Astronaut John Glenn Dies At Age 95 John Glenn became the fifth person in space, the third American in space and the first American to orbit the Earth on Feb. 20, 1962. He was also the oldest person to fly in space and oldest living former U.S. senator. Read full article »

Ronna Romney McDaniel, niece of former presidential candidate Mitt Romney and Michigan GOP chair, is said to be the favorite among Trump's inner circle to be the next RNC chair. Nick Ayers, a Pence aide, and Mercedes Schlapp, a GOP strategist, are also considered candidates, according to The New York Times Gov. Chris Christie is no longer a candidate to be the next Republican National Committee chairman, NYT reported.

Trump-Zeroes-In-On-RNC-Chair-Pick The Republican National Committee may sit on Capitol Hill, but its fate is being decided in Manhattan, where the field of contenders to run it has narrowed to two leading candidates, Michigan GOP chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel and Nick Ayers, a Republican operative currently serving as an aide to Vice President-elect Mike Pence.

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus to the Yavapai County Republicans: “I write to thank you for all your hard work and dedication to grow and build our Party in the great state of Arizona. On behalf of the Republican National Committee, I want to congratulate the Republican Party of Yavapai County and all the Republicans in Yavapai on an extraordinary campaign and historic Republican turnout. Your efforts helped reelect Senator McCain, Republicans up and down the ticket, and Mr Donald Trump as the next President of the United States, keeping Arizona a Red State in the process. I urge you to continue support the Arizona State Republican Party as they continue to build the necessary infrastructure for continued success in the coming years. I thank you for all that you have done and will continue to do for our Party. With a positive, forward-looking message and strong partners like the Republican Party of Yavapai County, we will claim victory in the elections ahead.

Former-McCain-Fundraiser-Gets-Probation-In-Drug-Case A former fundraiser for Sen. John McCain’s re-election campaign has been sentenced to two years’ supervised probation after pleading guilty to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

PC Boe James: Tues, Dec 6, President Obama signed a proclamation urging the flying of the American flag at half- staff. This seemed strange to me since every other proclamation I remember reading has ordered/directed that the flag be flown at half-staff at all government buildings and military installations here and abroad and aboard all Naval vessels. Here is a quote from within the text of the Presidential Proclamation (this is a in the proclamation and not added here for emphasis):"NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim December 7, 2016, as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. I encourage all Americans to observe this solemn day of remembrance and to honor our military, past and present, with appropriate ceremonies and activities. I urge all Federal agencies and interested organizations, groups, and individuals to fly the flag of the United States at half-staff this December 7 in honor of those American patriots who died as a result of their service at Pearl Harbor. "

Feel free to note the differences.  Below is a part of the text of the June 12 proclamation honoring the civilian victims in Florida: "I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, June 16, 2016. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations. "

Does the President give more honor to the civilians who died in the attack on a gay night club than he does about the over 2400 Americans killed at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941?

Arizona Town Crier Jim Ely: Just who is kidding who??  Let’s take a quote from Happy Warrior: Robert Graham Wants To Be Donald Trump's Pick For RNC Chair And Make The Party Of Lincoln More Unified And Inclusive Than Ever Before:  “As party chair, he fought back an attempt to censure him by disgruntled Republicans and deftly played both sides of the party’s longstanding divide over U.S. Senator John McCain, who is variously loved and loathed by the GOP faithful.”  Of the hundreds on this list, will anyone respond and say just what Graham has done to unify the state party!!!  Does anyone think that the members of the party were trying to censor him because he was doing a good job! Also, from the Happy Warrior article: “During Graham’s two terms as state party chair, the charismatic former businessman has revived the Arizona GOP from the doldrums of previous leadership, which was seen as incompetent, divisive, and self-defeating. That Graham has any shot at all is testament to his ambition and to the skill set he displayed at the state level and beyond.”  Does anyone wonder just what Tom Morrissey and his supporters think about this statement???  We wonder what Mr. O’Connor, Mr. Lines or Mr Thorwald who are now running for the AZGOP chair have to say about Mr. Graham’s tenure.  In summary, what did Graham do to help get Trump elected? Oh well, it your party where it seems like RINOs rule.

