I recently created a Twitter account so that information about my district is readily available. I encourage you to follow me if you have a Twitter account! LEGISLATIVE COMMENTARY

300 word limit policy. If statement exceeds the limit, it will be edited.

Senator Sylvia Tenney Allen - No On Prop 206: (Part I) I am very concerned about:  Prop 206, Arizona’s Minimum Wage & Earned Paid Sick Time.  If passed, Prop 206 would begin with a substantial initial increase to the minimum wage, which would move to $10 per hour on January 1, 2017, with subsequent increases occurring on January 1st of every year until $12 in 2020 when the wage would increase based on inflation. The proposal would also establish a $9 hourly base for tipped workers and make sick leave mandatory. This proposition has serious consequences to employment rates and economic growth.  More important to me is the moral aspect of this bill.  We no longer respect or protect property rights.  We use government to regulate and dictate how businesses will operate.  I don't care if it is a small business or a huge corporation, it does not belong to the voters.  The voters have no invested rights in the business:  we did not put up the capital, we do not pay the taxes, we do not share in the headaches of management, our names are not on the contract lines or deed of property, and we do not carry the liability.  So why do we have the right to tell them what they should pay in salary or what benefits they provide?   We don't have that right!  No one is forced to work for someone else, and for employees who need to find a better job, we have many programs that will help them to develop new skills and increase their education-even how to start your own business.  That is what my husband and I did.  We have owned construction businesses over the years, and we put everything we had into our business including mortgaging our home to buy equipment, etc.  To have others interfere and to tell us what we had to pay and what benefits we had to give would have put us out of business from the start. Part II will run tomorrow.
