Republican Briefs

Editor Frosty Taylor  repcomm@cox.net      Web Master John Strasser

UPDATE: Opening His First News Conference Since The Election, President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday responded to suggestions that U.S. intelligence agencies leaked unsubstantiated reports to the media about his relationship with Russia, calling it a "tremendous blot on their record if they did that. I think it's a disgrace that information would be let out. I saw the information, I read the information outside of that meeting," he said, a reference to a classified briefing he received from intelligence leaders. "It's all fake news, it's phony stuff, it didn't happen. It was gotten by opponents of ours," Trump declared in his first news conference since late July.

U.S. Sen. John McCain delivered an explosive dossier detailing potentially compromising but unproven allegations about President-elect Donald Trump and his Russian connections, CNN and the Guardian reported Tuesday. A summary of the derogatory information was included in a classified intelligence briefing given to Trump on Friday. McCain, R-Ariz., released a statement early Wednesday confirming that he had passed along "sensitive information" to the FBI, but the statement did not provide any details about the information McCain passed along. reports: us-sen-john-mccain-gave-fbi-explosive-dossier-president-elect-donald-trump

U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) released the following statement on recent news reports: “Late last year, I received sensitive information that has since been made public. Upon examination of the contents, and unable to make a judgment about their accuracy, I delivered the information to the Director of the FBI. That has been the extent of my contact with the FBI or any other government agency regarding this issue.”

In The Wake Of The Release Of A Disinformation Dossier on President-elect Donald Trump, it has been revealed that none other than establishment Republican John McCain was responsible for passing the document to the highest reaches of the FBI. McCain, of the apparent belief that this information was extremely important, actually passed the documents to FBI director James Comey last month, according to a report by The Guardian. “The Guardian can confirm that the documents reached the top of the FBI by December. Senator John McCain, who was informed about the existence of the documents separately by an intermediary from a western allied state, dispatched an emissary overseas to meet the source and then decided to present the material to Comey in a one-on-one meeting on 9 December, according to a source aware of the meeting,” the Guardian report reads. LD22 Announced To It’s PCs That “Voting will be electronic so bring your iPad or cell telephone or personal laptop to cast your ballot” at the Jan 14 Maricopa County Republican Committee’s Statutory meeting at El Zaribah Shrine Auditorium 552 N 40th St Phoenix AZ 85008.

Briefs Question To MCRC Chairman Tyler Bowyer: “Why are you using electronic voting at the Jan 14 meeting when it became such a mess at the AZGOP mtg?  A lot of people have no idea how to use their phones for electronic voting.  Also, I understand there is no way to trail those votes to make sure they are recorded???” Bowyer responded: “Yes there are - it's going to be far less of a mess, we feel more prepared by providing printed cards for folks and a much shorter slate to vote on.” So, there you have it folks. Let’s hope it goes smoother than the AZGOP experiment that became chaos of confusion for many PCs.

ATTN State Committeemen: Watch the US mail for delivery of your Call Letter for the Jan 28 AZGOP Statutory meeting at the Church of the Nations, 6225 N Central Ave, Phoenix AZ 85012.

LD's 12, 16, 17, 18, 23, 25 & 26 are conducting a combined meeting at 7 pm., Wed., Jan 11 at the Tri-City Baptist Church, main building's sanctuary, 2211 W. Germann Rd., Chandler, AZ 85286 to hear from candidates for the Maricopa County Republican Committee and Arizona State Republican Party Governing Board. Download The Agenda Here Volunteers are needed at 6:30 to greet guests. Contact: LD17 Chairman Bill Moll.

LD23 Chairman Nancy Ordowski: Timeline on LD23/Robert Graham Saga:

·         On December 1, 2016 – LD23 held their Organization Meeting and elected their Officers and State Committeemen.

·         On December 6, 2016 – AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham sent a letter to LD and County Chairs, stating they had been receiving complaints.  (A little late for LDs as State Statue said the meetings had to be held between November 19 and December 3.)

