Marilyn “Waddell” Hammarstrom – the daughter of John A. Waddell, who was cartoonist/author Bill Mauldin’s first “Willie” is seeking Mauldin items. WWII vets well remember Mauldin’s famous drawings “Willie and Joe” and book “Up Front” –on US servicemen in the trenches. She writes, “Actually, he was called Waddy in Mr. Mauldin's first sketches, then Willie.  Mr. Mauldin continued his relationship with my father for years; my father passed in 1971.  I then met Mr. Mauldin in 1993 at his home in Tucson.  As a result of my desire to honor my father and his association with Willie and Joe, I've become very involved in building out two historic buildings to house a military history museum, Fort Tuthill Military History Museum, in Flagstaff, AZ.  We are designing an exhibit dedicated to Bill Mauldin and would hope you can direct me to the right persons to call on for assistance.  I once had 5 original drawings signed to my father which were stolen out of his house.  I would love to find out if there are copies as well as I'm trying to locate a booklet that Mauldin using my father on the front cover.  I have contacted the 45 Division Museum and visited them and they had never seen these before, but were very interested and tried to help, but to no avail.  If you are aware of a Mauldin family member or foundation, etc. I would truly appreciate your assistance in presenting and preserving this legacy.   Contact Ft. Tuthill Military History Museum, Director Hammarstrom at 602-684-1912 or

Tom Morrissey to Maricopa County Sheriff candidate Dan Saban: I have a question for you.  Weren't you a Democrat running for Sheriff in 2008?  Then didn't you support the Democrat candidate for Sheriff in 2012?  And also, as someone who has had a career in law enforcement, I will tell you again, that it is because of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's integrity and his history of excellence that I continue to support him. He has earned the support of the people of this county and he doesn't need you, or anyone else, telling him it's time to retire.  That should be his decision and to say otherwise reeks of age discrimination and a lack of understanding and appreciation for the job he has done.  Morrissey, a retired law enforcement officer, is the immediate past chairman of the AZGOP.

Hillary’s America: A Movie Trailer History of the Democratic Party

Senate President Andy Biggs yesterday applauded Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich in joining the lawsuit against the Obama Administration over their decision to tie federal funding for schools to allowing children of the opposite sex to use the same facilities. Biggs said, "I called on Attorney General Mark Brnovich to join the Texas Attorney General in suing the Obama Administration over their appalling decision to tie federal funding for schools to allowing children of the opposite sex to use the same facilities. Today, I am very pleased to learn that General Brnovich has, in fact, joined that lawsuit. Arizona voters are outraged over the rampant overreach that this administration has involved itself in since day one of President Obama's first term, and it was abundantly clear that this was yet another edict that ran afoul of the Tenth Amendment. In joining this lawsuit, General Brnovich is standing up for the Constitutional rights of all Arizonans, and I am proud to stand behind him."

Arizona Town Crier Jim Ely On Polls Showing Dems Leading Senate Race: And what will our beloved AZ Be Doing? You know, when our federal government was set up, there was created a house of representatives to represent the people and a senate to represent the states.  The United States.  You may remember, each state was guaranteed a ‘republican’ form of government.  Each state was allow two senators, regardless of size or population.  The 17th amendment to the Constitution changed the method of electing senators so that it is really now no more than a lesser house of representatives but still only two senators per state.  Now consider a law.  Say a bill is passed in the house and then goes to the senate. Then in the senate the bill comes up for a vote to be considered by every state senator.   Then if Arizona is represented by a Democrat, Kirkpatrick, and a Republican, Flake, and when a bill comes up for a vote, if Kirkpatrick votes one way and Flake vote the other, that means that that the state of Arizona had no vote on the bill.  One ‘yea’ and one ‘ney’ cancels each other out!  Is that logical???

What does our beloved AZ GOP executive committee and leadership plan to do??  McCain seems vulnerable having been censored by his own party, but how about the other candidates?  Does the AZ GOP plan to evaluate them and advise the membership and work on a strong GOTV program  or do we just guess?

Activist Art Olivas: After reading about BBQ benefit for slain Police Officer David Glasser in Frosty's Briefs, my wife said we had to go and show our support for our law officers. They lay their lives on the line for us each and every day. We were surprised to see so many Legal Immigrants and Americans citizens of Hispanic, Latino, Central America and Mexican descent in support of our police officers. We spoke with some of the officers that protect us when we rally against illegals. Boy, were they surprise at their support. They had not seen the silent Brown Majority before. My biggest let down was when I saw News TV Channels 3, 5, 10, 12 and 15 broadcasts - Hypocrites, all of them. Media - the enablers and promoters of the sanctuary city we live in where some illegal immigrants run amok. They kept their cameras away from any Brown People. Why? None of us were running around acting stupid. Reminds me of the officials who keep supporting and protecting illegals. The hypocrites who support a sanctuary city, for illegals who kill our people, must be purge from our government - city and state. Who is to blame; them or us? Remember our vote put them in office. Wake up People.

