Graham’s Last Scam: Sunday’s Comic

It’s Amazing how some folks think they can just waltz into the county or state GOP conventions and distribute their literature on the delegate chairs. Perhaps no one has informed them that there is a fee for purchasing a table, displaying banners, and the distribution of flyers, etc. The MCRC Convention planning committee distributed flyers, listing the table, banner and flyer fees, weeks prior to the Jan 14 meeting. All of this information was posted time and again in Briefs, nevertheless a group of well-meaning ladies had to be escorted out of the Maricopa County Republican Convention meeting room three times on because they kept going back into the room to lay their flyers on chairs. Perhaps they aren’t aware that those in charge of planning the conventions are responsible for screening what gets into the meeting room or the registration packets. Perhaps they don’t realize that the income from the table, banner and packet info fees helps pay for the expense of renting the convention hall. The reason the committee now screens what can be distributed is because nearly a decade ago, some very disturbing literature was distributed (without permission), which resulted in officials scampering up and down the aisles removing the unwelcome flyer before the meeting started. – ft

ATTN AZGOP State Committeemen: For the past year, PCs and State Committeemen have complained about some of the shenanigans that were pulled at last year’s Maricopa County and AZGOP Statutory meetings. In an effort to prepare this year’s attendees, the Silliness Site has posted a well-researched two-part YouTube video narration Of-Improper-Motions, Voters-Representation, Precinct-Committeemen-Political-Parties-Statutes-And-Bylaws A written version can be downloaded at the same link. It is well worth you time to get acquainted with the guidelines. Watch the video, be prepared, particularly if you think your LD might be targeted for disenfranchisement to keep you from voting on agenda items or from running for an officer position at the Jan 28 AZGOP Statutory meeting in Phoenix. - ft

Briefs Sent Identical Questions to the three AZGOP Chairman candidates the past couple of weeks to help our readers become better acquainted with those seeking to head up the state party. Their answers have been posted daily and will resume again tomorrow. The trio had a very long day yesterday, chasing votes at events in Pinal and Pima counties, so we’ll give them a break to rest up a bit today. Question #19 is scheduled for tomorrow. - ft

And Speaking Of The AZGOP Chairman Candidates response to Briefs questions, Yavapai County Chairman Mark Sensmeier has saved a file of all the Q&A that have been posted so that he can make it available to his state committeemen before they head for the Jan 28 AZGOP Statutory meeting in Phoenix this coming weekend.

The Current Tentative List of 1,235 state committeemen can be viewed or downloaded at:  http://az.gop/arizona-republican-state-meeting-2017-committeemen/

The AZGOP Chairman's Awards Dinner 2017 is scheduled at 6 pm., (reception at 5:30 pm.) Fri., Jan 27 at the downtown Phoenix Hyatt Regency Hotel, 122 N 2nd St. in Phoenix. Live entertainment. $60 per person for $500 per table. Tickets at 2017awards@azgop.org 602-957-7770.

The AZGOP Mandatory Meeting for all Arizona Republican State Committeemen is scheduled for Sat., Jan 28, 2017 at the Church of the Nations at 6225 N. Central Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85012. Call headquarters for further information such as credentialing, meeting time, agenda items, etc. 602-957-7770.

A Reminder to outgoing AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham to go shopping this week. As some may recall, former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio gave his wife Ava a diamond every year he served in public office. Based on that tradition, Graham’s wife Julia, is due a few good sized rocks. Maybe a diamond pendant and matching earrings would cover the past four years. Toss in a dozen roses, too.

Yavapai County Republican Women have become a charter Arizona Federation of Republican Women, giving AzFRW 28 clubs in Arizona. Congrats ladies.

Retired Navy Officer Boe James: Frosty, thanks so very much for posting the link to 'twas-the-night-before-inauguration'  I really loved it as did those I forwarded it to. Thanks again.

Protective Intelligence and Assessment Specialist Consultant Lyle J. Rapacki,Ph.D: How special to see one of Arizona’s Favorite Sons, former State Senator Carlyle Begay, participate in the Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.  I remember very well the day, a couple of years back, when Carlyle and I helped another favorite son of Arizona, Senator Chester Crandall, on his ranch during branding operations of cows.  Senators Begay and Crandall knew very well what they were doing, and they smiled a whole lot at me, the “City Slicker.”  Go to Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service at 1:59:07, and you will immediately hear Carlyle begin his prayer, and then watch as he comes down the aisle dressed in traditional Navajo wear…just wonderful! Inaugural Prayer Service Live stream Washington National Cathedral

Former Arizona GOP activist Sam Crump: With all the attention on the nation's capital, I wanted to share that my 3x great uncle was Daniel Chester French (1850-1931). He was a great American Sculptor who created the statue of Abraham Lincoln inside the Lincoln Memorial. 3 new photos. He made his home in Stockbridge, MA, and you can visit his home and studio there. If you ever visit there in western Massachussetts, you can also visit the Norman Rockwell museum and attend the Boston Symphony in session at Tanglewood.

