12-17-16 Briefs

Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor  repcomm@cox.net      Web Master John Strasser

Condolences To The Family of long-time Republican activist Milton Wheat, who passed away at his home on Thursday after a courageous battle with cancer. Cards can be sent to Peggy Wheat at 1926 W Pierson St., Phoenix, AZ 85015. Arrangements are pending. Milt and his son will long be remembered for all the work they did when they ran the GOP booth several state fairs recruiting new Republicans and registering voters.

AZGOP Chairman Candidate Jonathan Lines and Activist Lisa James say reports that circulated earlier in the week that they had met on Sunday for a strategy meeting for Lines campaign are inaccurate. Lines says he spent Sunday afternoon in informational gatherings with PC representatives from LD 12, 28, 25, 23, 18, 11, and 22. James says she spent Sunday in my church nursery, Christmas shopped, cleaned my house and attended my daughter's piano recital before fixing and serving my family dinner.  I did not meet with nor speak to Jonathan Lines on Sunday.”

Arizona Secretary of State Michele Reagan has announced the 2016 Presidential Electors will cast their votes for President and Vice President of the United States at a meeting of the Electoral College at 10 am., Mon, Dec 19 at State Capitol Executive Tower, 1700 W. Washington Street, 2nd Floor. According to the provisions of law governing Presidential Elections the ballots must be cast on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December following the Presidential Election. Eleven electors are scheduled to cast their votes by signing a Certificate of Vote. Arizona’s 2016 Republican Presidential Electors are: Bruce Ash, Walter Begay, Jr., Sharon Giese, Robert Graham, Alberto Gutier, Jerry Hayden, Carole Joyce, Jane Pierpoint Lynch, J. Foster Morgan, James O’Connor and Edward Robinson. Reagan will administer the Oath of Office to the electors, and also witness the certificates. This event will officially conclude the 2016 election cycle. For more information on the Electoral College, visit the National Archive and Records Administration.  http://archives.gov/federal-register/electoral-college

Kudos to AZGOP Chairman candidates Jim O’Connor, Jonathan Lines, and Frank Thorwald, who have a gentleman’s agreement that there will be no mudslinging in the upcoming January election. The ugliness of the race two years ago hasn’t been forgotten.

Congresswoman Martha McSally will speak at 10 am., Sun, Dec 17 at Wreaths Across America, “A Tribute to our Fallen,” at Evergreen Cemetery, 3015 North Oracle Road in Tucson. The event, which is held around the country, remembers our fallen U.S. service members as volunteers place wreaths at the site of veterans’ graves.

Political consultant Constantin Querard: I'll be lobbying to pass the Balanced Budget Amendment here in Arizona this year. 28 of the required 34 states are already on board. Hard to imagine any one thing we could do to improve Congress' work product more than requiring them to live within their means (or more accurately live within our means!) Reagan and Friedman began the crusade in 1975 because of the shock of seeing a $57 Billion deficit and realizing that Congress had no appetite for fiscal responsibility. We've come a long way from conservative appeals of "No Trillion Dollar National Debt!" but our situation is only much more urgent. I'll keep you all posted on the progress and how you can help!

Members of Electoral College Still Getting Barraged With Death Threats and Harassment The bullying is overwhelming Sharon Geise’s tech devices, but not her resolve to support Trump. The Mesa, Arizona, grandmother woke up Wednesday morning to more than 1,500 emails demanding she not carry out her legal duty to vote for the president-elect. “They just keep coming and coming,” Geise told The Post, estimating she’s received more than 50,000 emails since the election. “They’re overpowering my iPad.” Her answer: mass delete. Despite the avalanche, she said, her decision to back Trump is stronger than ever.

Sue Harrison, LD13 PC and past president of the PebbleCreek Republican Club: I was furious the other day and tried to call McCain's office both in DC & here to register my dismay (anger) over his attack of Trump and support for the Russian investigation….true to form…all his mail boxes were FULL so no way to protest his RINO status. Who can I contact to see what we are going to do about him? I had to leave a message with Jeff DeWit's admin since he wasn't there to talk with about my concerns. Is Bruce Ash someone I should contact? What do you suggest? I do so much appreciate the Briefs! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year! Editor’s Note: Try sending a note via Contact form to McCain’s office .mccaincontact-form  Reince Preibus is still Chairman of the RNC. fastnote/reince-priebus Bruce Ash BAsh1@paulashmgt.com Sharon Geise is the outgoing Arizona’s Woman’s Rep to the RNC Committee. Lori Klein Corbin is the newly elected AZ RNC Committeewoman lklein4@cox.net

Activist Bob Richards: "LET'S SEE What Happens" - Someone said " 2017 is poised to be one of the most pivotal years in American History". I agree. Contrary to media types lying and trashing Trump's campaign he still won the Republican race and dumb founded political elites and pollsters by defeating Hillary Clinton a second time to become President-Elect to be inaugurated January 20th 2017..How come? American citizens went to the polls in record numbers and voted their conscience believing that Trump fairly personified trustworthiness as America's next President. He signified the same spirit of truth our founders revered in leadership. I like what Will Rogers once said about polling, "No mathematician in this country has ever been able to figure out how many hundred straw votes it takes to equal one legitimate vote. This proved true in the past election cycle. The people took back their Nation in record numbers by registering and voting as responsible citizens Trump called out perversities of media reporting. Once explained citizens responded. Fake and disinformation News lost, because decadent news has no sense of scale. And sound minded citizens rejected it totally and still do. . Furthermore, media frenzies have a corrosive effect to social cultural standards. The deadly delusion of this intellectual sophistication has left in its wake a people whose souls were starved for something to satisfy their emotional hurts. That hope was perceived and realized in the belief that the "Trump Train" for change could become that vehicle to obtain security and, freedoms for people Nation-wide. This has yet to be proven. As one of my PC friends recently said, "It is what it is." My reply, "Let's see what happens?" as Donald J. Trump becomes the 45th President of the United States. "Merry Christmas & Happy New Year" to one & all.

