Pearl Harbor Day

Pearl Harbor Survivor Remembers: A Day Of Infamy: Pearl Harbor Day, marks the 74th anniversary of the Japanese air attack on U.S. naval and air installations at Pearl Harbor, HI, at 7:53 a.m., Dec. 7, 1941, without a declaration of war. It was then the worst attack on American soil in history: Some 2,403 died, 2008 of them Navy personnel; another 1,178 were wounded...

Boe James: Today is the 75th Anniversary of the horrific surprise attack by the Japanese on US military forces at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  The three Fountain Hills' Veterans Service Organizations (VFW Post 7507, AmVets Post 7 and American Legion Post 58) commemorate this horrific day with a Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day ceremony at 10:50 am, Wed, Dec 7 at the Veterans Memorial (17200 E El Lago Blvd).  The ceremony will start with the Posting of the Colors by VFW Post 7507's Color Guard followed by fly-over at 10:56 (7:56 Hawaiian time -the time of the initial attack).VFW Post 7507 is responsible for the ceremony. In a speech to the assembled Congress on December 8, 1941, the day following the attack, President Franklin Deleno Roosevelt told Americans "Yesterday, December 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan. The United States was at peace with that nation ...."  As the President requested, Congress declared that a state of war existed between the US and the Japanese empire.
More than 3,400 Americans were killed or wounded in that one day alone.  Many more Americans and allies were to die in the coming years before the war (now known as WW II) ended.
The public is invited to attend the Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day commemorative ceremony.  All attendees are invited/encouraged to wear patriotic clothing.  Veterans are encouraged to wear any uniform parts that still fit.  Members of Veterans Service Organizations such as the VFW, AmVets, American Legion, Disabled Vets, Marice Corps League, etc. are encouraged to wear organizational clothing.  James is Secretary of the Fountain Hills Republican Club.

• White House's Extraordinary Insult: 'Embittered' World War II Veterans Should Get Over Pearl Harbor Attack

Yesterday, Arizona House Speaker-elect J.D. Mesnard made it official: Center for Arizona Policy’s General Counsel & VP, Policy Josh Kredit will assume a new position in the Arizona House as Senior Policy Advisor & General Counsel.

Secretary of State Michele Reagan: Arizona is using an aging, cumbersome voter registration system that could potentially expose the identities and voting behavior of millions of citizens. County election personnel are bogged down engaging in manual processes in order to perform the most fundamental requirements of their job. It’s time to be proactive and take steps to improve efficiency and better ensure our data is secure. Over the past several months our office has undertaken a complete top-to-bottom review of the more-than decade old registration system. While election officials around the state are well aware of its technological limitations, we’ve come to better understand the unique challenges that will face future election officials as well. As the number of voters continues to grow, the time has come to prepare for the future Once we finalize our assessment, we’ll begin working with our county partners to develop a plan for the future. That future must include 21st century cybersecurity protections and a registration system that makes it easier for elections staff to process basic information efficiently. Election officials around the state have begun the process to transform the way we do business internally, as well as how we will deliver services to voters in the future. I’m looking forward to help spearhead the process and partner with our local officials to usher in this new era.

For Those With A Sense Of Humor: Contributed by PC Boe James - President Trump invited the Pope for lunch on his mega yacht, the Pope accepted and during lunch, a puff of wind blew the Pontiff's hat off, right into the water. It floated off about 50 feet, then the wind died down and it just floated in place. The crew and the secret service were scrambling to launch a boat to go get it, when Trump waved them off, saying "Never mind, boys, I'll get it." The Donald climbed over the side of the yacht, walked on the water to the hat, picked it up, walked back on the water, climbed onto the yacht, and handed the Pope his hat. The crew was speechless. The security team and the Pope's entourage were speechless. No one knew what to say, not even the Pope. But that afternoon, NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, CNN all knew how to cover the story. Their banner headlines read, "TRUMP CAN'T SWIM!"

300 word limit policy. If statements exceeds the limit, it will be edited.

