10-6-16 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor  repcomm@cox.net      Web Master John Strasser

At 1 PM This Afternoon (Oct 6), Deputy Sheriff Dr. Richard Carmona, a highly decorated 30 year veteran of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, and 17th Surgeon General of the United States, will be joined by the leadership of the Pima County Deputy Sheriffs Association, the Pima County Correction Officers Association, and the Tucson Police Officers Association in a press conference at the Viscount Suites Hotel, 4855 E Broadway Blvd. in Tucson to address the alleged ongoing improper, unethical and/or illegal activities in the Pima County Sheriffs’ Department, that have been reported by numerous deputies, corrections officers and civilian employees.  The allegations have led to an ongoing FBI police corruption investigation, directed at appointed Sheriff Chris Nanos and his two politically appointed leaders, Chief Deputy Chris Radtke and the former Chief of Staff, who committed suicide during the FBI investigation. Many deputies and other Sheriff Department employees have reportedly been fearful of speaking out, due to the ongoing culture of retaliation and intimidation.  There has been limited media coverage of these ongoing issues.  Contact: Pima County Deputy Sheriffs Association and Pima County Correction Officers Association Sergeant Kevin E. Kubitskey mobile - 520-358-3145.

Arizona Trump Team Campaign Chairman Rep Phil Lovas will address the ‘Believers For Trump” at 7 pm., Thurs., Oct 6 at Lydia’s La Canasta Restaurant, 2023 W Wickenburg Way In Wickenburg. Those intending to dine should notify the restaurant in advance by calling Lydia Abril or Renee Sparks at 480-589-0511. Diners should arrive by 6 pm to ensure they have completed their meals before 7pm. Voter registration forms will be available for the convenience of those who would like to register to vote in the upcoming Presidential General election. A new supply of Trump yard signs will be available at the meeting. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is scheduled for Oct 20.

Former LD4 House Write-In Candidate Richard Hopkins: Arizona Does Not Have A Teacher Shortage; the shortage is of teachers willing to work for the low wages most districts offer.  According to their website in 2015, Tucson Unified started teachers at $31,775 a year.  Yet, their superintendent’s contract for FY2016 was $506,000 before they gave him a $15,000 bonus.  The contract paid for all of his expenses; plus he was allowed to keep speaking fees he was paid for trips the district his expenses to go on.  When the district received Prop 123 monies, it did not give it all to the teachers as promised; teachers received a one-time payout of $700 and the district spent the rest on other things.  According to the Auditor General, they already spend 40% more on administration than other like-sized districts; put 16% less into classrooms, with only 48.7% of their total budget going into instruction.  Consider the high school district with five schools for 10,500 students.  This district puts 48.4% of its total budget towards instruction; 7% less than like-sized districts.  This year’s starting salary is $31,600.  Yet, they have 10 assistant athletic directors, with three at one school.. How many assistant athletic directors does your school have? Every school district was faced with the same budget cuts from the state.  Some districts redirected the funds they got to where they were needed.  Staffing and program cuts were made as required. Some districts kept spending.  One district overspent their budget by 5%, totaling $3.3 million.  They didn’t spend it on buses, as they failed 73% of safety inspections. Arizona school districts elect board members every two years.  Research your candidates carefully.  Are the candidates fiscally responsible?  Do they support current year funding?  (This is the new program to pay schools based on the number of students currently enrolled.  It stops overpaying districts that have lost students, while paying for actual students in those that are gaining.) Run for or apply for vacancies on your local board.  The other side is quietly filling boards with their activists on a unified effort.  Your community needs you.

Former two-term Maricopa County Republican Committee Chairman Rob Haney is taping a series of Never McCain video. They will be listed here as Haney releases them:

Former Maricopa County Republican Committee Chairman Lyle Tuttle: Look Deeper - We hear Donald Trump talk about the barriers to the creation of new jobs in America, citing a 35% corp tax rate and overbearing regulations, but what does it mean to us? Those without actual business experience cannot be expected to fully fathom the devastating impact from regulations, but we all pay taxes in one way or another (State/Federal income taxes, sales tax, etc), so it is easier for us to relate to taxes. It is estimated that US Companies have about $2 TRILLION stashed overseas, out of reach of America’s 35% tax asking. What does that mean to you, Joe Citizen? Apple is the world’s richest company, and has major sections of its business located in Ireland. In 2011, Apple paid 0.05% tax to Ireland on their profits of $16 BILLION Euros. CONSIDER: 0.05% vs 35% TAX RATE - a no-brainer, even for mathematically challenged folks. Starbucks, Fiat-Chrysler, Google, Amazon, McDonalds and hundreds of other companies do the same or similar tactics to avoid the high US taxes. All the while, Europe gains the advantage of jobs, tax revenue from those millions of workers while America suffers unemployment and many in the US Government are asking for higher taxes because they do not seem to have enough of YOUR money to give away. What would happen if those companies were given the ability to return that money back into the USA without devastating financial penalties? What would happen if they were allowed to return their businesses to the US and operate under the same or nearly the same rules (forgetting for now about the burdensome regulations imposed by the USA)? 35% vs 0.05% -- YOU do the math! ** Many of the numbers were sourced from the Oct 1, 2016 FORTUNE Magazine

