8-2-16 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor      Web Master John Strasser

Potential-Spoiler-Drops-AZ-Senate-Race-Setting-Ward-Vs-McCain-Showdown … Sen. John McCain is facing a direct challenge now that Alex Meluskey has suspended his bid. That clears the way for Dr. Kelli Ward to attempt unite the Republican vote against McCain in the Arizona primary on August 30. Polls show McCain struggling to rise above 40% in the Republican primary, but so far he’s benefited from the anti-McCain vote being split among several challengers…

Alex Meluskey Withdraws From Senate Race, Citing Campaign Promise: “I made it very clear from the outset that if I was not in a position to win this race, I would do what is best for our state, and for our country, and step aside before voting began. That is why effective Aug 1, I am suspending my campaign and therefore I am not presently a candidate for the U.S. Senate. I am keeping my promise to the people of Arizona in order to clear the way for the defeat of John McCain…”

US Senate Candidate And Former Arizona State Senator Dr. Kelli Ward: “The Khan controversy is a cynical political stunt cooked up by the Clinton Establishment, and, sadly, John McCain has fallen right into it. McCain's statement today makes clear that he really wants Hillary Clinton in the White House, and his tepid "support" for Trump is only disingenuous pandering. As the military wife of a Colonel who has served 32 years in the Air Force, I sympathize with the Khan’s for the loss of their son, an American hero who sacrificed his life for our country. However, the Khan’s anger should be directed against those who sent their son into an unnecessary war, like Hillary Clinton and John McCain whose reckless policies and fuzzy Utopian ideals have destabilized the Middle East and triggered a massive refugee crisis, which they want to import into the U.S. to fatten up the welfare rolls. Donald Trump was publicly against the Iraq War and wants to keep Islamist-infiltrated refugees out of our country without proper security screening.”

U. S. Senate Candidate Clair Van Steenwyk: "We're hoping all of you will try to contact the County Recorders and see if there's some way for them to notify voters of Mr. Meluskey's withdrawing from the race. As yet no news program has mentioned Meluskey’s late withdraw and his name will still appear on the ballot therefore many of the uninformed voters - of which there are far too many - could still cast a critical vote if notified in time. I've found over the years to expect the media to notify and expect all the voters to get the message isn't a practical solution.  Please contact your recorders and hopefully with the public pressure they may find a way to notify the voters and thereby not have the voters angry at casting a vote that by all measures won't count. As any candidate hoping for your support Alex & I attended several Candidate Forums together and were the only two running for the US Senate who appeared as former Senator Ward had stated she wouldn't appear with us and for the most part that's one pledge she kept.  We know Sen. McCain must be defeated and believe we have the ability to do just that as we've been getting hundreds of messages and comments since his message and hope all of you will join us on the issues. Mr. Meluskey as of yet hasn't informed the SOS Office with a Statement of Withdraw therefore no County will be informed to let the voters know and most in the press won't file stories.

Briefs Question To Van Steenwyk: “With Breitbart reporting you at 2% in the polls -- (Meluskey was at 4%), will you be withdrawing as well since Ward/McCain are polling around 40%?”

Van Steenwyk Response: “No I won't be withdrawing and as my last email stated unless Meluskey notifies the SOS office with a Formal Statement of Withdraw he hasn't withdrawn and the SOS won't notify any of the County Recorders to post his withdraw therefore he’s still a live candidate according to AZ State Law, thanks for asking.”

Stop McCain's Anti-Gun Rampage …Why is Sen John McCain pushing Hillary Clinton’s anti-gun agenda? It’s so bad that the NRA called McCain a “premier flag carrier for the enemies of the Second Amendment.” Sign your “Citizens Directive” to John McCain urging him to reverse course and abandon his anti-gun positions immediately. Sponsored by the National Association for Gun Rights.

Sen John McCain hosted a town hall meeting with Southwest Gas employees yesterday.

LD27 PC Art Olivas: I was asked last week, “Why are we in a rut? Why has nothing change in the last 4 - 8 yrs. Illegals all over our city and state capitol are protesting, demanding and getting special treatment. If you or I did some of the things they do - we would still be in jail. We live in what is a Republican State, don’t we? So where are our politicians? I still firmly believe that some of our Republican’s are good at two things that keeps them in office. They give us fantastic lip service and play musical chairs with government offices. The only way to change the outcome is to change the people in office. Think about it. The bigger the campaign signs - the bigger the money behind that candidate. That is what I call a high maintenance politician that we can’t afford. I know that a lot of people will be pissed at me but only if the shoe fits. Wake up people. We have to fix this. It's our vote, Don't waste it. To those who have asked, I have reconnected the land line phone (same #), so you can start giving me your input again.

Sen. John McCain: “The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of the Inspector General’s (OIG) decision to open a criminal investigation into the Gold King Mine disaster is long overdue. This week marks one year since the EPA caused three million gallons of toxic, acidic, wastewater to rush into the Animas and San Juan Rivers into the Navajo reservation’s borders – devastating the Navajo peoples’ lands and livelihoods. There’s no question as to the EPA’s culpability for this spill and this criminal investigation is critical to ensuring justice is served for all those impacted by this terrible disaster.” On August 5, 2015, an EPA-supervised crew at the Gold King Mine in Colorado released roughly three million gallons of wastewater into the Cement Creek, which flows into the Animas River in Colorado and then to the San Juan River in New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. The contaminated water contained heavy metals such as lead and arsenic. McCain first called for the investigation at a field oversight hearing on “EPA’s Unacceptable Response to Indian Tribes” in Phoenix.

Sen Jeff Flake’s Round up: Safeguarding Arizona’s Water: The Arizona Republic is reporting that Sen. Flake “sealed the deal” by securing the administration’s commitment to honor and protect Arizona’s water in Lake Mead, ending the immediate threat of Arizona losing any of that water to another state. Full story here.

Key Takeaway: “Arizona can now rest assured that no other state will gets its hands on the water we have saved in Lake Mead,” said Flake. “This is a big win for Arizona in the combined effort to combat the drought, prevent a water shortage, and ensure continued access to our share of the Colorado River.”

Spurring Job Growth in Arizona: An editorial from The Arizona Republic highlights how Sen. Flake’s efforts to improve cross-border trade will help to grow Arizona’s economy and create jobs throughout the state. Full story here.

Key Takeaway: “You hear a lot of talk about border walls, but the real payoff comes from the ports of entry. The economic engine the U.S.-Mexico border represents requires maintaining the infrastructure that keeps trade and commerce moving across the border. Arizona has a particular interest in this – and our senators know it. Mexico is the United States’ third-largest trading partner and Arizona’s biggest.” Borrowed from Flake’s newsletter.