·         On December 9, 2016 – Chairman O'Connor and Ordowski received letter from Robert stating that he had received dozens of complaints, and we were to hold another election.

·         On December 15, 2016 – I emailed and USPS mailed a 5 page answer stating why it was unlawful to hold another meeting.  (All of Robert's communications have come through e-mail, even though he states we are not to use e-mail.)

·         On December 19, 2016 – Robert mailed (USPS) to all of LD23 PCs a letter asking them to submit complaints and request another election.

·         On December 22, 2016 – I mailed my letter to Robert by certified mail, only then did I get any response.

·         On December 29, 2016 – We met with Robert, Tim Sifert and his lawyer, our lawyers, Tim Horn and myself were present.  We were told they had received more than 40 complaints, but they had nothing in writing to inform us of the complaints.

·         Between December 22 and 27 we received 9 e-mails requesting we hold another meeting.

·         After our meeting at AZGOP on 12/29 we received 7 more requests for another meeting.  These were dated from 12/29 – 12/30.  Two were even sent while we were still in our meeting.

·         On January 3, 2017 the same people from LD23 and AZGOP met.  We asked for all of the complaints, still no information supplied by Robert.  On 1/3/17 we received 5 more requests to hold another meeting.  At that meeting Robert's team agreed to create a list of guidelines to help Districts and Counties for future organization meetings.  Goal to not create these challenges in the future.

·         By January 6, 2017 – A second deadline was set and we were to receive the proposed guidelines and the 40 or more complaints they said they had received.  Our attorney contacted them daily for information and as of January 9, we have had no reply.

·         From the 24 requests we received by email, only 4 people did not take advantage to attend the meeting on December 1 and vote in person or by proxy.  Our 1st Vice Chair called all of the 24, 17 spoke with him and had no real complaint, the others didn't return his call.

·         It is our opinion that none of these requests for another meeting were made until after Mr. Graham sent out the request for a new meeting on December 19, 2016.

·         Why does he want to disenfranchise our duly elected State Committeemen?

Activist Rose Sperry: Do you have any information regarding folks running for Member at Large. Has a call been sent out so that those candidates can submit their names to appear on the ballot? Editor’s Note: The Briefs invitation includes ALL candidates running for AZGOP and MCRC offices. Briefs has received no information from Maricopa County or the AZGOP regarding members-at-large.

LD23 PC Lynne Breyer: Please actually read and understand what was written. "Lynne Breyer, LD23 former Secretary: Obama, Democrats, media and #NeverTrump Republicans proved they just cannot accept election results. In LD23, Sheila Muehling, Boe James, Chris Brant and the Chattering Class along with Robert Graham apparently can't either. 1-9-17 Archives "No where in there did I accuse Boe James or Chris Brant of being #NeverTrumpers!  Those are two separate and distinct sentences, the first about one group of people, the second clearly about a different group of people.

The Yavapai County Republican Committee unanimously passed this resolution in support of the Electoral College and opposed to the National Popular Vote Compact during the Jan 7 Yavapai County Statutory/Organizational meeting:

Resolution Supporting the Constitution and the Electoral College

·         Whereas, the Electoral College represents the inspired genius of our Founding Fathers as brought forth in the United States Constitution, and

·         Whereas, the Electoral College was designed to ensure the efficient and peaceful transfer of power; and

·         Whereas, the Electoral College protects the citizens of small population states from being dominated by as few as three large population states; and

·         Whereas, the so-called National Popular Vote by nullifying the Electoral College is a dangerous threat to our Constitutional Republic, circumventing the Constitutional requirement of 38 states to amend the Constitution; and

·         Whereas, the National Popular Vote creates a fake majority by forcing electors to vote against the votes cast by their own constituents; and

·         Whereas, the nullification or elimination of the Electoral College would overnight make irrelevant the votes of Arizona voters because candidates would only be interested in campaigning in large population states making small states meaningless zeros; and

·         Whereas, there is no threshold of what constitutes a “majority” under National Popular Vote. Therefore a presidential candidate could be elected with as little as 15% of the popular vote; and

·         Whereas, under the National Popular Vote scheme chaos would ensue in any close election with continuous vote recounts; and

·         Whereas, under the Electoral College no single faction or region of the country can elect a president ensuring broad representation across America; therefore, be it

·         Resolved, that the Yavapai County Republican Committee encourage our legislators and candidates to oppose the National Popular Vote, and be it further

·         Resolved, that the Yavapai County Republican Committee shall support the preservation of the Electoral College.

