6-17-16 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor  repcomm@cox.net      Web Master John Strasser

AzCDL Action Alert: It is important that you contact your senators and demand they oppose all the “gun control” legislation that is being introduced in the wake of the Orlando killings. Anti-rights groups are dancing in the blood of the victims and are having their supporters contact Congress to disarm you.  The Obama Administration is pushing for the destruction of the Second Amendment and the Democrats in the Senate are falling over each other to introduce bills to sacrifice your right to keep and bear arms in the name of Homeland Security. A letter has been prepared for you to send to your Senators demanding they oppose any new “gun control” legislation.  It does not matter where you live, your email will go to your U. S. Senators based on your address.  You may send the letter as is or personalize it with your own comments. This is not limited to Arizona.  Please forward this to every freedom loving Patriot on your contact lists.  Doing nothing is surrendering. – This alerts is a project of the Arizona Citizens Defense League (AzCDL), an all-volunteer, non-profit, non-partisan grassroots organization.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) was making robo calls yesterday requesting Arizona resident contact Sen John McCain and Sen or asking them not to support gun control legislation.

LD13 House candidate Don Shooter’s residency has the topic of rumor/speculation within political circles and it surfaced again as his political consultant Constantin “CQ” Querard filed a challenge as to whether LD13 House candidate Ray Kouns had enough signatures to qualify for the Aug 30 Primary ballot. This week Briefs asked Shooter, “…Is it true that you and your wife live in LD9 – in or near the Biltmore Estates in Phoenix instead of in Yuma?” Shooters response: “Thank you for asking.  I have heard the same thing.  I have lived and continue to live in Yuma since 1981.  I have a residence there, which has been my residence for four of five years.  However, my wife recently retired and she bought a house near the Biltmore that we use when I am up in Phoenix working.  If you notice, my senate page lists me as a Republican from Yuma.  Please explain to everyone the situation, if you would.”

Former-UN-Ambassador-John-Bolton-Takes-Off-The-Gloves-Calls-Obama-A-Small-Man-Because … "Snark is not an admirable trait ..." When it comes to criticizing the Obama administration’s craven approach to foreign policy and fighting terrorism, no conservative is more consistent than former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton.Back in the first year of Barack Obama’s presidency, Bolton used a New York Times op-ed to accurately predict Obama’s approach to nuclear negotiations would “seriously weaken the United States” (see the Iran deal). Less than two weeks ago, Bolton slammed Obama for his near-apology for the U.S. atomic bombing of Hiroshima. But Bolton’s outrage this week over the way Obama used the Orlando nightclub massacre to attack political opponents hit hard at the president whom Bolton calls a “small man.”

Warren Woodward of Sedona: I received a lofty press release from the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) the other day (here: 2016Releases/6-14-2016  ). In an act of political desperation, the ACC is considering creating an ACC "Code of Ethics." I about gagged. I think most of us would be satisfied if the ACC just followed state statutes for a change. Clearly this is a lame attempt by the ACC Republican commissioners (none are of any other party) to whitewash the disgraceful shambles they've made of running the ACC over the last several years, and do so quickly before the upcoming election. I was going to write more on this subject but Laurie Roberts of the Arizona Republic newspaper beat me to it. Here are two articles she's written. corp-giggle-create-code-ethics-guffaw If you only read one, make sure it's the second. roberts: corp-comms-ethics-quest-gets-even-funnier You won't believe it. Just hilarious. In trying to promote this ethics whitewash at a recent ACC meeting, ACC commissioner Tom Forese had to be warned by an ACC lawyer not once, not twice, not thrice, but four times (!) that he was breaking Arizona's Open Meeting Law. In the final warning, the ACC lawyer had to threaten the entire commission with the violation in order to get scofflaw Forese to finally behave and shut up.

Senator John McCain today clarifying his earlier remarks regarding President Obama and the Orlando attack: “I misspoke. I did not mean to imply that the President was personally responsible. I was referring to President Obama’s national security decisions, not the President himself. As I have said, President Obama’s decision to completely withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq in 2011 led to the rise of ISIL. I and others have long warned that the failure of the President’s policy to deny ISIL safe haven would allow the terrorist organization to inspire, plan, direct or conduct attacks on the United States and Europe as they have done in Paris, Brussels, San Bernardino and now Orlando.”

it will be edited. Briefs does not post endorsements.

Candidate For Maricopa County Sheriff Dan Saban Response To Tom Morrissey. Mr. Morrissey, the following is clarification of your commentary regarding my immigration stance. In 2004, I ran on a very comprehensive platform of combating illegal immigrations during a time your guy stood “firm” on his stance: “illegal immigrations are not a serious legal issue,” -Joe Arpaio. Your guy then arrested an Iraqi war veteran for capturing and holding at bay 7 illegal immigrants who had crossed the U.S. border into Maricopa County illegally. During that 2004 campaign it was I who suggested the implantation of the 287g program; which, was scoffed at by your guy. In 2007, when I was the President of the West Valley Chief’s Association, it was I who sat in the Speaker of the House chamber, along with Mr. Pearce, and discussed the importance and proper implementation of SB 1070. That discussion included my concerns, if passed as law, of appropriately applying SB 1070; to not violate American citizen’s rights. As was eventually done, excessively by your guy, costing over $50 million, and counting, in settlements. None of us (Chiefs of Police) were ever litigated against or found to be in violation of implementing the law appropriately. Again, in my current campaign, I’ve outlined another very comprehensive platform against illegal immigrations. Since you are blatantly unwilling to afford me the curtesy of at least discussing this issue, I’ve included a link to my website to ensure you know exactly where I stand: http://dansabanforsheriff.com/criminal-illegal-enforcement-plan/. Mr. Morrissey if you are so confident in your guy, step up and sponsor a debate. Then everyone can see, firsthand, where we both stand on all the issues surrounding public safety. I’ll even pay for the venue, but YOU have to get him there. – Dan Saban

Shame on Senator John McCain - Alex Meluskey Blasts the Senate’s Decision on Requiring Women to Register for the Draft: Yesterday, the United States Senate approved Senator McCain’s bill that requires women to register for the draft, despite the opposition from conservative leaders and organizations. While Senator McCain may think it is fine to draft women, Alex Meluskey has stood solidly against this bill and has argued its irrelevance to national security. Arizona needs a Senator who will take a principled stand and not politicize our national defense. "The passage of Senator McCain’s bill is a terrible mistake, and I do not know how any Senator in good conscience could have supported the bill. While we should be working to strengthen national security, Senator McCain is more concerned with registering women for the draft," Meluskey, U.S. Senate candidate, said. "While we should seek to increase our military and strengthen the NDAA, Senator McCain is worried about expanding the draft so he could send them off to fight his battles. We need more United States Senators who will protect our women and increase our national defense and less like John McCain,” said Meluskey. The Arizona Republican U.S. Senate primary will take place on August 30th. Contact Andrew Shirley at Ashirley@SBPublicAffairs.com or (703) 739-5920.
