**Graham is reported by PCs in that district to have interfered with their election

^There is no such thing as At Large State Committeemen

Kudos to LD23 Chairman Nancy Ordowski for sticking to her guns and making sure all of her state committeemen were guaranteed credentials and voting rights at the AZGOP Statutory meeting on Jan 28 in Phoenix. She put up one heck of a battle for her team when former chairman Robert Graham was threatening to disenfranchise all of the 119 LD23 state committeemen.

And Speaking Of The AZGOP Convention, reports have been verified by several high level sources that the Republican National Committee (RNC) sent Alexis Darnell, the Regional Political Director For The Western Region, to Arizona when RNC was alerted to the turmoil surrounding the Chairmanship election. After weeks of demands and haggling, Graham’s disenfranchisement threatens were withdrawn and an agreement was signed between him and Ordowski seating the LD23 delegates at the convention. Oh, to have been a mouse in the corner! Darnell attended the Friday night Chairman’s Award’s dinner, as well as the Saturday convention. -ft

LD23 PC Ronald A Smith: It is true that I had offered to resign my elected position as a state committeeman and have Dr. Wright appointed to take may place. It is also true that the best laid plans often go astray. If everyone recalls, Robert Graham's action to prevent all 119 elected committeeman from LD 23 from being credentialed is actually the reason the change was not made. I had contacted LD 23 Chairman Nancy Ordowski and requested she put aside my request while the larger problem of actually seating all of the 119 elected committeeman was solved. The agreement to credential LD 23's committeeman was only reached two days before the state meeting. In order to insure that my one vote would not be lost, I attended the meeting, was credentialed and voted. Most reasonable people would agree this was the prudent thing to do. Rather than criticizing Chairman Nancy Ordowski, she along with her team should be commended for their outstanding performance in securing all 119 committeeman's ability to vote. By their efforts alone our district was able to muster a total of 117 votes in person or by proxy that otherwise would have been lost. Congratulations Nancy for a job well done.

Newly elected AZGOP Chairman Jonathan Lines replied, “Nothing to announce at this time"  when Briefs inquired as to whether he had chosen a vice chair to replace Gabby Saucedo-Mercer- who was elected as the AZGOP secretary, and whether he had appointed his Executive Director. Speculation has it he will appoint Matthew Kenney, a former staffer for Sen John McCain and Gov Doug Ducey.

Convention Attendees Say Gabby Saucedo-Mercer pulled no punches in her candidacy speech on Saturday. Seems she told the state committeemen that during her tenure as vice chair she wasn’t called to headquarters for a board meeting - not even once.

Congrats to Congressman Paul Gosar on being elected Chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus. Gosar said: “I am honored to have earned the confidence of my colleagues to lead the Western Caucus. Having lived in the West all my life, I’m very familiar with the pertinent regional issues. Westerners desperately need allies in Congress that fight on their behalf. The Western Caucus deserves bold leadership that empowers its members to take real action and enact practical solutions. The future is bright for Western communities. I can’t wait to work with the outstanding members of this Caucus so we can deliver meaningful results for Americans throughout the country.”

Last night Chairman Jonathan Lines of the Arizona Republican Party issued this statement on President Donald Trump’s nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court: “Tonight, President Trump fulfilled one of his biggest campaign promises to the American people by selecting Neil Gorsuch, a mainstream conservative to serve on the United States Supreme Court. Judge Gorsuch is an outstanding choice. While there is no replacing Justice Antonin Scalia, I am proud that President Trump has chosen a distinguished jurist who will be another strict constructionist on the Court. I am also very proud that our two United States Senators are enthusiastically supporting Judge Gorsuch. I urge his swift confirmation by the Senate."

