Trent Franks Tribute To Phyllis Schlafly: Remembered for Commitment to the Protection and Cultivation of Life

Congressman Trent Franks spoke out in opposition to Proposition 205 earlier this year, citing the harmful effects recreational marijuana would have on youth and communities. He was one of the first of the Arizona delegation to take opposition. See franks speaks out against prop 205

Prop 205 Discussion A new poll shows 50 percent of registered Arizona voters support legalizing recreational marijuana.

Congressman Matt Salmon recently voiced his concerns against Prop 205 and the harms it poses to Arizonans. "I am against this initiative legalizing marijuana in Arizona. At a time when government should be shrinking and we should be having less government in our lives, the last thing I want to see is one more initiative that creates other levels of government."

Biggs for Congress Consultant Adam Deguire regarding Christine Jones’ most recent lawsuit to delay military overseas ballots from being mailed on time for the general election:

“Arizona’s primary election ended over two weeks ago and Christine Jones is still attempting “Hail Mary” legal challenges in court. Jones is now asking a judge to invalidate an election that has already been certified by the County and State, even before the results of the recount have been released. “Astonishingly, her latest ploy is to delay the deadline to mail general election ballots to our military members serving overseas, in order to buy her more time to try and overturn the will of the voters. That Jones is willing to risk ballots from being returned too late to count from men and women serving our nation in harm’s way is unbecoming from someone who desires to serve in Congress. Our men and women in uniform serve to protect our right to vote – no one should ever compromise this right for their own political motives. We hope that the courts will do the right thing and deny Jones’ latest desperate attempt to reverse the election results so our military members can receive their ballots on time.”

Corporation Commissioner Andy Tobin: As your Corporation Commissioner, I will continue in my work to ensure that Solar Energy is a benefit to all ratepayers, and that those who have invested in this technology will see positive results. "At the ballot box this November, Arizona voters will make a decision of great significance whether or not to legalize the use of recreational marijuana. The Arizonans for Responsible Drug Policy PAC was formed to actively oppose any initiative that would legalize the recreational use of the drug marijuana in the state of Arizona. Visit www.ardp.org for more information.

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS

Please comply with the 300 word limit policy. If statements exceeds the limit,it will be edited. Briefs does not post endorsement.

Senator John McCain: “Cindy and I are saddened to learn of the passing of Rose Mofford, an Arizona trailblazer and treasure. Not only was Rose Mofford Arizona’s first female governor, but a steady hand when the state needed it most. She came to be governor through unusual and difficult circumstances, assuming the office upon the impeachment of then-Governor Evan Mecham. After such a divisive episode, she rose above the partisanship and brought Republicans and Democrats together to make Arizona stronger and more prosperous. And she did so with good humor and undeniable grace. She will remain an inspiring and cherished figure in Arizona, a state that loved her just as much as she loved it.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mofford family at this time.”

Senator John McCain sent a letter on Sept 14, 2016 to Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Director James Comey expressing concern about attempts by Russian hackers to breach Arizona’s voter registration system, which led to a nine-day shutdown of the state’s voter registration website in June. In the letter, McCain urges the FBI assess the damages this caused to the election system in Arizona; what steps the agency is taking to assist states like Arizona and Illinois that have been targeted by bad actors; and what policies it has in place to protect against and respond to future cyberattacks. “[W]e cannot expect our state and local officials to fend for themselves in the face of cyberattacks, especially those that may be state-sponsored. Any foreign interference with American elections must be treated as a threat to our vital national security interests,” writes Senator McCain.