Former GOP candidate for the Maricopa County Recorder Aaron Flannery has announced his candidacy for 1st Vice Chair of the Maricopa County Republican Committee. “There is so much potential in our county party, and I am ready to help Maricopa County Republicans win elections in 2018 and beyond,” said Flannery said – a LD20 Precinct Committeeman.   Flannery, a small business consultant and a licensed foster parent, is an Arizona native, is a U.S. Army veteran with graduate degrees in both Business and Public Administration.. Aaron is. He and his wife of 15 years, reside in Glendale with their eight children.

Arizona’s Republican National Committeeman Bruce Ash: I have been honored to work with three men on a project which is so important to all of us who love our great country. Tucsonans William Westcott, David Carter and Charles Albanese have been the prime movers in creating The U.S.S Arizona Mall Memorial on the campus of the University of Arizona. Dedicated on the eve of the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attacks to remember the 1177 sailors and marines who were killed serving our country on December 7, 1941 the memorial is a dignified and significant permanent tribute to the brave men who gave the ultimate sacrifice to preserve freedom most of which were the same ages of most of current day students enrolled at the U of A.  Many thanks to over 400 donors here in Arizona and from across the country who believed in the importance of the memorial to remember the valor of these American sailors and marines. The U.S.S. Arizona Mall Memorial allows the great dreadnought to literally be docked on the mall forever. The 597 foot long deck of the ship fits perfectly in front of The Student Union Memorial Building on the mall from Old Main to the cactus garden. Stay tuned for additional opportunities in the future to enhance the ability to interpret and tell the history of the men who served on The U.S.S. Arizona to future generations. Secretary of State Michelle Reagan announces that The Arizona Capitol Museum (AZCM) will host a new pop-up exhibition - The Bill of Rights and You - from the National Archives, starting Dec 15, commemorating the 225th anniversary of the ratification of this landmark document. The exhibit explores the origins of the first 10 amendments to the U.S. Constitution (AKA the Bill of Rights), illustrates how each amendment protects U.S. citizens, and looks at how Americans exercise the rights outlined in the amendments. The ongoing exhibit will run well into 2017. National Archives co-curator Jennifer Johnson added, "The Bill of Rights represents the Founder's vision that it would be the people, through votes, that could change the Constitution with enough consensus. And when the people desired a Bill of Rights, our first ten amendments were added to our governing charter." This special display will become part of the AZCM’s State Constitution exhibit, which is included on tours, and available for casual visitors how would like to learn how Arizona’s Constitution supports the rights of everyone. Interpretation will be provided by AZCM staff and volunteers. The Bill of Rights and You is organized by the National Archives and Records Administration, and traveled by the National Archives Traveling Exhibits Service (NATES). This exhibition was developed in collaboration with the National Archives’ National Outreach Initiative to commemorate the 225th Anniversary of the Bill of Rights. The exhibition is presented in part by AT&T, Seedlings Foundation, and the National Archives Foundation. Sponsored with the Arizona Humanities, and the Federation of State Humanities Councils. State Treasurer Jeff DeWit: As 2016 comes to a close, the Permanent Land Endowment Trust Fund has beat industry benchmarks by a wider margin than in previous years. “This is recognition of the hard work and incredible staff at the State Treasurer’s office,” DeWit said. The fund beat many of the large public investment funds in the United States including CalPERS, CalSTERS, Dartmouth, MIT, Stanford and Harvard. “Our conservative, America first portfolio of 1,500 stocks and 405 bonds show that keeping our own staff and not outsourcing the management of Arizona’s money to Wall Street not only saves the state tens of millions in fees but also has produced better results,” DeWit said.

