Republican Briefs

Senators And Delegates Remain Cool To ‘Dump Trump’ Plot “…Feel that going against the voters will tear our party apart and only give the Democrat presumptive candidate the edge," said Rosie Tripp, a rules committee member from New Mexico. Read more »

John-McCain: Delegates-Can-Make-Up-Their-Own-Minds As delegates make a last-ditch effort for their freedom to vote against presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump at the party's convention this summer, Arizona Sen. John McCain seemed to back them in their bid against the billionaire businessman. "I think it's up to every delegate to make up their own minds," McCain, the Republican party's 2008 presidential nominee, said in an interview Tuesday.

Reports From Southern Arizona Readers indicate that US Senate candidate Dr. Kelli Ward supporters are being harassed when they attempt to attend Ward gatherings. A few days ago a video surfaced of in which one of Sen John McCain’s senior staffers “nearly toppled over” Ward’s 71 year-old mother in his determination to keep a camera focused on Ward’s entrance into a Phoenix event. See John-McCain-Staff-Gets-Rough-With-Challenger-Kelli-Ward’s-Family In January, Maricopa County officials confirmed reports that at least one of McCain’s young groupees was caught walking up behind unknowing GOP leaders and taping their conversations during/after the January county meeting. In March, Stephen Lemons reported John-Mccains-Campaign-Field-Director-Arrested-For-Disorderly-Conduct; Could-Face-Federal-Charges Is it any wonder they are becoming known as “McCain’s Thugs?”

Services For GOP Activist Cecil Sanders wife Chong Hui will be held at 2 pm., Fri, July 1 at the Desert Hills Chapel/Hansen, 6500 E Bell Road in Scottsdale, followed by a reception. Visitation is scheduled between 5-8 pm., Thurs., June 30.

LDl13 House Candidate Ray Kouns remains on the Aug 30 Primary ballot as of today’s appeal ruling. The challenge appeal to his original hearing win to stay on the ballot was again tossed out. Political consultant Constantin “CQ” Querard, representing LD13 House candidate Don Shooter, had originally challenged that Kouns didn’t have enough qualifying signatures and that he used the general election date instead of the primary date on his petition sheets. Kouns said the Recorders office verified the signature qualifications and the Secretary of State’s office had directed him to use the general election day on the petition forms. Due to the appeal, Kouns candidacy was the last Maricopa county candidate’s challenge one to be settled by a judge’s ruling.

LD13 candidates speaking to the Wickenburg Republican Club on Monday evening included LD13 House candidates Ray Kouns and incumbent Darrin Mitchell, who hopes to become Speaker of the House. House candidate Don Shooter was unable to attend. Senate candidate Diane Landis spoke, but senate candidate Steve Montenegro was not able to attend.

It Was Good To See Long-Time Republican Activist Jean McGrath walk through the door Monday evening in Wickenburg in spite of the blacken sky and storm warnings. It was just a year ago that she started to Wickenburg in the rain, hydro-planed as she started across the Hwy 60 Morristown bridge, tore out a large section of the railing and flipped over the side of the bridge, destroying her Mercedes. Shaken and bruised, the plucky McGrath was back on her feet in no time and hasn’t slowed down since. McGrath, a former Arizona legislator, is probably the most conservative member of the Maricopa County Community College Board and doesn’t hesitate to say what she thinks about that board’s waste of taxpayer’s money. She had the room in laughter Monday evening as she gave the group a pep talk about obtaining voter registrations. A little humor can go a long way in getting a point across.

Maricopa County School Superintendent Dr. Don Covey - Current Governing Board Vacancies are an Opportunity for Republican Leadership: As of today, there are 164 Governing Board Seat Vacancies across Maricopa County’s 58 traditional school districts. Considering there are 277 total Governing Board seats, the 164 Vacancies represent a 60% vacancy rate! As of today, there are not enough Candidate Election Packets, requested from my office, to fill the needed Governing Board Vacancies. As a matter of fact no Candidate Election Packets (meaning no one is currently planning on running) have been pulled, for the 14 vacant seats in 9 school districts. I am very concerned about these statistics. However, as a Republican I see a terrific opportunity for our party. We have an opportunity to rise up Republican leaders by participating in the political process and positively impacting school districts. Although Governing Board positions are nonpartisan, Republican leaders can encourage enthusiastic, visionary party members to run for these offices, and to advocate for our Arizona Republican Principles, such as: “Taxes, Jobs, and our Economy, Law and Justice, Government Reform, Education, Families and Children, and International Affairs”, in their local school district. Serving as member of a local school board is one of the most rewarding job you may undertake. As an elected Governing Board Member, the decisions you make will affect all children, their parents, and the economic well-being of your community, and state. I encourage all Republican leaders to encourage their networks, as well as themselves, to consider running for a Governing Board Vacancy. Together, we can ensure all of our school districts have Republican leadership needed to ensure our students are prepared for college and/or a career. The filing period for nomination papers and petitions is July 11, 2016 through August 10, 2016. For more information, visit

Malnar is a Glendale City Councilman and serves on the board of both the West-Mec School board and Choice Academies Charter School.  “I am thrilled to support a real educator for real education needs. Wickenburg PC John Powelson: Isn't that thoughtful of Obama to remove the parts of the citizenship oath that might require loyalty to America or that could become an issue worthy of deporting a likely terrorist for failing to live up to the loyalty part of the  oath. But wait..... Immigration and the requirements for becoming a citizen of the USA are written into laws passed by congress. The same congress the Constitution says is in-charge of all immigration and rules for naturalization of foreigners coming to the USA. Article I Section 8 of the US Constitution. The fact is that none of the people who take a modified oath will have actually become citizens and they can be deported at any time as non-compliant foreign citizens. Just because Obama thinks he's God doesn't mean he is one. The President has no authority to change any law unilaterally much less the Constitution he has sworn to uphold. If he could I have no doubt he would just throw it in the trash completely and rule by edict and tyrannical processes more akin to those seen in the places where his fathers grew up in.

