12-4-16 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor Web Master John Strasser

Immediate LD24 Past Chairman Timothy Lee has withdrawn his name as a candidate for the Maricopa County Republican Committee’s Second Vice Chairman position. Lee told Briefs yesterday morning that he had put his name in motion a couple of weeks ago because no other candidates had surfaced for that position. Lee said he withdrew his name because he has other things to pursue and he saw no reason to compete against a fellow Republican who wants the job. Lee finished out former LD24 Chairman Ken Bennett’s term when Bennett resigned to run for Congress. Lee served as the AZGOP Treasurer for nearly a decade before replacing Bennett. Lee was presented with an appreciation plaque following the election of new officers early this week.

President-Elect Trump's Economic Advisory Council Member and Compact for America's National Spokesman Steve Moore is coming to Phoenix to make the case for the deep regulatory and fiscal reforms of the Prosperity Compact before the Arizona State Legislature in Phoenix at 10 am., Dec 14. Check our facebook page regularly for an RSVP opportunity!

Nick Dranias - President & Executive Director , Compact for America Educational Foundation, Inc: Did you know... Estonia's GDP per capita has increased by 50% since 1998; Hong Kong's per capita GDP of $4,700 exploded to $40,000 since 1960 (in constant dollars); U.K. Enterprise Zones secured £2 billion in new investment between 1981 and 1984 and had job and business growth of 11 percent between 2012 and 2015; and Singapore's per capita GDP of $2,500 exploded to $55,000 since 1960 (in constant dollars). It is no accident. This kind of success has been replicated time and time again both here and abroad. In a new groundbreaking policy brief, It's Been Done Before: How Prosperity Districts Deliver Policies that Work!, regulatory expert Sam Batkins and former White House policy official Dean Clancy examine the places around the world that have united local control with deep free market reform. They highlight that this experiment has been replicated repeatedly and successfully everywhere it has been tried. The Prosperity States Compact simply adopts, consolidates, improves and applies the lessons learned from these experiences in a complete policy package that is deliverable to local communities that want it. Find out more by downloading It's Been Done Before: How Prosperity Districts Deliver Policies that Work! Dranias spent a number of years at the Goldwater Institute.

Arizona Federation of Republican Women Priscilla Poese: A Gift of Liberty for the Holiday Season-- America was still a young nation in December, 1791, when its citizens received a truly exceptional Christmas gift. The intent of this gift was to prevent encroachment on our liberties by what some of the Founders feared could be an ever-more-powerful federal government. Patrick Henry had warned during the ratification process for the Constitution, "Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel." Thomas Jefferson, who was in France at the time, wrote from there, "a bill of rights is what a people are entitled to against every government on earth...and what no just government should refuse...". On December 15, 1791, the first 10 amendments to the U.S. Constitution, our treasured Bill of Rights, achieved ratification, and that mid-December date is now observed each year as Bill of Rights Day. The congressional preamble to the first 10 amendments begins with these words, "THE Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added." Foremost among the rights specified in the First Amendment is the free exercise of religion, unencumbered by congressional prohibitions or restrictions. In spite of the "Grinches" who lurk at this time of year, ready to be offended, may we always be vigilant in protecting this particular jewel of the public liberty found in the First Amendment, and may our Christmas and Hanukkah holidays be celebrated accordingly with much joy.  Borrowed from the AZ Federation of Republican Women’s newsletter.

Way More Than Draining The Swamp There is a long list of the other alphabet soup agencies and departments that need to receive similar treatment, things like the completely unconstitutional EPA, BATFE, Department of Energy, National Labor Relations Board, and how about the Department of Homeland Security and Agriculture and Housing and Urban Development, Transportation, Interior and on the list goes...

Editor’s Note: Just a reminder that announcements are limited to 300 words. If longer, they will be edited to conform to policy. Briefs does not endorse, nor does it post endorsement between GOP candidates.
