3-14-16 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Editor - Frosty Taylor or      Web Master John Strasser

Condolences To The Family Of Pima County GOP Activist Jacquelynn Egan.

Pima County Chairman Bill Beard: On Monday, March 7, 2016, Republicans lost one of our most dearest and dedicated Republicans, Jacquelynn R W Egan.  Jackie, as we all knew her, was an icon in Republican circles, dedicating her life to the Republican Party, and the election of Republican candidates. Jackie will be sorely missed by all who knew her will and unwavering dedication to the Republican Party. We mourn her death,  celebrate her life, and thank her for her dedication to the Republican Party. Jacquelynn R W Egan July 4, 1925 - March 7, 2016 Arrangements are being made by East Lawn Palms Mortuary, Tucson, AZ.

Congressman Paul Gosar – In Memory of Nancy Reagan: It is with a heavy heart that our nation mourns the death of Nancy Reagan who passed away this past week. There is absolutely no question that Ronald Reagan would not have been the man he was without the eternal love and support from Nancy at his side every step of the way. Her leadership has positively impacted countless generations of Americans to come. As a father of two daughters, I can only hope that they grow up to be as strong and compassionate as Nancy Reagan. And despite last Sunday's sad news, I can't help but smile thinking of Nancy and President Reagan together once again in God's hands.

At 9:30 a.m, Tues. March 15, Dr. Kelli Ward, will join the West Valley Republican Morning Coffee Group to discuss her US Senate campaign. Area Republicans are invited to have coffee and donuts with her and ask questions.  The office is located on the NW corner of 99th Avenue and Bell Road.

Congressman Paul Gosar has announced the appointment of Wickenburg High School senior Tucker Nixon to the US Naval Academy. “Arizona is incredibly blessed to have so many young men and women who are willing to answer the call to service our country. I am so proud of Tucker and you should be too!,” Gosar commented.

LD24 Chairman Timothy Lee has announced that Congressman David Schweikert will be meeting with LD24 Republicans on June 16 – providing there is no special vote in DC that will prevent him from flying to Arizona earlier that day. Contact: Lee at (602) 518-5860 (Text/Cell)

Coconino County Republican Committee Chairman Joan Harris: Delegates play a big role in determining the Republican nominee for President. Learn how to become one: The schedule of Arizona Republican Party county and legislative district meetings to elect delegates to the State Convention has been released. Click and select the 2016 Conventions box for details and instructions on how any registered Republican voter can be elected as a delegate to the State Convention. Any Coconino County resident registered to vote as a Republican is eligible to be nominated to be a state delegate. The Coconino County meeting to elect our delegates to the State Convention will be held at 9 am, Mon., April 2, at the DoubleTree Hotel, 1175 W. Rt. 66, Flagstaff. National delegates will be elected at the State Convention. If you are interested in becoming a Coconino County delegate to the Arizona State Convention, please contact me at telephone 928-226-0502 or e-mail I hope you will consider participating in this important election year.

It Takes An Energizer Bunny to keep up with Congressman Paul Gosar when he is in Arizona. Last week he visited Lake Havasu City, Bullhead City, Cottonwood, Prescott, Payson, Mesa, and Apache Junction. “I was grateful to have the opportunity to meet with so many Arizonans across the state about the important issues facing our communities as well as our country. Every time I visit with concerned citizens, I am amazed at what we can accomplish with just a simple conversation,” he said. “There is no question that the solutions to the biggest challenges we face today--from cracking down on illegal immigration to eliminating waste, fraud and abuse--are going to come from Main Street, not DC bureaucrats. I always find myself invigorated after my town hall meetings because I know that with bold action, we can break through the status quo infecting our nation’s capital. I want to personally thank each and every one of you who came out to one of my gatherings this past week and took part in the conversation.

