L.G. Mace – Yavapai County Republican: There is another Navajo in the CD1 race and he is not a convert from the Democratic party.  Shawn Redd is also running.  Shawn is from Dilkon, AZ and can be reached at shawnredd@gmail.com or hello@shawnredd.com  or his website www.shawnredd.com

GOP Elites Have Only Themselves To Blame For Trump A top Republican consultant whined last week, “Donald Trump is hijacking the Republican Party.” Really? This is a common and almost comical complaint these days from the establishment wing of the GOP, the same people who have hijacked the party pretty much since the end of the Reagan era.In his disgraceful rant against Trump on Thursday, Mitt Romney even unveiled a new strategy by the establishment: Keep Trump from getting a majority of the delegates (though he is very likely to win a plurality) and then steal the election from Trump at the convention. Ironically, these are the same people who were making fun of the Democrats for “rigging” their nomination process to favor Hillary Clinton. What is clear is that the party’s brain trust, such as it is, is doing everything it can to disenfranchise millions of new Republican voters and deny Trump the nomination. Editor’s Note: Stephen Moore hits the nail on the head with this one.

Interesting Tidbits leaking out of AZGOP Robert Grahams’ Saturday meeting with the LD chairman on the selection process for the delegates for the state and national GOP conventions. It seems Graham doesn’t want his strategies leaked out. (“What strategy?” one observer laughed.)

Some LD Chairmen Are Wondering whose “Deep Pockets” the $5million came from that is supposedly earmarked for the 2016 campaign, Get-Out-The Vote, etc in AZGOP Robert Graham’s budget report? Others are wondering who is preparing Graham’s budget? State Treasurer Jonathan Lines, Communications Director Tim Sifert, or Compliance Office Timothy Lee?

Boys Will Boys – or so we have heard for years. Stephen Lemon aka “The Feathered Bastard” over at New Times reports that the Blaze Baggs, the 23-year old AZ field manager for senior senator John McCain was arrested for tearing a Buckey’s shuttle sign off the wall outside the Prescott casino. See John-McCains-Campaign-Field-Director-Arrested-For-Disorderly-Conduct; Could-Face-Federal-Charges OK, the young buck got caught in his alleged shenanigan, now readers wonder where the 79 year old, 33 year term US senator found his baby-faced field manager for the toughest campaign McCain has had to face in years? It seems Baggs was the field rep for Guv Doug Ducey and later became Ducey’s press and policy coordinator until he hired on with McCain. As you recall The AZGOP and Maricopa County Republican Committee censured McCain for numerous infractions in 2014. MCRC also passed an “Anyone But McCain Resolution” in 2016. AZGOP Robert Graham’s hand-picked parliamentarian ruled against letting the resolution get off the floor at the Jan 23, 2016 AZGOP mandatory meeting.

Yavapai County Republican Committee Chairman Dr. Mark Sensmeier: A flyer was sent out yesterday, 3/7/16, via Constant Contact by the Yavapai County Republican Committee (YCRC).  YCRC pays the subscription for Constant Contact, and we are required by FEC rules to indicate this on our email blasts.  However, the placement of this message on the original email gave some recipients the impression that this event was being sponsored by YCRC and that we were excluding other candidates for this office. This is not correct. The YCRC is not affiliated with this event, we are merely providing a service to Republican candidates by notifying our email subscribers of this function. We gladly provide this service to Republican candidates as part of our party's mission. The event advertised is solely the responsibility of the respective campaigns hosting it, and we apologize for any confusion or perceived slight of other candidates. Editor’s Note: Sensmeier is referring to a flyer that announces a “Meet your LD1 House Candidates” for incumbent Noel Campbell and challenger David Stringer scheduled between 5-7 pm., Fri., March 11 at the Jersey Lilly Saloon, 116 S Montezuma St., Prescott. Raffle, food, fund. Contact: info@yavgop.org

Frank Riggs Withdraws From ACC Race: After exploring the Corporation Commission race for a couple of months, I've decided not to run.  I want to support my wife, Cathy Riggs, who's running for Justice of the Peace in the Desert Ridge District (Cave Creek, Carefree, North Scottsdale and the Deer Valley and Desert Ridge areas of Phoenix).  She's exceptionally well qualified (riggsforjp.com) and would raise the bar for the administration of justice in that district. Cathy and I met in 1978 when we were both police officers in California.  She's been my partner throughout our 35 years of marriage and was by my side in our hard-fought and ultimately successful congressional campaigns.  I would not have had the extraordinary opportunity and privilege of serving in Congress without her sacrifice and support. I didn't think we could manage two campaigns concurrently and I want to be there for her in her first bid for elective office.  This is the decisive factor for me in deciding not to run for the Corporation Commission. I intend to stay actively involved in politics and in the direction of our Party, both in Arizona and nationally, and look forward to working with you. I want to thank everyone who has offered their encouragement for my exploratory campaign, by signing or circulating a nomination petition, or making a $5 contribution or larger donation.  I'm honored by your support and grateful for your friendship.I'd be delighted to speak at Clubs to share my political experiences and reflections.

