AAARC Chairman Rev Clyde Bowen: Thank you for the enlightening article regarding Dr Wright being denied, delayed & dissed by his own fellows. Shameful, shameful, travesty. God works in mysterious ways. Ironic, the internationally known "rock star" who went to school with Coretta Scott King, wife of MLK, being denied the right to vote. God's Timing. I will learn from this. I will lead from this. Thanks again.

AFP-Arizona's Truth in Spending legislation (SB 1189 ) will be going to the Senate Appropriations Committee this coming Tuesday, January 31.Truth in Spending would require the Legislature to send out a press release any time it chooses to grow the state government's budget faster than the rate of growth of population and inflation.

AFP Director Tom Hennessey: You can  register for the hearing Tues at 2pm.
Please
TAKE ACTION TODAY with our easy-to-use email system and let your legislators know that you don't want government spending to grow faster than your own family's budget. Another effective way to engage in state legislative policy fights is to enroll in the Legislature's Request to Speak (RTS) system. RTS not only provides Arizona citizens the opportunity to speak in a committee hearing at the Legislature, but also allows activists like yourself to sign in from home or work to put your name "for" or "against" bills that are working their way through legislative committees.  Please email me at tjenney@afphq.org to learn how to use RTS. Finally, thanks to Senator John Kavanagh for introducing the bill!

Grassroots Legislative Activism Training: LD Chairmen, Heads Of Organizations, And Other Interested Parties: During January and February, Jose Borrajero will be conducting 30 minute training sessions to help your members become more effective at providing input to our state legislators regarding pending legislation, with particular emphasis on how to use the ALIS RTS system. If WI-FI is available at your location, and you have the extra time, an on line, 10-15 minute live demonstration may be added. This service is free to groups within the Phoenix Metro area. Groups outside of this area will be charged a nominal fee to cover travel expenses. Sessions will be booked on a first come first served basis. To schedule a session or get more information, contact Jose at joseb4538@gmail.com

Priebus On NBC's 'Meet The Press': Executive Order 'Doesn't Affect' Green Card Holders White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus told NBC's 'Meet the Press' on Sunday that President Trump's executive order restricting travel 'doesn't affect' green card holders. He then muddied the waters by adding that anyone, including U.S. citizens, traveling back and forth from the seven countries affected would be subject to additional screening. 'Perhaps other countries need to be added,' he said.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Sunday defended President Trump's order to temporarily ban immigration from seven mostly-Muslim nations – and deflected criticism over countries like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan not being included in the ban."These are countries that have a history of training, harboring, exporting terrorists," Conway, counselor to the president, told "Fox News Sunday." "We can't keep pretending and looking the other way." Conway said the Obama administration and Congress essentially came up with the list of seven, citing the Terrorist Prevention Act of 2015. LEGISLATIVE COMMENTARY

300 word limit policy. If statement exceeds the limit, it will be edited.

Debbie Lesko with Judy Musgrove Burges and 11 others: Tomorrow I will be introducing my ESA legislation. Here are some highlights:

     • ESAs are a WIN-WIN for the student and the taxpayer

     • $ follows the student, instead of the school

     • Great OPTION for parents that want to provide the best education for their child

     • Saves taxpayer $: Avg. ESA is $5,200, compared to the avg. of $9,500/student/per spent in the public school now. That is a SAVINGS of $4,300/student/year!

     • Phased in over 4 years, but still capped at 5,500 students.

     • Students in grades 3-12 must take a national standardized test.

What do I say to opponents who say this is draining $ from public schools into private parochial schools?

     • That is a FALSE narrative.

     • Schools are funded per student. Just like when a child leaves a district school to attend a charter school, the money follows the student to the charter school. The same will be true for ESAs.

    • Besides, ESAs are capped at 5,500 students out of 1.1 Million students. That is a miniscule amount.

It all comes down to this:

    • I want to give parents choice and save taxpayers $.

    • The district schools don’t want competition. They will fight me just like they fought against charter schools for the last 20 years.

Thankfully, AZ parents won. They can now choose between a district or charter school and soon they will be able to choose an ESA option too. What do I say to opponents who say this is draining $ from public schools into private parochial schools?