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich and Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas today announced that they have joined 10 other States in a federal lawsuit to challenge President Obama’s mandate requiring all public K-12 and postsecondary schools to open up boys’ and girls’ locker rooms and restrooms to students of the opposite sex, based on students’ perceptions of their "gender identity." The Heber-Overgaard Unified School District has also joined the State’s lawsuit as a plaintiff. Since the President has threatened to deny federal funding to all schools that object to this outrageous decree, Arizona has joined Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Maine, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia and Wisconsin in a lawsuit filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. The lawsuit is focused on who should set these sensitive policies – the federal government via unaccountable agencies or States and local school districts. The challenge seeks declaratory relief against a number of federal agencies in order to block the implementation of the administration’s unprecedented interpretation of the law. “President Obama has no business setting locker room and restroom policies for our schools,” said Brnovich. “Deciding how to protect our children and preserve their privacy, while balancing these complicated issues, is best done locally and not by some one-size-fits-all decree from Washington.” “When Arizona students attend school, they deserve a safe environment that is free from bullying and discrimination, regardless of their gender identity,” said Douglas. “I know that our districts and schools have policies in place to ensure that is the case. The fact that the federal government has yet again decided that it knows what is best for every one of our local communities is insulting and, quite frankly, intolerable.” Formal Filing here.

LD20 2nd Vice Chair Wes Harris: After reading the three separate postings in Republican Briefs on the Nestle Bottling Plant, as a member of the City of Phoenix Water and Waste Water Rate Oversight Committee I felt it important for your readers to hear directly from the City's Water Department as to their position on the Nestle Bottling Plant.  Attached is a copy of the reply that I received which I urge you to publish to put to rest the concerns mentioned in the media about Phoenix' management of this most important resource:

Stephanie Bracken, Phx Water Dept to Wes Harris: Thank you for your concerns about protecting Phoenix’s most precious resource.  As the 6th largest city in the country, Phoenix has a robust economic vitality that supports manufacturing, bioscience research and advanced business services.  In order to sustain its economic vitality, Phoenix has been a prudent steward of its water supplies for many years.  Phoenix currently uses approximately half of its Salt and Verde River supplies and 2/3 of its Colorado River supplies.  In addition, Phoenix has a large “bank” of water it has stored underground for over 20 years.  Moreover, Phoenix acquires its water supplies decades before they are needed in order to guarantee sustainable, reliable water deliveries to all of its customers, whether they are business or residential.  Because of our innovative water supply planning efforts, Phoenix is able to welcome major industrial and manufacturing customers to the Valley and the quality jobs that come with them. The Nestle bottling plant is a $35 million Capital investment project located in an existing vacant warehouse in the City and will create approximately 40-55 new jobs in its first phase of operation.  Nestle’s water needs will not burden Phoenix’s existing supplies, nor will it require Phoenix to acquire additional water.  In fact, Nestle will use less water than many other types of industrial and manufacturing operations in Phoenix.  It will be the fourth bottling facility located in the Phoenix service area and will not pose a burden on Phoenix’s water supplies or infrastructure.  Most importantly, Nestle will pay the exact same volumetric price for water paid by all residents and businesses.  It has received no economic concessions from the City.  Unlike situations in other states, Nestle is not seeking, and will not receive, any “water right” in Phoenix.  We hope this alleviates any concerns you may have about the sustainability and reliability of Phoenix’s water supplies.  We appreciate the opportunity to share with you our success in managing the City’s most valuable resource. – Bracken is the City of Phoenix Water Service Dept Public Info Officer.

Congresswoman Martha McSally: Security lines are growing at airports around the country. We’re approaching the peak summer travel season. And the TSA is pulling screening agents to work presidential campaign rallies, concerts, and sporting events. Really? The TSA’s mission is to protect our nation's transportation system and facilitate travel, not staff campaign rallies. Today, I questioned TSA Administrator Peter Neffenger at a Homeland Security Committee hearing about how screening these events fits the agency’s core missions. Last week, I invited Bonnie Allin, the CEO of Tucson's Airport Authority, to join me for a roundtable discussion with lawmakers and airline representatives about how TSA can improve staffing practices and decrease passenger screening times. Her insights shed light on an issue that too often is prescribed top-down from Washington without hearing from the people most closely involved. That’s why I advocated to have her return to Congress to share her views on the record, which she will do tomorrow at a Homeland Security subcommittee hearing. I've also written a letter to the TSA Administrator requesting how he plans to address staffing shortages at Tucson International Airport. Read my letter HERE. Just a reminder that you can always contact me with your ideas and opinions by emailing me through my website, It’s an honor to represent your voice in Congress, and I look forward to hearing from you.

LD18 Senate candidate Frank Schmuck: On Saturday, we celebrated Armed Forces Day. One of six observances during National Military Appreciation Month, this is a day to honor the men and women currently serving our country in uniform. It is a day to recognize them for their incredible integrity, their dedication to service, and their unmatched leadership. Additionally, we follow the example they set, and remain inspired by their selflessness as we challenge ourselves to do more for our community. That is why I am proud to announce the digital launch of my campaign for Arizona Senate in Legislative District 18 that day. Following the example set by our active service members, I’m running for office to represent this district with integrity, to serve the people of this district, and to provide the leadership to spearhead conservative solutions at the capitol. But I can’t do it alone.I can win this race, but only with a strong team at my side. If you share my vision for the traits we need in our next State Senator, please join my team by Signing my petition to help me secure ballot access, and Signing up to volunteer to join me in directly contacting voters.