Zack Taylor, Chairman of National Assoc of Former Border Patrol: nafbpo.org --We first raised the issue of sick people in the illegal alien surge during the summer of 2014 and the lack of proper health screening. It became a political hot-potato.  It seems there continues to be scientific inquiry into the cause of the 2014 outbreak. A primary purposes of America's Immigration Laws is to prevent the spread of infectious diseases from abroad into the U.S. population. The issue is again raised October 2016 mysterious-polio-illness-paralyzing-us-children Acute-Flaccid-Myelitis-in-Children enterovirus-d68-infections-in-north-america Yes, how could it otherwise spread so quickly in the United States?  Of course, as we are seeing more and more "political hot-potatoes" can get spun out of control well beyond the realm of probability.  Which raises this question:  Would this administration suppress center for disease control data that clearly indicated that the EV-D68 outbreak in 2014 and acute flaccid myellitis cases that followed had been directly linked to the illegal alien surge of 2014?

Congressman Trent Franks Assistant Shari Farrington Warning: A lady in Monte Vista, CO had this dollar bill. This is her story. After dinner she took a $1 dollar bill out of her purse and displayed it on the table. Underneath the words "In God We Trust" someone had stamped the dollar bill in red ink--- NO GOD BUT ALLAH. We asked her where she got this dollar bill. She said it was part of her change in Alamosa, CO. We took this picture of her dollar bill. These are beginning to show up all around our country!   If anyone tries to give you one of these dollar bills as change, please refuse it and ask them to give you a dollar bill that has not been defaced.

“Political Operatives Within The Obama Administration wrongly punished conservative legal group Judicial Watch, stripping it of “media” status and trying to force it to pay higher fees for its open records requests, the General Services Administration inspector general said in a letter released Thursday. The GSA botched several high-profile open records requests, delaying them for months while political appointees got involved, Inspector General Carol F. Ochoa said. The findings were released while the administration was facing charges of slow-walking open records requests for Hillary Clinton’s emails, as well as other requests. In the case of Judicial Watch, the order to strip it of media status came from political operatives with long ties to Democratic causes — and even from the White House"...http://bit.ly/2dfh2H0

National-Security-Agency-Contractor-Arrested The F.B.I. secretly arrested a national security agency contractor in recent weeks and is investigating whether he stole and disclosed highly classified computer codes developed to hack into the networks of foreign governments, according to several senior law enforcement and intelligence officials. The theft raises the embarrassing prospect that for the second time in three years an insider has managed to steal highly damaging secret information from the N.S.A. In 2013, Edward J. Snowden, who was also a contractor for the agency, took a vast trove of documents that were later passed to journalists, exposing N.S.A. surveillance programs in the United States and abroad.

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS

US Sen John McCain: Today, I participated in a meeting with Undersecretary for Health of the Veterans Health Administration Dr. David Shulkin and other senior leaders from the VA regarding the appointment of Rima Ann Nelson to be the new Director of the Phoenix VA Health Care System. I repeated the concerns I raised in my letter to the VA last week about the new director’s qualifications to lead, especially regarding news reports indicating Ms. Nelson oversaw troubling mismanagement at the St. Louis VA Medical Center that potentially affected the health of 1,800 veterans. I also expressed my concerns about Ms. Nelson’s total lack of experience implementing the Veteran Choice Card, on which tens of thousands of veterans in Phoenix depend to receive timely, quality access to care. Finally, I underscored the importance of having the most qualified and capable leader at the Phoenix VA to change the culture that, as we learned from yesterday’s Inspector General report, has continued to fail our veterans. As ground-zero of the scandal in veterans’ health care, the Phoenix VA clearly has a long way to go to fully reform. As I said in the meeting, it is unacceptable that Ms. Nelson is the seventh director in three years – no organization can operate efficiently with such a high turnover rate. We know that real reform can only take place with committed leaders at the top who will change the culture of misconduct by enforcing accountability and putting veterans’ health care needs first. I will not rest until we reform the system in Arizona and around the country, and will be monitoring the transition of leadership at the VA closely to ensure our veterans receive the world-class health care they have earned and deserve.”

CANDIDATE COMMENTARY

Corporation Commission candidate Andy Tobin: No Commissioner has ever looked into system peak demand on our electric grid more comprehensively than me. Arizonans deserve to know the real cost and be equipped with tools to save energy and money. That is precisely why I convened a workshop to discuss system peak demand and ways to reduce it.

Mark Lewis, CAP Water Board candidate: I am a PC in LD 23 Scottsdale. I am also your elected Director on the Central AZ Project, Water Board. Gayle Burns and Cindi Moulton are retiring from the CAP Water Board after 6 years of service. We would like you to consider voting Mike Francis and Jen Brown to join me on the board. Mike is a farmer and Jen is a property manager. Please vote to keep a smooth-running and effective team on the CAP Water Board:

     1. Mike Francis
     2. Jen Brown
     3. Mark Lewis

We are running on a slate card with the other Maricopa County candidates, shown on this printable leadership flyer. Your mail ballots should be in your possession by Thursday, October 13th. Please find time to vote for these 3 key leaders to defend our water supplies in Arizona and lead us into a prosperous future. Contact: MarkLewis@CAPWaterboard.com 480-788-5003.