The Republican Party of Mesa will meet at 7 pm., Thurs., March 17 at the Charles K Luster Building (formerly the Mesa Utilities Building) 640 N. Mesa Dr. Mesa, AZ to hear US Senate candidate Kelli Ward and Senate President/CD5 Candidate Andy Biggs. Contact: LD25 Chairman Ian Murray (602)524-7786

The Fountain Hills Tea Party meets at 6:30 pm., Tues., March 15 in the Fountain Hills Unified School District Learning Center, 16000 E Palisades Blvd. (Palisades Blvd. & Golden Eagle Blvd.) to hear Tom Jenney, Director of Americans for Prosperity - Arizona and Rick Gutridge.  Jenney will give an update on how to fight for smaller, responsible government and Gutridge will discuss the link (or lack thereof) between funding for K-12 education and student achievement.  There will be ample opportunity for Q & A. Admission is free but donations to help offset expenses are welcome and appreciated.  Contact:  Richard Rutkowski  or

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus on the CNN Democrat town hall: “Each Democrat town hall is a reminder of the out-of-touch and extreme policies being proposed by the Democrat Party.  A majority of Americans want a new direction for the country after eight years of failed policies under President Obama, but Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders continue to offer more of the same misguided agenda that has made us less prosperous, less safe, and less free. Only our candidates offer the change the American people want, and we need a Republican president to restore promise, security and prosperity to the country that President Obama and the Democrats failed to deliver.”

Congressman Paul Gosar -- Historic Site Designation: Do you like being told to sit down and shut up? I didn't think so...but that is exactly what happened on March 4th when the National Park Service rammed a bogus historic place listing down the throats of Arizonans. Why you ask? Because environmental extremist groups, hell-bent on sabotaging an important mining project, collaborated with government bureaucrats to silence public comments through deceptive notices and short comment periods. I will not stand for this deceitful abuse of power and vow to continue fighting back against this false listing. Click HERE to learn more.

Congressman Paul Gosar’s Staff will hold officer hours between 10 am and noon, Mon, April 4 at 155 N. Tegner, Suite A, Wickenburg, AZ 85390. Raise any concern you have about federal and state topics. Receive help from agents from the Social Security Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, Small Business Administration, the Internal Revenue Service and more. Contact: 928-445-1683.

The Delegates attend the National Convention to vote for the party’s nominee for President of the United States and perform other party business. State Convention Delegates, who elect the National Convention Delegates at the April 30, 2016 State Convention, must be duly qualified Republican electors of their respective district and county. However, only Republican Precinct Committeemen elected, or appointed by their County Board of Supervisors before December 31, 2015, may vote at the county and district meetings where delegates are selected to attend the state convention on April 30th. Delegates to the State Convention are elected by precinct committeemen at their Legislative District or County Committee meetings in Spring of 2016. Those delegates attend the State Convention on April 30 to vote for delegates to the Republican National Convention. Delegates to the State or National Convention do not have to be precinct committeemen.

The New York Times
Has Created An Easy-To-Read Flow Chart to show you just how many delegates become free on the second and each successive ballot. Save this, you may want to refer to this handy flow chart of the Republican National Convention balloting process, later in the year. Almost all delegates to the Republican National Convention are required by state law or state party rules to vote for the candidate they are pledged to support on the first ballot. But what if no candidate achieves a majority (1,237 delegates) on the first ballot, and a second ballot is needed? A third?

Are The RNC’s Convention Rules as complicated as they seem? Yes. Morton Blackwell – who has been Virginia’s Republican National Committeeman since 1988, and has been an expert on the Rules of the Republican Party since before then – has written a thorough overview of the current 2016 Republican National Convention rules, as well as a forecast of what might change. He writes: “No one who has not participated in the rules-making process for the national Republican Party is likely to understand all provisions of the current rules, much less how those rules, whether as they now read or how they might be changed, would affect what happens at the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland.” That’s putting it mildly. At issue is Rule 40, which regulates how candidates’ names are put in nomination, and how, therefore, how duly elected delegates may or may not cast votes they are bound to cast.