Briefs Invites All Candidates running for AZGOP and Maricopa County Republican Committee offices, during the January 2017 Mandatory meetings, to submit their candidate announcement or a resume for posting to help PCs get acquainted with the candidates they will vote on. 300 word limit per candidate.

National Trump Campaign COO and AZ State Treasurer Jeff DeWit is scheduled to address the Feb 25, 2017 Annual Yavapai County Republican Committee’s Lincoln dinner. Details tba.

At The First Open Meeting of the year, the Corporation Commission began new traditions including adding time for a brief prayer to start the meeting. The prayer was offered by newly elected Commissioner Boyd Dunn. “It is not uncommon for government bodies to have time for prayer,” said Chairman Tom Forese. “I believe prayer in any form encompasses all faiths and beliefs. This offers a welcome to the public and affirms our diligence to act in good faith for all our citizens.” The prayer will be given at the start of each Open Member by a member of the community or government leader just before the Pledge of Allegiance. In addition to the prayer, the Chairman is inviting a special guest each meeting to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Newly elected State Senator and retired Marine Sonny Borrelli performed the honors at today’s Open Meeting. Borrelli served in the Arizona House of Representatives representing District 5 since 2013 and was recently elected to the State Senate in November to represent District 5. “This is the perfect blend of dedication to God and Country,” said Forese.

Briefs Sent MCRC Chairman Candidates identical questions so you can get to acquainted with both candidates. Candidates are limited to 300 words for their response. Question #6: How many Republican voters have your personally registered the past two years?

TRISTAN MANOS: As a part of my 3-Point Republican-Strong Action Plan, you'll see "Maximizing Maricopa County Republican Voter Registration" being emphasized for the important activity it is. While I must admit to personally registering relatively few voters, as it relates to driving up Republican numbers I've concentrated my attention mostly on recruiting and signing up PCs, promoting the Republican Party, Republican platform, Republican candidates, other Republican-related activities, and the all-important (make-or-break) getting out the Republican vote (GOTV). We must identify the voter registration activities that work best (keeping those going), identify where we can perform even better (working harder and smarter), also being bold in exploring new ideas for promoting Republican voter registration.  We must take advantage of the opportunity to promote the Republican Party's wide-ranging multitude of strongpoints that people throughout Maricopa County see as real and meaningful in their own lives, for their own families, for their own communities, for their own future, and for future generations. Seeing the potential for traditional promotion of the Republican Party to drive voter registration transformed into a multidimensional marketing campaign opens up new opportunities for making important inroads and major breakthroughs. In a way, the Republican Party is a "brand," and it's up to us to show the people of Maricopa County why the Republican Party is the place to be.

CHRIS HERRING: Herring has not responded to Question#5 - How many PCs have you personally recruited and signed up the past two years? Herring has not responded to #6 at post time.

Briefs Sent Identical Questions to the three AZGOP Chairman candidates. Their answers will be posted every day until the Jan 28 Mandatory Meeting election.Question 9 Will you be in the office every day and accessible when travelling around the state?

