Republican Briefs

Editor - Frosty Taylor repcomm@cox.net or frostytaylor@cox.net   Web Master John Strasser

Condolences To The Family of former Pima County Supervisor Ann Day, sister of Judge Sandra Day O’Connor, who was killed Saturday in an accident in Tucson.

Correction: Part of a sentence was accidently lost from Jim Dutton’s commentary yesterday regarding convention rules: The last paragraph reads: I am sure Ash is a man of character. This "trust" will prove to be sorely misplaced I am afraid for it is this same group that twisted Donald Trump's arm into pledging to support the Republican Nominee and now refuse to do so themselves. Character and integrity are a thing of the past in the upper tiers of the GOP.  Their actions in July will determine whether many of us will continue to put our efforts and money into the Republican Party. It should read: I am sure Bruce Ash is a man of character and expects the rest of the GOP leadership to conduct themselves as such. This "trust" will prove to be sorely misplaced, I am afraid, for it is this same group that twisted Donald Trump's arm into pledging to support the Republican Nominee and now refuse to do so themselves. Character and integrity are a thing of the past in the upper tiers of the GOP.  Their actions in July will determine whether many of us will continue to put our efforts and money into the Republican Party. Apologies to Ash and Dutton. - ft

LD14 PC Bruce M Piepho to Bruce Ash: I believe there is a valid concern regarding the Integrity of the process at the National Convention.  You getting the Roberts Rules of Order (RRO) as the prevailing proceedings guide was an excellent accomplishment. However as the AZGOP has proved on several occasions and the 2012 National Convention chair John Boehner proved the rules have been mis-applied and correct Roberts Rules of Order have been ignored.  RRO requires calling for debate discussion on any motion unless there is a motion to restrict debate or limit debate.  Some could easily make the case the AZGOP State Convention was improperly called to order and all results invalid. Lyle Rapacki stated it correctly.  BOTH political parties are (defiling) erasing the powers that the sovereign people have delegated to it. We the People will not stand for it. The word defiling is mine. Both political parties are losing the trust of the people.  Any additional Roberts Rules of Order debauchery could really be very destructive. I trust you and the RNC Chairman will make the people of AZ position very clear to the U.S. Speaker of the House when chairing the National Convention. Piepho is a state committeeman and a state convention delegate from Cochise County.

LD22 PC Jane Schutte: The political climate is toxic.  I’m not one to back down from disagreements.  I’m Trump all the way.  I’m not going to say he is a Conservative.  He wants to save the Country and right now that’s what I care about (thinking about my 3 and 5 year old grandkids).  Paul Ryan purposefully didn’t support Trump because he wants Hillary so does McCain, a lot of them want Hillary at the expense of the people.  Hillary’s latest comments welcome the beltway Republicans.  Hillary is a continuation of ruining the Country just like Obama.  Trump doesn’t run with the beltway establishment Republicans so they can’t trust him to do their bidding.  I hope Trump gets in and eliminates the Federal Dept. of Education, the EPA, etc.  These agencies should be at the State level only.

US Senate candidate Clair Van Steenwyk writes: I've done countless hours of national and state research showing those running have no idea what the Real Arizona Voter is thinking as most AZ Voters don't listen to the so called experts, WE don't trust those who say one thing and do another. Petition To Keep Men Out Of Women's Bathroom Protect women and children by keeping men out of women's bathrooms. Americans are taking a stand to protect women and children across this great nation. The aggressive, leftist effort to "accommodate" transsexuals also makes it easier for pedophiles, rapists, voyeurs and other sexual deviants to have access to potential victims. It’s time to stop this kind of political correctness that puts women and girls at risk.

Secretary Michele Reagan’s work to transition the office from paper to pixels continues with the launch of a newly developed candidate filing system.  Beginning May 2, 2016 the Secretary of State’s office will implement 21st century methods for candidates who want to run for state or legislative office. One of the first of its kind, candidates for public office can file their political committees, nomination paperwork and financial disclosure statements with the Secretary of State’s office online.  Candidates have the opportunity to provide contact information, web address, a picture and biography. “We’re really excited to provide this innovative system that allows people to file and run for office without having to come to our office in person,” said Reagan.  “From day one we’ve tried to make the Department of State more accessible to all Arizonans, not just those in the Phoenix metro area.  The implementation of this system marks off another item on our to-do list!”

The Candidate Filing Period runs from Mon, May 2, to Wed, June 1, 2016 for those running for office in the Tues., Aug 30, 2016 Primary Election. Early voting begins August 3.  The voter registration deadline to participate in the Primary is August 1. All registered voters, including those not registered with a party, widely known as independent voters, are eligible to cast a vote. For information about running for office and/or upcoming elections, visit www.azsos.gov/

Kristi Passarelli at the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office says June 1, 2016 is the deadline for precinct committeemen, who are running for the Aug 30 election, to get their petitions submitted to the Recorder’s office. CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS

Please comply with the 300 word limit policy. If statements exceeds the limit, it will be edited

Congressman Paul Gosar: On Monday night in Lake Havasu City over 1,000 concerned citizens participated in a public meeting hosted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to voice their opinions about proposed boating restrictions. While this massive turnout might have surprised Fish and Wildlife Service representatives, anyone living in Western Arizona can tell you that this fight has been a long time coming. Government agencies under the Obama Administration have continued to enact job-killing and unlawful regulations that cause severe harm to countless communities throughout the country. And on Monday night...hundreds of citizens in Lake Havasu City stood shoulder to shoulder and with one unified voice said, "We oppose the latest overreach by the Fish and Wildlife Service to unilaterally impose arbitrary boating restrictions on Lake Havasu. "I was honored to begin the public statements by opposing the draft compatibility determination and criticizing the process being used by the Service to implement these restrictions: “I look around and I see concerned citizens worried about their livelihoods, a ten-year-old special needs boy who had his favorite wakeboarding spot closed last May for no legitimate reason, and a community that is sick and tired of continued federal overreach by the Fish and Wildlife Service. We need a solution that works for all users...If you don't have the science or track citations, then the proposed closures are based on an agenda. It shouldn't have taken significant efforts from Mayor Nexsen and I just to get this meeting. The Service has attempted to silence this community and once again jam these new boating restrictions down our throats before Memorial Day Weekend. I strongly oppose the CD and ask that the Service scrap this terrible proposal." Written comments may also be sent to: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Havasu National Wildlife Refuge, Attn: Draft Recreational Boating CD, 317 Mesquite Avenue, Needles, CA 92363.