In Answer To Questions regarding what outgoing two-term AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham will do since he was passed over for the Republican National Committee chairmanship. Graham says, “There are a number of options that we are weighing.  Julia and I are prayerfully considering the best choice for the two of us and our six children.  Our nation is truly blessed with the choices Mr. Trump is making and we are grateful for everyone who worked so hard for his victory.” Graham had hoped to replace RNC Chairman Reince Preibus as chair of the RNC. However, President-elect Donald Trump picked Mitt Romney’s niece Ronna Romeny McDaniel for the position as speculated for weeks.

Attorney General Mark Brnovich joined a 24-state coalition urging President-elect Donald Trump and congressional leaders to withdraw President Obama’s Clean Power Plan.“The so-called Clean Power Plan is an abuse of power, it’s regulation without representation,” said Brnovich.  “Eliminating this unconstitutional mandate will protect Arizona jobs and ratepayers." The bipartisan letter, addressed to Vice President-elect Mike Pence, Senate President Mitch McConnell, and House Speaker Paul Ryan, suggests a four-point strategy that begins with President-elect Trump rescinding his predecessor’s Climate Action Plan on day one. The coalition suggests President-elect Trump follow with formal administrative action to withdraw the Power Plan and related matters in court. Such action will properly effectuate the rule’s withdrawal, while negotiating an end to pending litigation. Finally, the coalition recommends Congress take longer-term legislative action. The proposed legislative fix aims to prevent any future U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from drafting similarly unlawful and/or more extreme rules. The coalition suggests the new White House work with Congress to adopt such legislation. Arizona and 26 other states challenged the EPA’s Power Plan on Oct. 23, 2015, the very day it was published. That coalition then halted the rule’s enforcement by winning an unprecedented and historic stay of the regulation Feb. 9, 2016, before the U.S. Supreme Court. The 24-state coalition signing the letter includes Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming, along with the Mississippi and North Carolina Departments of Environmental Quality. See letter Here.

Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Diane Douglas proudly announced that four Arizona school districts have been honored by the College Board with placement on the 7th Annual Advanced Placement District Honor Roll. “I am honored to congratulate these four Arizona school districts on their hard work to enhance student learning through their progressive Advanced Placement Programs,” said Superintendent Douglas.  “This accomplishment highlights the dedication of both students and teachers in their efforts to reach the highest levels of academic achievement.” The Arizona school districts receiving this honor are Maricopa Unified School District, Vail School District, Tucson Unified School District and Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Schools. These four are among the 433 school districts in the United States and Canada to receive this prestigious honor. To be included on the 7th Annual Honor Roll, districts were required to increase the number of students participating in Advanced Placement (AP) classes while also increasing or maintaining the percentage of students earning AP Exam scores of 3 or higher. Reaching these goals shows that these districts are successfully identifying motivated, academically prepared students who are ready for AP. See score_reports_data/awards

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS

Congresswoman Martha McSally: With temperatures falling and a widespread freeze expected Sunday, McSally’s office has taken action to expedite the delivery of blankets to Tucson. The 10,000 blankets are being delivered through the Homeless Blanket Program, a congressionally funded program administered by the Department of Defense. The blankets were originally not scheduled to arrive in Tucson until middle to late January. “As freezing temperatures become more frequent, we want to make sure our community is as prepared as possible to help those in need,” said McSally.

“We are happy to report that 10,000 disaster blankets requested from the Department of Defense for The Salvation Army Hospitality House will be arriving December 27th,” said Salvation Army Tucson Area Coordinator Major George Rocheleau. “When word went out on local TV stations that we had a shortage of blankets, the community responded. The Salvation Army would like to thank Congresswoman McSally for her leadership to get this delivery expedited and everyone in the community for their unselfish response in ensuring that anyone in need of a warm blanket is provided with one. Thank you for Caring and Sharing.”

“Our organization that serves homeless people is very appreciative of Congresswoman McSally stepping up, pushing the right buttons, and getting this moving so we can get blankets delivered sooner,” said Art Gage, Co-chair of Tucson Pima Collaboration to End Homelessness. “It’s been great to see a lot of different organizations coming together and dealing with this immediate problem to get it fixed.”

US Senator John McCain, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, on the Chinese Navy’s seizure of a U.S. unmanned oceanographic vessel in the South China Sea: “The Chinese Navy’s seizure of a U.S. unmanned oceanographic vessel in international waters is a flagrant violation of the freedom of the seas. China had no right to seize this vehicle. And the United States must not stand for such outrageous conduct. This brazen provocation fits a pattern of increasingly destabilizing Chinese behavior, including bullying its neighbors and militarizing the South China Sea. And this behavior will continue until it is met with a strong and determined U.S. response, which until now the Obama administration has failed to provide. Freedom of the seas and the principles of the rules-based order are not self-enforcing. American leadership is required in their defense. But that leadership has been sorely lacking. We are not witnessing a China committed to a ‘peaceful rise.’ Instead, we are confronting an assertive China that has demonstrated its willingness to use intimidation and coercion to disrupt the rules-based order that has been the foundation of security and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region for seven decades. As I have said repeatedly, we must adapt U.S. policy and strategy to reflect this reality and ensure we have the necessary military forces, capabilities, and posture in the region to deter, and if necessary, defeat aggression.”