Peggy-Noonan: GOP-Is-Ending In her column Friday, Noonan said proof that the GOP is coming apart is evident by the rise of Donald Trump, his unorthodox conservatism and the party's elder statesmen's refusal to accept that he may become their presidential nominee."[W]e are witnessing history. Something important is ending. It is hard to believe what replaces it will be better," wrote Noonan. "No one knows where this goes. The top of the party and the bottom have split. They disagree on the essentials."

A Bill To Allow The Secretary Of State’s Office to crack down on illegitimate, unlawful political spending has passed the Arizona Senate. “I’m pleased our campaign finance bill (SB1516) to root out unlawful political spending has passed the Senate,” said Secretary Michele Reagan.  “Hopefully, If the bill passes the House and is signed into law by the Governor, our office will finally have the tools necessary to go after fly-by-night “convenience corporations” who show up in Arizona on Tuesday and start spending money on Friday in our elections. The ability to differentiate between bad actors and perfectly legitimate companies exercising their basic right to speak is historic. It’s concerning to many that institutional groups like the Cattlemen’s Association, Planned Parenthood, Chamber of Commerce or Sierra Club would have to hand over the personal information of their members and supporters to a government agency. These provisions strike the right balance between holding wrongdoers accountable and protecting legitimate not-for-profits from big brother tracking the issues and causes they support and deciding what political speech they wish to regulate. In conjunction with our revolutionary, soon-to-be-released campaign finance reporting system, citizens will better able to educate themselves about the connections between the people who write checks and the politicians that cash them.” Sponsored by Senator Adam Driggs, SB1516 is a comprehensive rewrite of Arizona campaign finance law.  While provisions related to anonymous political spending are extremely important, the legislation also provides a clear, concise set of policies and procedures where citizens can easily find and understand the rules by which they can engage in political activity. www.azsos.gov (602) 542-4285

Any Candidate Aside From Trump Or Senator Ted Cruz has one big problem: GOP rules. The party requires that any candidate for the nomination has already won a majority of delegates in at least eight states. So far, only Trump has done that. Those rules can be changed, however, depending on how worried the party gets about the candidates remaining once the convention in Cleveland rolls around.” Vice’s Sarah Mimms on what a contested convention might look like—and what it would mean for Donald Trump.

Diner-Offers-'Dictator-Obama'-Breakfast-Special The “American Diner” in Liverpool, New York may be the most politically incorrect diner in the Empire State – and possibly the nation. The restaurant is a gun-toting, beef-eating, Constitution-loving establishment owned by Michael Tassone. Tassone is a no-nonsense God & Country fellow who takes pride in Old Glory and his signature “Animal Burger” – made from 24 ounces of “American Love.” “We talk religions and politics and we encourage people to carry their guns. The Second Amendment protects all the rest of them. If people don’t like it – they can go to Denny’s,” he said.

Congressman Paul Gosar’s met with the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors last night.

Congressman Matt Salmon: In addition to an extra day, February brought with it a host of new challenges in the House.  To start, the House took action to address North Korea's January test of a "miniaturized Hydrogen bomb."  While experts are skeptical that this test was actually of an H-Bomb, the threat posed by any nuclear development inside this tyrannical government remains the same.  United by our concern for what this despotic regime would do with such technology, Congress swiftly acted to impose further sanctions on North Korea.  Catch more about that below.I also announced that I wouldn't be seeking reelection this fall.   Rest assured, I intend to make the most of this year and fight for policies that put our country back on the right track.

Air-Force-Plan-On-Rockets-Fate-Is-Under-Fire “The Pentagon’s plan to end its reliance on Russian rocket engines through speedy development of a new, all-U.S. booster is too risky and likely will prove overly expensive, outside acquisition experts privately warned last year… But the Air Force…strongly disagrees about the projected financial impact…. Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James told the Senate Armed Services Committee last week that such reallocation of launches could end up costing as much as $5 billion above current projections… Arizona Sen. John McCain, the Republican chairman of the Armed Services panel, accused Air Force brass of intentionally providing misleading cost estimates. He also criticized Ms. James, alleging that she was unaware that profits from the RD-180 engine are, he said, flowing to associates of Russian President Vladimir Putin.”

U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, sent a letter to Acting Secretary of the Army Patrick Murphy today regarding unacceptable bureaucratic delays associated with the completion of the Rio de Flag Flood Control Project in Flagstaff, Arizona, including funding issues and mishandled repairs. The project, which has languished for eight years, is critical for the City of Flagstaff to mitigate potentially disastrous flood damage caused by the Rio de Flag that could destroy land and infrastructure and directly impact the local and regional economy. In the letter, Chairman McCain urged the Department of the Army and Army Corps of Engineers to conduct a concurrent review of Flagstaff’s Limited Reevaluation Report, which is necessary to ensure that the Rio de Flag Flood Control Project receives federal funding next year to complete the project on an expedited timeline. “With future flood events in the Rio de Flag potentially causing hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of damages that could affect large swaths of Flagstaff’s population, the need for the Rio de Flag project is clear,” writes McCain. “Yet, the construction of a detention basin, river crossings, berms, and floodwalls has been delayed by a stifling Army Corps bureaucracy, continual funding issues, and endless repairs to parts of the project that have been mishandled. I am concerned that if this project continues unfinished, the surrounding community will be exposed to a significant risk of harm due to a major flood event.”