Congressman Trent Franks: The Critical Infrastructure Protection Act was included in Sec. 1913 of the National Defense Authorization Act, which passed the House today.  This is America’s first major legislation to produce a strategy to protect the critical infrastructure of the homeland against threats of electromagnetic pulse and geomagnetic disturbance, two of the most dangerous short term national security threats facing America. To commemorate this significant achievement, the bill’s sponsor, Franks released the following statement: “It is my hope that this legislation will ultimately effect the protection of America’s vital electrical grid against the highly dangerous threats of weaponized electromagnetic pulse and natural geomagnetic disturbance. I am grateful to Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX) for their critical roles in the passage of this historic legislation. I am especially grateful to House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mike McCaul for shepherding this vital legislation through his committee. It is efforts like this that make Mike McCaul the kind of individual we need as Director of America’s Department of Homeland Security.”

Congresswoman Martha McSally: Nearly all of us have been affected by or know someone dealing with an incurable disease. Diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s, and Cystic Fibrosis, take immense tolls on not only patients, but their family, loved ones, and caretakers. Last week, the House passed groundbreaking legislation, the 21st Century Cures Act, that can make a profound difference for Americans suffering with incurable diseases. This bipartisan bill provides funding for scientific research, speeds up the discovery of new treatments, and clears a path for the development of new cures by bringing our health care infrastructure into the 21st century. Since taking office, I’ve met with many individuals and families dealing with these diseases to hear their stories.

Sen John McCain: “The global progress of American economic and political values has been the dominant trend in human events since the end of the second world war. The US and its allies prospered greatly from it and are immeasurably more secure than in the prewar world, when we tried to isolate ourselves with, among other follies, protectionist trade policies… It is a fool’s errand to try to recreate a mythical time when Fortress America was impregnable, unaffected by the world’s troubles. Instead, we should have faith in American leadership and the power of our values, including the advocacy of free trade, which have made the world and us safer, freer and richer.” –Financial Times

Congresswoman Martha McSally: Providing for the common defense is the most important obligation we have to the American people. On Friday, I was proud to vote for the National Defense Authorization Act, legislation that begins to reverse the atrophying of our armed services and ensures our military has the training, resources, and manpower it needs to keep Americans safe. The bill includes provisions I advocated for to protect Southern Arizona’s critical military assets, including the A-10 and EC-130H and missions at Fort Huachuca, as well as language I authored to mandate an A-10/F-35 fly-off. The legislation also increases end strength, preserves our most vital aircraft, includes the largest pay raise for troops in six years, and funds weapon systems, like the Tomahawk missile produced in Southern Arizona, we need to take on ISIS and other emerging threats.

U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, and Senator John McCain (R-AZ) on their commitment to making the Veteran Choice Program permanent in the 115th Congress: “Every veteran deserves access to the health care they were promised, whether it’s provided through the VA medical system or through care in the community,” said Isakson. “I applaud Senator McCain’s work on the Veterans Choice Program, and I admire his passion for serving our nation’s veterans. Next year, I look forward to hitting the ground running alongside Senator McCain and the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs to enact the necessary reforms to ensure that the Choice program can continue to be available for all veterans.”

“I am grateful that Chairman Isakson is committed to making permanent the Veteran Choice Program and ensuring our veterans never again have to face unending wait-times for appointments with no recourse,” said McCain. “Since the Veteran Choice Program went into effect, more than six million appointments have been made using the Choice Card and 350,000 more doctors, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants now deliver care to veterans than ever before. Today, the Veteran Choice Card is being used at 700 hospitals and nearly 10,000 clinics nationwide. This more than triples the number of hospitals treating veterans who would otherwise be forced to drive far from their homes to visit a VA facility, or face unreasonable wait-times for appointments. Having made so much progress, we can’t afford to allow this critical program expire. I look forward to working closely with Chairman Isakson to make the Veteran Choice Program permanent next Congress, and appreciate his ongoing leadership of the Veterans Affairs’ Committee to improve the care of all those who have served.”.