The $5.3 billion Endowment returned 3.32% in the last fiscal year ending June 30, 2016. This compares to the median one-year return of negative -0.74% for all endowments, according to results published by Wilshire Associates and reported by Bloomberg, LLC.  By these metrics, in the first full fiscal year under Treasurer DeWit Arizona’s endowment outperformed Wall Street’s average by over 4%.  This outperformance has continued through the end of November, to soon be reported at the upcoming December Arizona Board of Investment meeting.

Further, the Endowment has outperformed all of Arizona’s public pension funds during the same time period. “This past year has been exceptional for the State’s Permanent Land Endowment Trust Fund, the returns will benefit K-12 education for many years to come. Being a father of three school aged daughters and husband to a wife who was a public school teacher, it makes me very happy to know that the hard work being done in our office will benefit not only current school children and taxpayers, but all future generations of school children and taxpayers.” DeWit said.

Deputy Treasurer Mark Swenson added “Also, this shows the foresight of voters to have selected someone with an extensive background in investments.  Treasurer DeWit brings a wealth of financial knowledge to the office which has been instrumental in the outperformance of our returns.”

Yesterday, The Republican National Committee (RNC) Announced it raised $36.6 million in the period from October 20th to November 28th, an improvement of more than $6 million from the same period in 2012. In addition to being debt-free, the RNC has $21.4 million on hand, more than six times the amount for the same period in 2012. The RNC has raised a total of $318.8 million in 2015 and 2016 to elect Donald J. Trump and Republicans up and down the ballot, including John Kennedy in this weekend’s runoff for U.S. Senate in Louisiana.
“Our supporters’ generosity on behalf of President-elect Donald Trump helped win the White House, and that enthusiasm has also carried over past Election Day to power a robust post-election fundraising effort,” said RNC Co-Chair Sharon Day. “The contributions we received from supporters across the country enabled us to build a winning ground game that was active in 13 battleground states and had 7,600 staff and trained organizers working to elect Donald Trump president and Republicans up and down the ballot. Chairman Priebus’ wise strategic direction and skillful management of our assets helped deliver these Republican victories while leaving the Party with no debt. While we join Republicans everywhere in celebrating victories at all levels, the RNC has its eyes set on the future, and we will continue to leverage our resources toward making sure Republicans keep winning wherever they are on the ballot.”

To Liberals - No Thanks The alleged educators in Oregon’s Hillsboro public school district recently banned all “religious-themed Christmas decorations”. The ban included Santa Claus, who, last time I looked, appears nowhere in the Bible. It’s a pity we should have to point this out to educators, but Santa Claus, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, and “You’ll shoot your eye out with that BB gun” are not, in fact, part of Christmas as a religious occasion.

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS

300 word limit policy. If statements exceeds the limit, it will be edited.

Sen John McCain on the passing of John Glenn: “I’m deeply saddened by the passing of my dear friend Senator John Glenn, who defined what it means to be an American hero. John spent his life in service of the country he loved. He distinguished himself as one of America’s finest pilots and officers in World War II and the Korean War. He inspired us to reach new heights when he became the first American to orbit the Earth and put America on a path to victory in the space race. His passion for exploration never wavered in his long, distinguished career in the United States Senate, where he fought to ensure America remained a leader in science, space, and discovery. More than anything else, John served his country with profound humility. He extended kindness and courtesy to all those who had the pleasure of being in his company. John held many titles throughout his life: war hero, astronaut, and senator. But none so aptly described John as the title of ‘good man.’ Cindy and I send our deepest condolences to John’s wife Annie, their children, and the entire Glenn family. We join the entire nation in declaring one last time, ‘Godspeed, John Glenn.’

US Sen John McCain: Yesterday, the United States Senate delivered final passage of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017 (NDAA), legislation championed by Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain (R-AZ). The legislation includes additional priorities for the state of Arizona, including provisions that support wildfire management and water conservation; address flight path changes at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport; and transfer Fort Wingate to the Navajo Nation. Editor’s Note: McCain and House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry (R-TX) held a press conference after the Senate vote. See remarks live here.