JIM O’CONNOR: As Chairman I shall be working full-time in that job from the headquarters offices. I am retired and have the time to devote to turning this state party around. Most of my personal time will be devoted to working with every willing member of the newly elected Executive Committee. This party asset has been a hidden and underutilized treasure, consisting of 84 of our party’s most experienced networkers living and breathing Republican values throughout our state. As I serve and empower them, they will then serve and empower the Precinct Committeemen statewide. The funding needed to finance the tools and training our state party will supply to all County & District Committees, will be raised through my team of well connected patriots in the political marketplace of Arizona. These individuals are eager to present me and our party’s vision for investing AZGOP donor funds into tripling the number of active PCs statewide.  My 42 years experience in the investment advisory industry, including an 18 month pro bono advisory role to the California Senate Select Committee investigating the Orange County bankruptcy and creating new Permitted Investment Regulations under the CA State Code after their 1994 incident), comes with a successful track record of earning the trust and respect of large and small public boards. As the original founder of my privately owned firm in Los Angeles in 1981, the company grew its public clients to 112 cities, counties, school districts, airports, port authorities, and state agencies throughout California and Nevada. Additionally, I have raised significant multi-million dollar investments in restaurants, oil & gas exploration ventures, Real estate transactions, and a organic food processing venture. After retiring to Arizona, I began serving on several charitable ministries, including fund raising. Lastly, I served on two church fundraising committees for building programs; the first in LA  in the early 1980’s and a larger one here in Arizona in the early 2000’s.For me this activity is a passion, it’s fun and I have every confidence that together, we can accomplish our lofty goal. Join me and vote JIM OCONNOR on January 28th for AZGOP Chairman!

FRANK THORWALD: My intention is to meet with all the county and LD leadership on a regular basis throughout the state, so that we can tailor solutions to the specific needs of each of the LDs and counties, such as:  training; fundraising; PC recruitment; public relations; social media, issues recruiting people to run for school boards and other local offices and so on. I want to be more accessible and I want to have a kitchen cabinet that will bring their thoughts, ideas, opinions and suggestions for potential use throughout the state. I would like to get the counties and the LDs to coordinate their meeting schedules, so that candidates, trainers, and I can meet with them on a regular basis. When I am not travelling for these meetings or required national GOP meetings, I will be in the office.  But, even if I am not, I will be readily accessible.

JONATHAN LINES: I will be accessible and transparent, every day, whether I am in the Phoenix office or traveling across Arizona. Every PC will have my personal address and cell phone number, 928-580-0349. Anyone who wants to reach me will be able to, at any time, and I’ll always be responsive to the PCs and State Committeemen who I consider to be my ultimate boss. That philosophy of transparency and accessibility has served me very well as a County Party chairman, which is likely why I have been re-elected twice since my initial election in 2011.

The Current Tentative List of 1,235 state committeemen, including nominees not yet formally elected, is here:  http://az.gop/arizona-republican-state-meeting-2017-committeemen/

A Reader Points Out, “We note with humor that many candidates running for Board, Officer and State Committeeman positions, especially in Maricopa County GOP circles, are the most unprepared, never trained, never attend meetings, never do a damned thing, pop-up candidates that we have ever seen. Where are all those fun, good folks that we use to work side by side with? Who has chased away all the leaders? Who has chased away all the Party workers?”

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS

300 word limit policy. If statements exceed the limit, it will be edited

Congressman Paul Gosar: As your Congressman, it is my duty to support and defend the Constitution and to protect our Republic. As my very first act of the 115th Congress, I took the following oath: "I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter; So help me God." I took that oath as a solemn vow to YOU that I would honor the Constitution of the United States, and I strive every day to uphold my promise.

Congressman Paul A. Gosar after introducing H.R. 372, the Competitive Health Insurance Reform Act of 2017, legislation that would amend the McCarran-Ferguson Act of 1945 to restore the application of federal anti-trust laws to the business of health insurance: “The healthcare insurance industry continues to be one of the least competitive and least transparent industries in the entire nation. That’s because for over 70 years health insurers have enjoyed a special legal exemption from anti-trust laws resulting in less competition and higher healthcare costs for every single American family.  By restoring federal anti-trust laws to the business of health insurance, my legislation represents a critical first step to establishing the proper foundation for a competitive and consumer-driven health insurance marketplace. Hospitals, doctors and most importantly, patients benefit when health insurers compete to provide quality coverage. Ending this special-interest exemption is an integral piece of any Obamacare repeal effort and is the only reform that will actually reign in insurance company practices, increase competition and lower prices for consumers.” The full text of the Competitive Health Insurance Reform Act of 2017 HERE.

