The Yellow Sheet is reporting that Senate candidate Kelli Ward is pulling ahead of current Senator Jeff Flake 30% to 23% in the 2018 GOP primary prelims, according to a poll by Political Marketing International.
Scuttlebutt has it that some folks are urging State Treasurer Jeff DeWit to run against Sen Jeff Flake’s re-election bid. They think with President Donald Trump backing DeWit, Trumps Arizona Team COO, can take Flake out. Who would be the strongest candidate to put up against Flake in the primary? DeWit’s not talking, but it’s common knowledge that he met with senate candidate Kelli Ward to see if she would step aside if he decided to run. Obviously, if they both run, it will assure Flake’s win. Neither camp wants to see that. Ward told Briefs last night that she has the momentum and is moving forward with her campaign against Flake. Another factor that can’t be forgotten is Sen John McCain’s $$$ hanging in the background to support Flake. Rumors circulating recently that Congressmen Paul Gosar – one of the hardest working guys in DC - would take on Flake are false. - ft

A Recent Influx Of Snow and subsequent run-off is giving many Flagstaff area lakes a refill. During the past two years, water levels at Kaibab Lake near Williams had been far too low to stock fish. Thanks to recent heavy rains, the lake (pictured) is full and spilling. All lakes in the Flagstaff region are ice free. The Arizona Game and Fish Department will not be stocking all lakes, and the ones that will be stocked will not get fish until after March 1. See more about fishing in Arizona
Activist Frank Schmuck: Much appreciated for all you do for the conservative movement sweeping the nation.
Coconino County Republican Committee Chairman Jeff Oravits: The Flagstaff City Council voted 5-2 to not honor the will of thousands of Flagstaff voters who signed a petition to alter Flagstaff’s controversial minimum wage law set to go into effect July 1st. Their decision is only hastening an economic blunder that is just beginning to play out. 5 councilmembers, 4 of which have near ZERO business experience, have opted to tinker with Prop 414 themselves and have voted to amend the law in the coming weeks. Any amendment to the voter approved Prop 414 (Flagstaffs $15 minimum wage) will need an unlikely 6 Council votes to pass plus would surely face an uphill legal battle.
Prop 414 passed in November, 2016. When it goes into effect July 1st of this year it is set to skyrocket the minimum wage to $12per hour. A near 50% increase in only a 7 month period! Flagstaff will have one of the highest minimum wages in the nation, higher than NYC. Businesses are already closing, not to mention the lost investment from businesses outside Flagstaff plus a coming disinvestment from within. This is just the beginning.
The anti-growth, anti-business devotees of the Flagstaff City Council have sent a clear message: Flagstaff is closed for business. They have succeeded in building an "economic wall" around Flagstaff. It’s truly a sad day for many Flagstaff businesses and families. The five who voted against this special election (Mayor Evans, Councilmembers Barotz, McCarthy, Putzova and Whelan) have done a great disservice to Flagstaff’s economy. The ripple effect of their decision will be felt for years to come.
People around the nation and state were watching Flagstaff and unfortunately the decision was up to economic theoreticians with little real experience. Surely many Flagstaff businesses and families are doing some serious thinking about their future in Flagstaff. It is imperative that we work to contain this extreme ideological agenda and not allow it to spread to other communities throughout Arizona. We have a lot of work to do and it will take all of us to stop this kind of insanity before it spreads. Contact Oravits at FlagstaffGOP@icloud.com

Congresswoman Martha McSally urged President Trump to restore online access to thousands of reports published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The reports, which were previously available on the USDA’s website, detail animal welfare inspection results for roughly 9,000 licensed animal facilities, including dog and cat breeding facilities, laboratories, zoos, circuses, airlines, and Tennessee walking horse venues. The USDA removed the reports from its website on Friday, February 3. The letter was signed by 101 bipartisan House members.“We should be increasing government transparency, not diminishing it and shielding those cited for violations of these key animal welfare laws,” the lawmakers said. “We hope you will immediately restore what was removed from USDA’s website regarding the (Animal Welfare Act) and (Horse Protection Act), and resume posting inspection reports, annual reports, and other animal welfare related documents so that the public can access them in an efficient and timely way.” letter HERE
Sen Jeff Flake: We currently have eight justices serving on the U.S. Supreme Court. President Trump has nominated an extremely qualified nominee, Judge Neil Gorsuch, to the Supreme Court. Judge Gorsuch has spent his entire career fighting to uphold our founding principles and defend our Constitution. Unfortunately Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and many other Senate Democrats see this as another opportunity for obstruction and gridlock. These obstructionist Democrats have vowed to do everything they can to block Judge Gorsuch's confirmation to the Supreme Court. We cannot let these Democrats win. Your support is so important to our conservative cause. With your help, we will confirm Justice Gorsuch as the ninth justice on the Supreme Court.

Sen candidate Kelli Ward: If there’s one thing that all true conservatives agree on, it’s: we must repeal Obamacare. But not “Never Trumper” Jeff Flake. Yesterday, he told his favorite people in Washington -- the media -- that repeal of Obama’s disastrous big government power grab is, quote, “not realistic.” What’s actually “not realistic” is expecting fake “conservative” centrists like Jeff Flake to keep their promises to Republican voters. The true conservatives -- like Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee -- are pushing to move quickly on repealing Obamacare, because that’s what voters expect. Both Senate Republicans and President Trump campaigned on “repeal and replace.” Now it’s time for promises to be kept. But Jeff Fake never had any intention of repealing Obamacare and putting doctors and patients back in control. Fake conservatives like him are part of the problem in Washington, and it’s time we drained the swamp. If you agree that ObamaCare is a disaster for patients, doctors, and taxpayers, and must be fully repealed in favor of free market solutions, then now is the time to stand up and be counted. secure.kelliward It’s clear that a Republican Senate doesn’t mean much without true conservative Senators. That’s why I need your help -- to get to Washington and shake up the Establishment before it’s too late.

Scottsdale City Councilwoman Virginia Korte: Last week we took the first significant step in solving our city’s infrastructure issues. Mayor Lane appointed me and Councilmembers Guy Phillips and David Smith to a new Council Capital Improvement Project Subcommittee. The three us will be officially confirmed at the Council meeting on Tues, Feb 21. Recently, the city staff presented more than 40 capital improvement projects costing an estimated $84 million. That is a lot of money, and, quite candidly, it is going to be a challenge finding the funding for those projects. And this is the “tip” of the proverbial iceberg with our growing needs for reinvestment in the city’s infrastructure. It will take a combination of several different options to pay for all the projects over time. That is why Mayor Lane believed it would be wise to establish a three-person subcommittee to begin working on the issue. As I have mentioned in previous emails, my number one priority this year is to begin addressing our infrastructure issues. I thank Mayor Lane for not only having the foresight to create the subcommittee, but also appointing me to serve on it. I am looking forward to working with Councilmen Phillips and Smith on what I am sure will have a productive outcome. I invite you to give me your thoughts about capital improvement projects at Korte@KorteScottsdale.com