Yavapai GOP Chair Mark Sensmeier: "I am absolutely thrilled with President Trump's selection of Neil Gorsuch to the United States Supreme Court. Gorsuch is a reasonable, learned, and solid scholar and jurist in the constructionist mold of Justice Antonin Scalia. His fairness and intellect is unassailable, as demonstrated by the U.S. Senate's voice vote confirmation of him for the federal bench in 2006. I am pleased to hear that Arizona's U.S. Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake are 100% behind Gorsuch's selection. I trust that the Senate will confirm him fully and swiftly."

Gary Ripley: Excellent And Thanks For Saying It: Excellent, I would only add the party leadership and elected politicians actively working against the desires of the voters and even scolding us for having the desires. Editor’s Note: Ripley refers to Boe James 1-31-17-briefs commentary:… “Somehow this name calling between and within the Republican Party of Maricopa County and the State of Arizona and within the various LDs (especially LD 23) has got to stop.  AND SOON or we will go down in flames next election.  We lost to County-wide offices this last election.  We can't afford to lose 2 state wide offices or one Senate seat; and we need to work together hold, and hopefully gain, US House seats.” Editor’s Note: Name calling hasn’t divided the party as much as the systematic cleansing of hard working conservative members from leadership ranks and other divisive, underhanded shenanigans that have been occurring the past five or six years.” - ft

MCRC 2 VC Yvonne Cahill: Disappointed in the cartoon of Jonathon Lines. “ADI: McCain-Gets-New-Dummy - "While Senator John McCain kept control of the Party through the election of new AZGOP Chair Jonathan Lines, his opposition; the grassroots managed to elect candidates to leadership positions.” Who submitted it? It is not a way to build unity in our party and if the person who submitted it is not willing to put their name on it, I think it should not be published but it is your newsletter so I guess you publish what you wish. I was accused of being a McCain person also, even though I worked on a competitor to McCain’s campaign for an entire year. So false accusations do happen and I am disappointed to see that you publish things like you have today. Editor’s Note: The cartoon McCain Gets A New Dummy: Sunday’s Comic was originally published Jan 29, 2017 by the Arizona Daily Independent aka ADI of Oro Valley, AZ. The cartoonist label is clearly visible in the lower right hand corner of the cartoon. Like it or not, politicians are frequently the topic of a cartoonist’s wit; it comes with the territory. Several weeks ago Lines told Briefs he comes from a political family that settled in Yuma, so I’m sure Lines understands - as an elected official - he now lives in a glass house. Although Lines denies he is McCain’s man, the cartoon is reflective of the feelings of many Arizona Republican activists.- ft

LD13 PC Scott Powelson: Please watch this video pretext for the North American Union DVD/ISO It explains what the NAU and the SPP are. The forward movement on I-11 hi-way and others have convinced me that this is still in the works even though it has gone underground and out of the public realm. The “NAFTA” hi-way system is still underway which means it is still being worked on just not under public eyes. The original government website is not in operation any more so much of the information is not so easy to get now.

Coconino County Republican Committee Chairman Jeff Oravits reports that 10 of the 12 CCRC precinct committeeman were present at the AZGOP Statutory meeting in Phoenix. Those in attendance include First Vice Chair Joy Staveley, carrying two proxies for those who could not attend, Second Vice Chair Julie Richie, Third Vice Chair Dennis Lavin, Lori Hull, Past Chair and current Flagstaff Republicans Women’s President Joan Harris and her husband Steven Harris, Gaylord Staveley, Glenda Odegaard and Councilman Charlie Odegaard.

Rep. Mark Finchem’s has succeeded in getting the “Appeal to Heaven” flag on display at the Arizona State Capitol. It is flown under the spear point pole top of a flag officers encampment.

Coconino County Republicans will meet for lunch Wed., Feb 1 at The Place, 22 S Milton Road to discuss call to action items including the need to lobby the Flagstaff City Council to honor the nearly 9,000 people that singed the petition to amend Prop 414, Flagstaff’s upcoming $15 minimum wage. Chairman Jeff Oravits will also give updates on current events.