Activist Marianne Ferrari: In the 8 years I’ve known Jim O’Connor, I’ve never seen him be anything but honest and fair. In his working life, he was trusted with the management of more than $1.4 Billion in investments, for institutional investors in California. As a volunteer, he also raised millions for a variety of organizations and new ventures, so, he has what it takes to be a formidable fundraiser for our party. In running for state chairman, Jim has no career agenda. He wants to use his considerable skills and knowledge to make the AZ GOP an effective force for good. Jim’s fair-mindedness is real: He will honor our bylaws and will set an inclusive tone. This change, long awaited, will be felt by all, and will unify our party. Most importantly, Jim will be faithful to the Republican platform, and will recruit and fully support candidates who do the same. I have great respect to this true gentleman.

Town Crier Jim Ehl: Arizona Revised Statutes (ARS) list the duties of a PC is to register voters and assist voters to the polls, and further duties are to be determined by the state committee bylaws.  Whoop-de-do!  Doesn’t that sound exciting?  The state bylaws do not list any duties for PCs.  Maybe that’s why we have about a third of the over 9,000 PC authorized positions. This is how the 3 AZGOP Chairman candidates answered MCRC Briefs question: “One of the biggest complaints PCs have had for the past few years is the lack of response to phone calls and messages left at HQ for the chairman. How do you plan to provide promptly response to constituent?”

    • O’Connor:  “I will be once again opening the office to PC volunteers. They will be manning the phones and the front doors with warm and friendly attitudes”
    • Lines:  I will always be accessible to PCs to discuss their concerns, support their initiatives and make sure they have the resources they need to elect more Republicans to office.”
    • Thorwald:  No response at post time

According to the antiquated AZ GOP bylaws “The education chairman, in coordination with the county education chairman, shall provide an appropriate manual and ensure that all precinct committeemen are properly trained.” Has anyone ever seen that happen???

According to the Briefs question, PCs want to be heard!  Political parties are the ‘go between’ between the voters and the elected elite.  The PCs are elected or appointed officials - 1 in 125 registered voters of their party.  We need a state chairman with enough backbone to change the autocratic AZ GOP bylaws to create a PC recruitment committee with designated members from each county, and change the executive committee membership to have only the county chairs (or their first or second vice) meet monthly during election years, or quarterly during off election years, to evaluate the concerns of the PCs to be passed on by the state chair to our elected elite.

LD15 PC MARCUS HUEY: Over the past six years I have had the pleasure of working with Chris Herring on various political projects. Most recently, in 2014, Chris and I ran as a slate for CD 8 Members at Large, and were successfully elected. Chris has the skill sets needed to be a successful leader of the MCRC, and has proven these skills in his successful duties as Chairman of LD 21 and President of the Maricopa County Young Republicans. Chris is one of the most capable planners/ organizers I have ever worked with. Under Chris' leadership I truly believe that we will see more Republican PCs recruited, more Republican voters registered, and more money raised. At the end of the day these successes will lead to more Republicans elected to office. Chris has my full support as the Chairman of the Maricopa County Republican Party, and I hope he has yours. Thank you for all you do Frosty! Huey Is Also A CD8 Member AZGOP Executive Committee Member At Large.

Arizona Project Chairman Ron Ludders: You may have heard that US Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced that the Senate Democrats will filibuster (or stop) President Trump's Supreme Court nominees so that they cannot receive the needed 60 votes needed to confirm.  By the way, the Constitution does not require 60 votes as you may have heard from Schumer.  To confirm a nominee, all that is needed is 51% of those voting, not 51 Senators.  The Senate rules require 60 votes! These rules can be changed by a majority vote of the Senate.  This is the so-called Nuclear option.

It's time to call Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and tell him to invoke the Nuclear option when it comes to President Trump's court nominees. McConnell may be reached at any one of the following numbers:

·         Washington DC        202.224.2541
