maritime Security Subcommittee.

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus in response to President Obama's remarks on the Supreme Court at the US-ASEAN summit: “For 80 years, there has never been a nomination and confirmation to the Supreme Court in a presidential election year and President Obama should let his successor fill Justice Scalia's seat on the bench. This is not about the person, this is about the Court. The American people‎ should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice by allowing this issue to be front and center in this year’s election. As Democrats have already admitted, their breach of decades of precedent is all about scoring political points.”

Reminder: Feb 22 is the last day to register to vote in Presidential Preference Primary. Registration forms can be picked up at your local post office, motor vehicle licensing office, GOP office or contact your local club or legislative district chairman.

160216-2130 - AZRRT Special Call To Action By Jose Borrajero    new website at http://www.publicrecord.report/category/alerts/ The following table contains some very important information regarding three parental rights and privacy of information bills that will be heard in committee very soon, but first a quick observation: In communist countries there is no such thing as parental rights or privacy of information. This statement is not the result of hearsay or reading a book, but the result of personal experience. Some European so-called democracies are following this pattern. There are people in this country that would have us move in that direction. You still have the right and the ability to let your government know your opinion. Do not squander that right. Everyone reading this material should be contacting the members of the committees cited here in the manner that best suits them, namely via telephone, e-mail, or ALIS/RTS. Don’t count on the next guy doing it. He is counting on you to do it. THESE ARE ALL STRIKER BILLS