The Goldwater Institute published a new report on how states can restore free speech at public universities and colleges. The institute has prepared model legislation to eliminate restrictive “free speech zones” and to impose fines on college administrators who turn away invited public speakers or illegally interfere with the free-speech rights of students and professors. According to CEO Darcy Olsen, the Wall Street Journal has a great summary of their report and model legislation co-authored by Stanley Kurtz of the Ethics & Public Policy Center.  click here.

Executive-branch officials do not have their own power. They are delegated by the president to execute his power. If they object to the president’s policies, their choice is clear: salute and enforce the president’s directives, or honorably resign. There is no third way. No one knows this better than high-ranking officials of the Department of Justice. That is why President Trump was right to fire Acting Attorney General Sally Yates…”

It’s so easy to be a heroine when you’re not appointed by this president and when you’re on the other side.” He said it would have been better if Yates had done a more nuanced analysis of what parts of the ban are constitutional and what parts aren’t, because “by lumping all of them together, she has made a political decision rather than a legal one.”

Trump Stand Against Terrorism Exposes Dangerous Shadow Government: The media frenzy and anarchist globalist visceral over President Donald Trump’s executive orders limiting immigration, visas, and refugees from nations of known terrorist activities exposed something far more dangerous to the American Republic than the rights of non-citizens and illegal immigrants—the emergence of a possible Marxist Islamist shadow government. The former “president” issued a divisive, seditious, and inflammatory statement against Trump’s orders and his mouthpiece, the Huffington Post, printed it. Trump even had to fire acting Attorney General, Sally Yates a holdover from the previous “president” until Trump’s Attorney General is approved, for refusing to legally defend his executive orders...Read the rest of The Daily Jot here.

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel released the following statement supporting Neil Gorsuch's nomination to the Supreme Court: “Neil Gorsuch is a mainstream conservative choice who fulfills President Trump’s promise to the American people to appoint a justice who represents their views. In this past presidential election, the American people gave their support to President Trump in large part because he vowed to appoint a justice in the mold of the great Justice Scalia. Neil Gorsuch's sterling track record of faithfully interpreting the Constitution, protecting individual rights, and ensuring limited government is complemented by his discerning approach to every case and a high personal integrity. Democrats who plan on obstructing President Trump’s choice are only scheming to deprive the American people of their rightful voice on the nation’s highest court. Americans are clearly in support of this thoughtful and qualified choice, and it’s time for Democrats to honor the will of the people so the Supreme Court can once again have nine justices.”

CONGRESSIONAL STATEMENTS/ACTION

300 word limit policy. If statements exceed the limit, it will be edited

This week, Chairman Paul A. Gosar and members of the Congressional Western Caucus will introduce 10 bills to overturn several last minute regulations from the Obama Administration utilizing the Congressional Review Act (CRA). The CRA utilizes an expedited legislative process that requires a simple majority in both the House and Senate as well as a signature by the President in order to nullify an entire regulation.

The following bills will be introduced in the coming days:

1. CRA bill that blocks the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Venting and Flaring Rule by Natural Resources Committee Chairman Rob Bishop (UT-01)

2. CRA bill that blocks the Office of Surface Mining’s (OSM) Stream Protection Rule (SPR) by Reps. David B. McKinley P.E. (WV-01), Bill Johnson (OH-06) and Evan Jenkins (WV-03)

3. CRA bill that blocks the BLM’s Planning 2.0 Rule by Rep. Liz Cheney (WY-At Large)

4. CRA bill that blocks the US Fish and Wildlife Service’s (FWS) Oil and Gas Refuge Rule by Rep. Kevin Cramer (ND-At Large)

5. CRA bill that blocks the BLM’s Onshore Order 3 Rule by Chairman Emeritus Rep. Steve Pearce (NM-02)

6. CRA bill that blocks the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Accidental Release Prevention Requirements: Risk Management Programs under the Clean Air Act Rule (RMP rule) by Rep. Markwayne Mullin (OK-02)