Firearms Expert Alan Korwin to Linda Valdez: I enjoy reading your writing, even if we often disagree, but as professional writers, I do expect you to remain consistent and rational. If you "require all guns sold fit the description of those manufactured when the Second Amendment was written," to remain consistent and rational, you would have to require that free speech go no further than what can be heard by the unaided human voice. That of course is preposterous. And preposterous is how the gun debate shapes up, with help from writing like yours this morning. Why not make an effort to put forth cogent and rational arguments, so we could get somewhere? I don't like the conclusion, supported by your statement, that so many people cling to, that liberalism is a mental disorder. How else could such a statement as yours be made with a straight face? You do still make me think. Editor’s Note: Valdez is an Arizona Republic writer.

Brian Reilly, Former LD22PC: In response to Tom Morrissey’s recent article, he states: “At the risk of taking this to the point of being ridiculous I will make one final point...” Myself, I will continue to make many points why Republicans should elect a new sheriff for Maricopa County who follows court orders, enforces the law fairly and legally for everyone, regardless of their skin color, and who understands the element of probable cause to arrest individuals. Arpaio is simply a politician who will do, it seems, whatever it takes to hold onto his power of office or, to get himself reelected. Remember, Arpaio is the politician who reportedly said in his first bid for sheriff that he would not run for the office again. Seven terms later, Arpaio is running again. What’s the word for this? Is it dishonesty? Dishonesty seems to be a consistent theme in the Melendres v. Arpaio contempt of court hearings when it comes to our current sheriff and his office. What really is ridiculous is that Republicans continue to believe the Arpaio marketing “dog and pony shows” instead of questioning the man and his actions. In 2012, I wrote to Sheriff Arpaio that he had taken an oath to defend the Constitution and the laws of the state of Arizona, and it was his duty, as sheriff, to protect the constitutional rights of Arizona citizens to organize a recall against him. Arpaio never answered my letter. Arpaio continued to allow his “Shadow Army” to interfere with people who were legally gathering petition signatures seeking Arpaio’s recall. Yes, Mr. Morrissey, open borders is also a huge issue, one that will never be solved by our local sheriff. It is a national issue to be solved, God willing, only by Donald J. Trump, our next President.

Attorney General Mark Brnovich is warning Arizonans to be aware of door-to-door home alarm security scams.  The scam involves using deceptive sales tactics and misleading statements to get consumers to sign up for home alarm contracts or switch home alarm monitoring services. “Everyone wants to feel safe at home and these scam artists prey on people's desire to keep their families safe,” said Brnovich.  "Remember, don't give in to high pressure sales tactics. ”Third-party salespeople may pretend they are affiliated with consumers’ current home security company. Consumers are also told their equipment needs to be upgraded or replaced, or that their current monitoring company is going out of business and the company they represent will be taking over the monitoring service. Consumers can find themselves obligated under multiple contracts with different companies following such deceptive sales tactics and may even have to pay substantial amounts of money to re-install equipment that may have been removed during the installation of any new equipment. Brnovich’s Advice:

    · Always be on guard when approached at home and never feel obligated to answer the door, especially when home alone.

     · Ask to see a salesperson’s identification and permit that allows him or her to engage in home solicitations in your city.

     · If you already use a home security system, contact that company to confirm any statements made regarding your account or service.

     · Do not get pressured into signing any documents or installing any equipment immediately; a reputable company will allow you to review all terms and conditions before asking you to sign a contract or install equipment.

Arizona law gives consumers until midnight of the third business day to cancel home solicitation sales purchases in writing and sellers must return any payments made within 10 days of the cancellation. Contact the AG’s Phoenix office at (602) 542-5763, in Tucson at (520) 628-6504, or outside the Phoenix and Tucson metro areas at 1(800) 352-8431.  File complaints

Former Senator Russell Pearce: The “NEVERTRUMP” crowd are in reality Hillary supporters. As more and more information comes out about the evil, lying, corrupt Hillary Clinton, we still have the “nevertrump” crowd. What does it take to recognize betrayal to our Party and more critically our Nation? As Sheriff Joe calls them “gutless Republicans. I might go a little further and recognize their betrayal of America. “The “nevertrump” crowd are really Hillary supporters, no other way to put it. We were asked and pleaded with to vote for McCain - the most hated and distrusted Republican in Washington with Flake right beside him - and yep, we voted for them. Now we have the same crowd that supports the bi-partisan Washington Cartel trying to sneak in their Hillary support by working against Trump. How disgusting and hypocritical.
