Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor  repcomm@cox.net      Web Master John Strasser

Some Republican National Convention delegates broke out into a floor protest after GOP officials dismissed a last-gasp effort by anti-Donald Trump groups to force an embarrassing protest vote against the presumptive presidential nominee. A group of anti-Trump delegates submitted signatures to try to force a vote on the rules of the convention -- a procedure normally done quietly at the start of each convention. The rules were adopted by voice vote. After frantic protests, a second voice vote was taken as Trump opponents shouted repeatedly for a roll call vote. The convention chairman then said there were not enough signatures to force the roll call.

Today Delegates To The Republican National Convention adopted the official Platform of the party.  The Platform declares the Party's principles and policies. The Republican Party is energized to lead a turnaround from the failed policies of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, and this platform provides a thorough look at how we will restore prosperity and security to our country. Dr. Kelli Ward spoke yesterday at the Citizens for Trump “America First” Unity Rally in Cleveland. John McCain, Arizona’s senior Senator, skipped the convention and has only offered tepid support for the presumptive nominee, according to a Ward press release. Ward labeled McCain as “the ultimate establishment insider” and “Hillary’s favorite Republican,” while portraying herself as the “Conservative Champion” Donald Trump will need to confirm conservative judicial nominees in the Senate. Highlights of her address included her usual taglines “Constitutional isn’t optional” and “Mix the Mortar to Fix the Border.” Ward also challenged McCain to a one-on-one debate. “The strength of our anti-establishment ‘AZ, Not DC’ campaign has startled the senior Senator from Washington, DC. After spending millions of dollars assassinating my character, questioning my patriotism, and attacking our military family,” Ward said, “John McCain must have something to say. He should say it to my face in front of the voters.”

CD1 candidate David Gowan has achieved inclusion in the first step (On the Radar) in the National Republican Congressional Committee's (NRCC) Young Gun's program. According to the NRCC, On the Radar candidates "show potential to achieve greater status in the program as the cycle progresses." "I am deeply honored to have been included in the NRCC's Young Guns program. The NRCC does an incredible job to elect Republicans around the country, and I hope that I have the opportunity to come along side and assist their efforts come January 2017." See the Young Guns In 2008, Gowan was first elected to the Arizona House of Representatives, where he founded the Liberty Caucus, which has grown from five members into the success it is today. Most of the current elected House and Senate leadership are members of the Liberty Caucus. Gowan has an extensive conservative record and boasts the best record of any other candidate on issues like balancing the budget, taxes, protecting life, 2nd Amendment rights, state sovereignty, border security, school choice, fighting Common Core, and more. In seven years he has helped work to shrink the state budget by $2 billion. Gowan is Southern Arizona’s first House Speaker in approximately 30 years. He and his wife Jessica live in Southern Arizona with their two sons.