7. CRA bill that blocks the FWS Compensatory Mitigation Policy by Rep. Dan Newhouse (WA-04)

8. CRA bill that blocks the Arctic Drilling Rule by Rep. Don Young (AK-At Large)

9. CRA bill that blocks the ONRR’s Amendment to Civil Penalty Regulations by Rep. Chris Stewart (UT-02)

10. CRA bill that blocks the National Park Service’s (NPS) Oil and Gas Rule by Chairman Paul A. Gosar D.D.S and Rep. Diane Black (TN-06)

“After eight years of issuing onerous, costly and questionably constitutional rules, the other shoe is about to drop on the Obama Administration’s legacy of gross executive overreach. I am proud to work with my colleagues in the Western Caucus and other members across the nation to present a united front against the arrogance of top-down mandates burdening each and every district in the United States. Our work is cut out for us, but I am confident that Congress will work swiftly and determinedly with President Trump and his administration to roll back burdensome regulations and red tape inherited from the previous administration,” said Gosar.

Congressman Andy Biggs: “President Donald Trump’s nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court is a welcome relief to Americans who honor and cherish the original intent of the U.S. Constitution. President Trump promised the American people that he would nominate a justice in the mold of the late-Justice Scalia, and I have every confidence that Judge Gorsuch will accurately interpret the Constitution, rather than legislate from the bench. Our country and Constitution are in jeopardy because of activist judges from many judicial jurisdictions. I have hope that Judge Gorsuch and all of President Trump’s nominees will uphold the Constitution, stand for life and religious freedom, and work to protect the 2nd and 10th Amendments. …

Congresswoman Martha McSally on the selection of Ronald D. Vitiello as Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol. Rep. McSally serves as the Chairwoman of the Border and Maritime Security Subcommittee. “Chief Vitiello brings vast experience at nearly all levels of theBorder Patrol. I look forward to working with him to build a smarter, more effective border strategy that increases our situational awareness and operational control and keeps our border residents safe.”

Congressman Andy Biggs has introduced H.R. 250 – the Judicial Administration and Improvement Act. H.R. 250 creates a new, Twelfth Circuit Court of Appeals. In doing so, Arizona, along with Alaska, Idaho, Montana, and Nevada, would be removed from the Ninth Federal Circuit Court and into the Twelfth. Congressman Biggs issued the following statement: “H.R. 250 builds on the leadership of Governor Doug Ducey, Senator Jeff Flake, former Senator Jon Kyl, and former Congressman Matt Salmon, to free Arizona from the burdensome and undue influence of the 9th Circuit Court. These individuals have done fine work to move this legislation forward. As a promise to my constituents last year, I introduced this bill to protect Arizona from a federal circuit court that does not reflect the values nor laws of our state. The Ninth Circuit cannot handle the number of states currently entrapped within its jurisdiction, causing access to justice to be delayed. Worse still, the Ninth Circuit has the highest reversal rate in the country, topping 75 percent. There is tremendous support for this legislation, and I will work to ensure its passage.” In the 114th Congress, Congressman Matt Salmon introduced this bill in the House of Representatives along with a companion bill in the Senate, sponsored by Senator Jeff Flake.

CANDIDATE COMMENTARY

300 word limit. If statements exceeds the limit, it will be edited.

Sen Jeff Flake: When the voters of Arizona first elected me to the United States Senate, I made a commitment to fight for taxpayers like you in the U.S. Senate. During my time in the Senate, I fought wasteful government spending and worked to rein in the size and cost of the federal government. I have never forgotten my promise to Arizona taxpayers, and now I hope taxpayers like you will continue to stand with me in our race to 2018.The election cycle is just beginning and our campaign is looking to strong grassroots conservatives like you to once again stand with our principled conservative campaign. If we want to lay the foundation for our victory in the year ahead, we need to start working to secure our advantage now.