Congressman Paul Gosar: It's the first week of the new Congress and we are already hitting the ground running. Millions of Americans made their voices heard over this past election and I heard you loud and clear. It's time to end business as usual in Washington and start delivering real solutions to the problems facing our country. That's why I was proud to join my Republican Study Committee colleagues this past week in introducing a plan which I helped author to repeal and replace Obamacare. Americans have been struggling under President Obama’s failed policies for far too long, and they deserve real affordable healthcare options. Our bill, the American Health Care Reform Act, will fully repeal Obamacare, increase access to affordable, portable health insurance and increase competition between insurers. Instead of more government control, we believe in more patient control. Click HERE to learn more about our plan released this past week.

Congressman Paul Gosar: This past week, Republicans and Democrats in the House of Representatives sent a clear signal to the entire world that America stands with Israel. It is a shame to see President Barack Obama abandon decades of U.S. support for Israel at the United Nations and allow a blatantly anti-Israel resolution to pass the Security Council last month. The President should have exercised the United States’ veto authority at the U.N. Security Council to block the resolution proposed by Egypt and the Palestinians. The resolution is ridiculous, non-binding, and solely intended to weaken Israel’s position in peace talks with Palestine. Peace efforts between these entities must be directed by the Israelis and Palestinians themselves, not dictated by the U.N. or other international actors. Thankfully, in just 12 days, we will have a new president who will join Congress in reversing President Obama's shameful legacy of abandoning one of our closest friends and allies. The vote taken by the House on Thursday night should put the entire UN Security Council on notice: In the Trump Administration...America will ALWAYS stand with Israel.

Congresswoman Martha McSally: On January 8, 2011, our country and community changed forever when a gunman killed 6 and wounded 13 at Representative Gabrielle Gifford’s Congress on your Corner event. Few of us will ever forget how we felt upon hearing that heartbreaking news. Now, six years later, our community is coming together to honor the victims and provide hope for the future. On Sunday, I joined with hundreds of people to form the symbol of a “human embrace” at Hi Corbett Field. The embrace symbol was designed to communicate togetherness, solidarity, and empathy. What happened six years ago wasn’t just an attack on our community, but an assault on civil discourse and representative government. For that reason, on Friday, I introduced legislation to designate a January 8th Memorial in Tucson an “Affiliated Area” of the National Park Service. This designation assigns the memorial the national recognition and significance it deserves. Op-ed along in the Arizona Daily Star Here. On Thursday, I led the U.S. House in a moment of silence to honor the January 8, 2011 shooting victims. This event holds a somber significance for Congress as it was the first assassination attempt of a Member of Congress while she  was engaging with her constituents and the first assassination of a Congressional staffer, Gabe Zimmerman, in the line of duty.

Congresswoman Martha McSally: The Obama Administration’s disgraceful abandonment of our close ally Israel at the UN should never have happened. Now more than ever, we need to stand with Israel, the only real democracy in the Middle East. That's why I was proud to cosponsor legislation to condemn the UN's resolution, legislation that passed the House last week with strong bipartisan support. See vote Here.

Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) yesterday reintroduced the Safe and Affordable Drugs from Canada Act, bipartisan legislation that would allow individuals to safely import prescription drugs from Canada, creating major savings for consumers and bringing greater competition into the pharmaceutical market. In 2013, average prescription drug prices were twice as expensive in the United States as they were in Canada, with high costs leading some Americans to skip doses or forgo filling prescriptions altogether: “The rising cost of prescription medication in recent years is unfairly burdening families in Arizona and across the country who often worry about whether or not they will be able to afford filling a prescription,” said McCain. “We must do more to stop the unsustainable increase in the price of prescription medication by introducing greater competition into the pharmaceutical marketplace. That’s why I’m proud to reintroduce this legislation, which would allow individuals to safely import prescription drugs into the United States from our neighbors to the north and save individual Americans up to hundreds of dollars a year.”
